Darkest Era Releases New Video

Celtic metal band Darkest Era has released a new video for the track "Beyond the Grey Veil" on the same day that the band's new album, "Severance," receives its European release via Cruz Del Sur. The video can be seen below. Speaking about the new video, Guitarist Ade Mulgrew said:

"'Beyond the Grey Veil' is the thematic centerpiece of the album. All roads lead to that song in some ways and it's pretty representative of the kind of atmosphere we wanted to conjure up on 'Severance.' Even Costin Chioreanu based the album artwork on it. The video was directed by Angus Mitchell, an extremely talented guy who was instantly on the same page as us in terms of the aesthetic we wanted to achieve."

Darkest Era Posts Lyric Video

Northern Ireland's Darkest Era have released a lyric video for "Sorrow's Boundless Realm," the first track from the band's forthcoming new album "Severance" which is due for release on June 3rd (US) and June 13th (Europe) via Cruz Del Sur. Watch it below.

Guitarist Ade Mulgrew said: "It's quite a dark song and probably reflective of how some of us saw the world around us when this album was being written. There was a lot going on in the band at the time and it certainly came out in the music.

We also recorded it in the middle of winter against a backdrop that moved from being immensely beautiful on the rare occasions when the sun shined, to very bleak and desolate when the clouds rolled in. That definitely helped shape the vibe on this song. We're looking forward to letting people finally hear it."

Darkest Era Posts Album Cover and Tracklisting

Northern Ireland's Darkest Era have revealed the cover artwork and track listing for their forthcoming album "Severance," which is due for release on June 3rd (US) and June 13th (Europe) via Cruz Del Sur. The album was recorded at Data Recording Studios in Ballyheigue, Ireland and produced by Chris Fielding and Darkest Era. The artwork was created by Costin Chioreanu.

Guitarist Ade Mulgrew said: "We are really pleased with the artwork which totally captures the atmosphere of this album. Costin has a unique style and immediately got what we were looking for.

'Severance' was recorded during what was a pretty stormy time in the band and against the backdrop of some very atmospheric natural scenery in one of the remotest parts of the west of Ireland. I think all that certainly comes across in the music and we are looking forward to finally unleashing it this summer."

The track listing for "Severance" is:

1.Sorrow's Boundless Realm

3.The Serpent And The Shadow
4.Beyond The Grey Veil

6.The Scavenger
7.A Thousand Screaming Souls
8.Blood, Sand And Stone

Darkest Era Signs With Cruz Del Sur

Cruz Del Sur Music has announced a deal with former Metal Blade artists Darkest Era for the release of the band's new album, "Severance." Since their formation in 2005, Darkest Era have progressed their special and original 'Celtic Heavy Metal' formula, with epic compositions influenced by the darker side of Irish folklore as well as the classic, twin-guitar dueling.

"Severance" shows more of this perfectly balanced formula with a more reflective spirit than in the past, but maintaining the untouched energetic vibe that has been the main characteristic of the band to date.

Guitarist Ade Mulgrew commented: "We are excited to be working with Cruz Del Sur to finally get this beast uncaged. The label has put out some amazing records in recent years and we feel we are in very good company."

"Severance" will be released June 13th in Europe and June 3rd in North America on CD, vinyl and digital formats. More...

Darkest Era Premieres New Music Video

Ireland's Darkest Era has partnered up with BloodyDisgusting.com to debut a new video for "An Ancient Fire Burns." The song comes from the band's debut album, "The Last Caress of Light," which was highlighted in Decibel's Top 40 Extreme Albums of 2011. Watch "An Ancient Fire Burns" now here.

Comments guitarist Ade Mulgrew: "An Ancient Fire Burns is a song about primal instincts and desire; and in this video we used a narrative that we really hope will grip people. It's an old school buried-alive-in-coffin concept that compliments the themes in the song. We also shot the band's performance by torchlight in a 1000 year old monastery, once plundered by Vikings. It was a great setting and really adds to the atmosphere in the video."

Darkest Era also has the following upcoming shows with Alestorm and Claim the Throne: More...

Darkest Era Issues Studio Report

Guitarist Ade Mulgrew of Darkest Era has issued the following update from the recording studio:

"Here’s a very short update from Foel Studios in Wales where we are currently hard at work recording what will be our debut album. We’ve been here a few days now and everything is running very smoothly with Chris Fielding at the helm. The studio is well renowned for it's warm production and analogue facilities and has been used in the past by everyone from Porcupine Tree to Primordial, Hawkwind, Napalm Death, The Wildhearts, and many more.

"In total we will spend 2 weeks here putting everything we’ve got into trying to capture on record, the Celtic metal storm, that has become our sound over the past number of years. More updates to come."

Darkest Era Signs To Metal Blade

Metal Blade Records recently teamed up with Alan Averill 'Nemtheanga' of Primordial for distribution of his label Poison Tongue Records. U.K. act Darkest Era has now issued the following update about signing to the label:

"It is with great pleasure that we can finally announce we have signed a worldwide deal with Metal Blade records! We have been working closely with them over the past few months in settling a deal, aided by Alan Averill of Primordial in his new A&R role for Metal Blade. We are wasting no time and will be recording our debut album on the 26th August, with a release date to fall approximately on the turn of the new year.

"The only details I can give so far are that there will be 8 tracks of the epic, soaring, celtic laden melancholy that we've been developing over the past few years. There will be a few re-recordings from our EPs, and one entirely acoustic track. It's a big step for us but one which we feel has come at the ideal time; we are really ready to step onto the international stage and forge on with the passion and fire that has led us this far.

"We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us so far: our Irish fans who have been behind us since the Nemesis days; all our European fans and those further afield who bought our CD's, who sent us many messages of support and have championed us in their respective countries; and to those we have met on our travels, shared a beer with and sang a song with. We will almost certainly be touring widely in support of this next year. Germany, Greece, Italy, we shall return! The rest of you, prepare for a heathen invasion!"
