Latest Burst News
Below is our complete Burst news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Guitarist Jonas Rydberg of the recently disbanded band Burst has new joined a new project titled Faster Katt. Sample Faster Katt tracks can be heard at the band's MySpace page. Faster Katt also issued the following statement about the band's formation:
"About six months ago, the signs for putting together a full line-up for Faster Katt and make a 'real band' out of it, were finally auspicious. Since our first recording, made in 2005, me and Putte often discussed this when we were drinking, but for some strange reason nothing happened.. Until now, that is! Or, as I said, about six months ago, when the good old jolly band BURST decided to throw in the towel and left our we-go-way-back-friend and evil genius Jonas Rydberg free of duties. Cunning as we are, we quickly enticed him to pick up an axe of ravaging rawk-storms and join forces with us! A couple of months later, Mattias Engström, my dear partner and master of prog-metal-might from MEMFIS, finally managed to escape the Mordor of Wermland, from which we all hail, to live in Gothenburg with us. Hence, he had no choice but to strap on his awesome-to-death Thunderbird and team up.
"So, I had some 'new' material which we arranged and recorded at a pace way faster than katt! The creative skills and the diabolic devotion of our new members was exactly the fix needed to turn this corpse into a zombie again! After some rehearsing we set off to our friend, and drum-sound ninja, Krille's home Evil Grill, to get the drums on tape. After this we recorded the bass-guitars and vocals at home. Very comfortable, non-stressful and cheap. Big thanks to Peter for letting us use your wardrobe, and for McGyvering a golfbag into a microphone-stand. More...
Sweden's Burst have issued the following statement about their final show before disbanding on December 18th:
"Hey friends, For whom the bell tolls, as Metallica (and indeed Ernest Hemingway) would say. Friday Decmber 18, the night of our Grand Finale/Goodbye gig at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg, is drawing nearer, and we'd like to take this chance to reveal some sweet shit that will go down. Tix are flying out the door, so stock up asap! You can go here, or maybe here.
"What's going down? There will be a bunch of cool give aways, including the rare, out of print CDEP 'In Coveting Ways' to the first 100 through the door! The entire show will be filmed by for a potential DVD release.
"What will we play? I know it sounds pretentious, but see this as 'An evening with Burst':
- two sets, the first being latest album Lazarus Bird, from start to finish, which means that we will be playing songs like Momentum and City Cloaked, which we never played live before.
-After a break, we'll play the second set, comprised of fan favorites as well as songs we rarely or never played live. It will be an unashamedly awesome mix of old, new-ish and new Burst memories! More...
Sweden's Burst have announced they are officially disbanding after their final tour date in Gothenburg on December 18th. Burst is also offering fan-filmed footage of their final U.S. show in Chicago as a free download. The video can be downloaded at this location.
When shows have similar-sounding bands on the bill, it’s hard to write a good show report. When the bands sound very different from each other, the experience becomes very different. Gojira brought along scary psychedelics Zoroaster and hard-to-classify Burst. The show was diverse but very heavy and complex. While Gojira is on tour with Metallica, they are taking the time on off-days to play in the cities that the big show is missing. Any one who goes to see Gojira’s headline show will be very glad that the band made the decision to fill in the gaps. More...
Lazarus A.D. has announced the following show in Milwaukee, WI with Gojira, Burst and Zoroaster:
"We have a warm up show at the Rave on October 7th. We are direct support for Gojira, and if you haven't heard they are touring with Metallica right now. We will be selling tickets for $12, which is cheaper than the door! Message us for tickets and info, and let's make this a kickass show! We will be unveiling some new material for you before we head off to Japan for Loud Park!"
Lazarus A.D. just premiered the new video for "Revolution," off the latest album, "The Onslaught.." Check out the video at www.ultimate-guitar.tv
Sweden's Burst, who are currently on their farewell U.S. tour before disbanding, have issued the following announcement about canceling several tour dates due to mechanical issues:
"So....this tour could've started better....
"We left Friday's cool but by technial difficulties plagued gig at the Planet Caravan fest in high spirits, only to find that our coach bus had broken down. Ringo, bus drive extraordinaire (he drove fucking Britney Spears for God's sake), went crazy with the phone and managed to get a mechanic down to the bus in the morning. The mechanic, however, was a big boned-fellow, and since his hands were two fat to reach into the engine, that didn't work. He tried getting his retard son to come down and fix it (apparebntly he had thinner hands/arms), but he was on probation, so that didn't work. Thus, we were stuck in the middle of the NC mountains (beautiful country though), forced to cancel the Richmond, VA show. Frustrating, to say the least. We're in this country to play music, not to sit in a bus and drink Milwaukee Best and look at the rain. Got to see Yob and Astra on the second day of the Planet Caravan fest though. Awesome.
"Third day of tour. Bus still unfixed. Mechanic at church. Ringo, the hero, has been on the phone to every bus driver and 80's rock hero in the country (he knows them all; Jackyl, Cheap Trick, Corabi...etc) to get us a new bus, but since we are faaaaar away from any tour circuit, getting a new bus has been a bitch. The latest news is that we will get a bus at 10 o'clock tonight...thus missing the Allentown, PA show all the same. DAMN IT!
"Very sorry to all, we are so frustrated about this jinxed start of the tour. We WILL however, make the Brooklyn show and all following shows."
As was previously reported, Sweden's Burst plans to breakup after their upcoming U.S. tour. The band issued the following statement about a final farewell show in Sweden:
"First, we would like to send you all humble gratitude and reverence for all the response about our hiatus/break-up/whatever. I guess you don’t realize how many people derive meaning from what you do until you die (are we right, Kurt Cobain?). .... Aaaanyways, here be news:
"FINAL GIG: As we previously stated, we wanna go out with a big ass fanfare of a goodbye show in Sweden. The date has been set to December 18, and the venue will be Sticky Fingers in Burst home base Gothenburg, Sweden. And yeah, this really WILL be a special occasion:
"Since this is our last concert, we’d figured we’d do something awesome. Thus, the night will be divided into two sets. For the first part we will perform our last album Lazarus Bird in its entirety. Awesome for us, awesome hopefully for you too. More...

Sweden's Burst has issued the following announcement about choosing to disband after their upcoming U.S. tour:
"We are glad to announce that Burst will embark on our first US tour immediately following our appearance at the intriguing Planet Caravan festival in Asheton, NC on september 19. The tour will go through to October 10. Half the tour Burst and opener Zoroaster will be gigging with the draconian French metal philosophers Gojira on their Metallica off-dates, half the tour we’ll do our own shows with Zoroaster.
"At the same time, we’d like to announce that our first US tour will also be our last. Following a band meeting at the end of June, we have decided that it is time to let Burst sleep.
"We will honor our commitments, play the planned No Budget fest in Larissa, Greece as well as the US tour, and a possible best-of show in Sweden in late fall. But after that and for the foreseeable future, Burst will lay down its arms. Whether it is definite or indefinite, we can’t say. Thus, in accordance with modern internet heavy metal news site lingo, we’ll call it an 'indefinite hiatus.' More...
