The following article was originally posted over at MTV.com:
New England metalcore champs ALL THAT REMAINS have become one of the standout acts on this summer's Ozzfest, decimating one sun-soaked crowd after another and delivering ferocious sets that obviously leave a lasting impression with the audiences at each stop on the tour.
The proof's in the pudding, as they say. ALL THAT REMAINS' latest, crushing LP, The Fall of Ideals, opened at #75 on Billboard's album sales chart two weeks ago, selling close to 13,000 copies its first week in stores. The following week, the disc took a bit of a slide, falling to #139 with around 6,000 units sold. The Fall of Ideals is on pace to outsell the band's previous offering, This Darkened Heart, which racked up first-week sales of 1,050 copies when it was released two years ago. The album failed to chart but has gone on to sell about 62,000 copies.
For frontman Phil Labonte, the album's got the potential to sell a lot more — and that's where the band's second-stage turn on this year's Ozzfest comes in.
"We did Sounds of the Underground last year, but still, there's a huge crowd of people out here who ... this is going to be the only show they go to all year," he said. "It's such a huge deal, and there's a huge percentage of people here who have never even heard of us, so it's a huge opportunity and we're coming in with a really solid foundation and really good groundwork from last year. Our last album sold 60,000-something copies without Ozzfest. So we're hoping this record does the same or more. With the help of tours like Ozzfest, maybe we'll do that."
Some of the material on The Fall of Ideals spotlights the band at its most brutal — with tons of double-bass and pummeling blast beats. But at the same time, the LP's also ALL THAT REMAINS' most accessible outing to date, thanks to Labonte's vocals, which, in keeping with the current trend, come across as much cleaner.
"There are more clean vocals on the record, but there's more vocal variety overall," he argued. "I do way more of the really guttural death-metal stuff than I've ever done. The song 'The Weak Willed' is the heaviest thing we've ever done — it's a death-metal song. But there's more clean singing on this one because I've gotten better at that. We're not that band that's like, 'Oh, here's a formula — let's go ahead and do it and write all our songs this way.' We've always been an extreme band, and certainly not something you could consider anything less than a metal band."
Of course, being on the Ozzfest — which wraps up August 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida — can obviously lead to bigger and better things for a band. And it seems the tour's already started paying off for ALL THAT REMAINS. In September, they'll head out with DRAGONFORCE and HORSE THE BAND for a tour that's expected to kick off September 8 in Los Angeles. Just four dates for the trek have been announced, including September 9 in San Francisco, September 23 in Detroit and September 24 in Toronto. More dates will be unveiled in the coming weeks. Labonte said the band also plans on setting out on a headlining run this winter.
"We want to stay on the road as long as we can, because that's how you make fans and that's how you become successful as a band," he explained. "Being on Ozzfest is pretty humbling, because you have so many huge bands that are gigantic now that got their start on the second stage — KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SHADOWS FALL, HATEBREED. It's a huge thing to be a part of it, and it's a huge thing to be able to say, 'Hey, we were on Ozzfest.' I couldn't be any happier."
DRAGONFORCE will be embarking on a headlining US tour this September with ALL THAT REMAINS and HORSE THE BAND. Confirmed dates so far are as follows:
September 8 - Los Angeles, CA @ Wiltern Theatre
September 9 - San Francisco, CA @ The Warfield
September 23 - Detroit, MI @ Harpo's
Massachusetts-based metal act ALL THAT REMAINS has officially scanned almost 13,000 copies of the bands latest release, ˜The Fall of Ideals, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Strong first week sales also result in the album catapulting to a # 75 debut on the Billboard Top 200 charts. The success of the The Fall of Ideals marks the most strongest first week ever for a Prosthetic Records band. The album is a joint release between Prosthetic and Razor & Tie. Prosthetic is the Los Angeles-based label which began in 1997 and was the launching pad for international sensations LAMB OF GOD. It is currently enjoying success with upstarts THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD.
Currently touring North America as part of Ozzfest 2006, ALL THAT REMAINS will continue touring throughout the summer and fall to support the bands new release, having already stormed Europe as part of Sounds of The Underground earlier this year. "The Fall of Ideals" was recorded with producer Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage). The album marks the recorded debuts of new bassist Jeanne Sagan and drummer Shannon Lucas. The result is an album that Revolver magazine dubs, "Both brutal and beautiful. Scary good."

ALL THAT REMAINS singer Phil Labonte checked in from this year's Ozzfest tour, where the band are performing on the second stage all summer long.
Said Labonte: "So yesterday was our first Ozzfest show. It seemed to me that Washington has more than a few ATR fans and they were out early and in force yesterday!!! What a great time! We have a few bugs to work out, but if the first show is any sign of what we can expect from Ozzfest crowds, it's gonna be an amazing summer!! With the release date for [the new ALL THAT REMAINS album] 'The Fall of Ideals' just over a week away, people are already hollering to hear 'This Calling', which is humbling in a way I can hardly describe. So ATR fans come on out to the shows. I know I'll be walking around and hanging out all summer! Just 'cause I need a tan and hanging with ATR fans is sweet. Come say hello!!!"
With a July 11 street date, "The Fall of Ideals" is ALL THAT REMAINS' third album and the follow-up to 2004's critically-acclaimed "This Darkened Heart". Recorded with producer Adam Dutkiewicz (KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) and engineer Peter Wichers (ex-SOILWORK) at Zing Studios in Massachusetts in March, the new album features art by renowned artist Travis Smith (ICED EARTH, OPETH).
Massachusetts ALL THAT REMAINS has unveiled the debut video from the bands forthcoming album, The Fall of Ideals. The video for the albums lead track, This Calling, was directed by Frankie Nasso (Mudvayne, Hatebreed) of Raging Nations films and is online here.
Shot at the end of May in the now-abandoned Hancock Naval Base in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, the videos concept revolves around the "calling" itself being represented by the voice of hope breaking free from a tainted and twisted state of mind. More...

It comes as little surprise that Avenged Sevenfold have been officially confirmed as the mystery band on the main stage for Ozzfest 2006. The real surprise announcement is that power metal band Dragonforce, recently signed to Roadrunner Records in North America and rumored to be joining Gigantour 2006, has been added as the main stage opener as well.
Ozzy Osbourne is now slated to headline the second stage on three dates (replacing some dates that he was previously thought to be headlining the main stage):
July 8 - San Bernardino, CA's Hyundai Pavilion of Glen Helen
July 11 - San Antonio, TX at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
July 22 - East Troy, WI at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre
OZZY says, "After 10 years of headlining Ozzfest's main-stage I think it's time for a change. I haven't had a chance to play this close to an audience in years and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it."
Also announced is that Ozzfest emcee Big Dave and professional Ozzfest party guy, Eddie, have begun their nationwide search visiting 19 of the festival's 26 cities to find the first-ever Miss Ozzfest. The duo will be accepting entries and taking photographs of Miss Ozzfest candidates in each city. Throughout the summer the Ozzfest fans can vote for your favorites at Ozzfest.com. All entries collected from Big Dave and Eddie will be posted for you to vote on. The top three in each city will be awarded FREE tickets to the show in their city, where at some point during the evening's festivities, the three contestants will be presented on stage to the fans who will vote on a winner. Photos of each winning contestant, including the top vote getters from Raleigh and West Palm Beach, will be posted once again on Ozzfest.com, where fans can pick their Miss Ozzfest 2006. Final voting will be held at Ozzfest.com on August 7 and 8. The winning beauty will be awarded the grand prize and receive round trip airfare and accommodations for her and a guest to attend the year's final show August 13 in West Palm Beach where she'll be crowned Miss Ozzfest 2006.

The band, which has toured with System of a Down, released their debut, Lynch the Weirdo, on System frontman Serj Tankian's Serjical Strike label in 2004. The album was produced by System guitarist Daron Malakian. This year's Ozzfest begins June 29 in Auburn, Washington, and will run through August 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

All That Remains has revealed the artwork and the track listing for the band's upcoming album, 'The Fall of Ideals.' Travis Smith (Opeth, Iced Earth, Soilwork) developed the record's artwork, and will hit store shelves July 11, 2006, while All That Remains will be in the midst of playing stages across the US as part of Ozzfest 2006. You can check out the artwork for 'The Fall of Ideals' here.
"I have been a fan of Travis' work for a while and I didn't even know it," vocalist Phil Labonte says. "His work with Soilwork and Sinai Beach really struck me, so the label put us in touch and we hit it off, which was really cool. We had gone through a bunch of ideas when he sent over the basics and beginning of what would become the cover. After a few back and forths with colors and placement stuff, we have come up with what I feel is a really striking piece of art. I hope it hits others as it did me."
'The Fall of Ideals' is the highly-anticipated follow-up to 2004's 'This Darkened Heart.' Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) is mixing the record, and manned the helm for production with Pete Wichers (ex-Soilwork) also lending a hand back in March at Zing Studios. Before heading across the country on Ozzfest 2006, All That Remains will head to Europe as part of the Sounds of the Underground 2006 European tour in May.

Last year marked the inaugural Sounds of the Underground tour, which saw 17 of the best and most brutal metal acts around traverse the U.S. and Canada in what proved to be a very successful alternative to the more commercial Ozzfest. The tour hit the parking lot of the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ on July 2nd, 2005, and with it came almost 5000 fans. Metal bands like A Life Once Once Lost and Strapping Young Lad hammered out their sets alongside hardcore acts like Madball and Throwdown in the sweltering 95+ degree midday heat. As the sun began to set, stalwarts like Chimaira, Poison the Well and From Autumn to Ashes played well into the darkness. All of the passion and power of that day is captured in Sounds of the Underground Live: Vol. 1, which will hit streets on June 20th.
DRT Entertainment will be releasing the DVD which documents the day's festivities, complete with performances from 16 of the 17 artists who participated in the tour. Along with over 90 minutes of performance footage, the DVD also features vignettes on every band on the tour, along with a host of hilarious 'guest interview' segments from members of GWAR, Every Time I Die and Throwdown. The DVD was filmed by Doug Spangenberg of Highroller Studios (Lamb of God's Killadelphia).
Featuring live performances from:
All That Remains
A Life Once Lost
High on Fire
Strapping Young Lad
Every Time I Die
Poison the Well
From Autumn to Ashes
Lamb of God
All That Remains will dub the band's upcoming album 'The Fall of Ideals.' The Springfield, Mass.-based band is in the studio with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) and Peter Wichers (ex-Soilwork) recording songs that will appear on the album, the follow-up to 2004's 'This Darkened Heart.' The record is scheduled for a July 11 release and will feature art from renowned artist Travis Smith (Opeth, Iced Earth). The band has set up an in-studio photo blog to keep fans up to date on the progress of the new record.
Coinciding with the release date, the band will make its first appearance on the illustrious Ozzfest tour throughout the United States in July and August. “You can’t be a metal band and not be psyched to be on Ozzfest," vocalist Phil Labonte said. The band will also again return overseas for the 2006 edition of Sounds of the Underground Europe, having toured the US for last year's edition of Sounds of the Underground.

All That Remains drummer Shannon Lucas has posted the following update on the band's website:
"Sorry its been so long since the last update. We've been hard at work in the studio finishing up our new record that should drop around around July. We entered Zing studios in Ma. on March 06 with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) and Peter Witchers (ex-Soilwork) to record our third release on Prosthetic Records. So someone hacked the message board on the site so its currently busted and we are gettting that taken care of soon and the online merch page is also down. Sorry! All this should be fixed soon and this boring website will be overhauled and updated. In the mean time Ive updated the tour date page so you will know what we are up to. Massachusetts' ALL THAT REMAINS have been tapped to play this summer's Sounds of The Underground Europe 2006 tour. Heading back to Europe, the band will join metal and hardcore giants Chimaira, Madball, Unearth, Terror, and Manntis. "We're pretty pumped...we're excited for this tour," frontman Phil Labonte said. "Chimaira’s great, we played a month with them back in the States in August. They're really sweet, fun dudes. That’s what you want, especially when you're traveling to a foreign country: good, kind people always looking to have some fun."
Labonte also admits that Europe brings a different flair to the All That Remains live show. "The Euorpean crowds are a little different [from US crowds]," he continued. "The past two times we've been there, with Killswitch Engage and Trivim, the kids, on average, seem to get a little more excited about shows, so it's kind of refreshing."
All That Remains is currently recording the follow-up to 2004's 'This Darkened Heart' with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) and Peter Wichers (ex-Soilwork) at Zing Studios, and the Sounds of the Underground Europe tour are set to be the first live dates for the band upon completion of recording.

Massachusetts' All That Remains has entered Zing Studios to begin tracking music that will become the follow-up to 2004's 'This Darkened Heart.' Scheduled to stay in the studio into the early part of April, the band will be laying down 12 songs, including "This Calling," a song the band debuted on its recent tour alongside Arch Enemy, and an updated take on "Follow," a track from the band's debut record, 'Behind Silence and Solitude.'
"We’re now at the point where we're the band I always wanted to us to be," Vocalist Phil Labonte says. "Musically, we’re capable of doing what I originally wanted to do. As musicians, we can all live up to that, so this will be like a fresh look at that older material. It’s a cool chance to make right some stuff after it didn't get the treatment it should have originally."
The forthcoming album will also mark the recording debut of two new All That Remains members, Shannon Lucas on drums, and Jeanne Sagan playing bass. "People aren’t even ready for what the next record is gonna have," Labonte continues. "People have a certain idea of what this band is and when they hear the new stuff with Shannon and Jeanne, it will completely and totally be a new approach to our same style. The riffs and sound are similar, but you take the song dynamics, and these layers we're doing, and it's now a completely different animal. It’s almost like a new way to look at an old friend."
Production for the yet-untitled album is being handled by Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage), who was responsible for the sound of the critically-lauded 'This Darkened Heart.' Peter Wichers (ex-Soilwork) will be in the studio with Dutkiewicz and the band to handle guitars production. Travis Smith (Iced Earth, Opeth) will handle the album's artwork. Meanwhile, Labonte has started a photo blog to keep fans updated through the recording process here.
