Iron Maiden And More Pay Tribute To Ronnie Dio

Like so many others in the hard rock and heavy metal community, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake and others have posted messages online paying their respects to heavy metal icon Ronnie James Dio, who sadly passed away yesterday morning in Los Angeles from stomach cancer. The tributes read as follows:

Iron Maiden: "It is with huge sadness we hear that Ronnie has lost his battle against stomach cancer, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Wendy and family at this terrible time. From his earlier years in Elf, Black Sabbath and Dio, right through to his most recent days fronting Heaven and Hell, Ronnie, time and again, proved his genius as a frontman, always giving his all to his fans and his music. Ronnie was not only an incredibly gifted singer but also a wonderfully warm, intelligent and generous person and this shone through both on and off stage leaving a positive mark on everyone he came into contact with. A longstanding friend of Maiden, we played many shows together over the years and we will all miss him greatly. The world has lost an irreplaceable talent and, first and foremost, one of the finest human beings you could ever wish to meet."

Whitesnake's David Coverdale: "So very sad to hear of Ronnie's passing... My thoughts, prayers and condolence to his family and friends." More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Video Marathon

Thoughts while watching a video marathon and wondering whether Rob Halford decided to put tattoos on his skull before or after he shaved his head…

Production meeting prior to making the Dio video “Holy Diver”: Okay, so we need an abandoned church, an active steel mill, and a very large sword. Behind the Music: The Dio video props department…

In Guns N Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” Axl is getting off a bus with a very large suitcase. In Whitesnake’s “Is This Love” video Tawny Kitaen packs four pieces of lingerie into a large suitcase. Anyone interested to know the contents (or what for fictional purposes is supposed to be contained in their luggage)? I’m going to go with Hit Parader and Circus magazines for Axl and a pair of Bret Michaels (Poison) jeans for Kitaen. This mystery is right there with what is inside the briefcase from Pulp Fiction...While on the subject of “Jungle”, is Duff ever going to bring back the Bill Walton seventies style headband? I believe I speak for many when I say: I hope so… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Vote Slash for Office

Slash (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver) released his new solo album this week that includes a song sung by Ozzy Osbourne, “Crucify The Dead” containing the lyrics: "A loaded gun jammed by a rose/the thorns are not around your head/your ego cut you til you bled". Slash is adamant that the song is not about ex-band mate Axl Rose saying, “Yes, there were some key lines in there that were very suggestive of my experience. No, this is just an overall picture of the issues.” Prediction: We are two years from Slash running for a political office… More...

Whitesnake Signs To Frontiers Records

Hard rockers Whitesnake have inked a record deal with Frontiers Records. David Coverdale and band are gearing up for their latest endeavour and have already started composing new material.

“We are off to a very good start, with the new songs taking positive shape. It feels good, fresh and exciting,” explains Coverdale. "As always, we want to take it to the next level. I feel that with the last album we achieved a strong Whitesnake ‘cocktail’ that comfortably embraced & mixed all the previous musical aspects & styles of the band’s history, while taking our identity a little further, all on one album."

Coverdale said the production team for the new album will most likely be the Brutal Brothers, or Los Bros Brutalos, who also handled the recording of "Good To Be Bad."

The Rockstar Ramblings: Cranium Hall of Fame

The past weekend Axl and the new Guns N Roses rolled into New York for a couple surprise shows. Going on late, and then partying for, as Axl was quoted, “As long as it takes”, it is clear Rose hasn’t changed much from the Use Your Illusion days. However, I was quite shocked to see Axl rocking the Fedora hat with the bandana, a bold move few can pull off. Add in the trademark oversized aviator shades and Axl becomes a first ballot inductee for the Cranium Accessories Hall of Fame, joining Bret Michaels and Hulk Hogan (first time ballot inductees in the bandana category)… More...

Whitesnake Begins Writing New Album

Hard rock legends Whitesnake has announced that they have begun work on a brand new studio album and as a result, believe it is unlikely that they will tour in 2010. A message from lead vocalist David Coverdale reads as follows:

"It is unlikely that Whitesnake will tour in 2010, as we have committed to writing & recording a new studio album & delighted to report we are working with an enthusiastic, highly respected record company, whom at this time I am reluctant to name, until they wish to make their own announcement...

"The album will feature all new, fresh material...

"We are off to a very good start, with the new songs taking very positive shape... At this time it feels like a solid, natural follow up to Good To Be Bad... but, taking it to the next level... More...

Judas Priest Posts U.S. Tour Report

British heavy metal legends Judas Priest has recently completed their headlining tour of the United States, during which they performed their classic album, "British Steel" from start to finish. A message from the band reads as follows:

"Just finished our US Tour - we're all going to take a short rest now before we head off to Japan!! The US shows were fabulous and the audience reaction was fantastic!! A big thank you to everyone who came to the shows - we had a great time - our only sorrow was that WHITESNAKE were not able to finish the last few shows with us due to David's very bad throat infection. He's getting better now so hopefully we'll all be working together again sometime in the not too distant future! See you next time round!!"

Whitesnake Drops Off Judas Priest Tour

Whitesnake has given an official announcement which has confirmed the rumours that they have dropped off of their current tour supporting Judas Priest. The message reads as follows:

"Unfortunately, last night at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, Denver, Whitesnake had to cut their performance short due to Mr Coverdale experiencing considerable pain in his vocal chords. He was immediately taken to a specialist for examination. The specialist discovered that David was suffering from severe vocal fold edema and a left vocal fold vascular lesion. He was instructed to cancel all performances for the next two weeks & then undergo a further examination. The doctors told us we were fortunate this was caught at a stage where no apparent permanent damage has been caused. We therefore regretfully have to announce that Whitesnake will not be appearing on the remainder of the U.S. tour with Judas Priest, Whitesnake sincerely regrets any disappointment this may cause."

Whitesnake Pulls Out Of Judas Priest Tour?

Whitesnake were forced to cut their set short last night after only four songs because singer David Coverdale is apparantly still not over a recent case of laryngitis. He gave a sincere apology to the crowd, stating "I'm sorry, I tried, I just can't do it."

Sources are now claiming that Whitesnake has pulled out of the tour with Judas Priest because of Coverdale's illness. Judas Priest and Pop Evil are expected to play longer sets to make up for Whitesnake's absence. Stay tuned for official word on the tour.

The Rockstar Ramblings: Rock Tavern Edition

This week announced the official open of Feelgood’s Rock Bar & Grill, the new venture from Vince Neil (Motley Crue), in Las Vegas. Neil is by no means the first rock star to open a bar. For many years Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, as well as others have made the connection of booze to rock fans. However, what makes this particular opening special is the expectations set for decadence in a true rock and roll atmosphere. With a sound system fit for a stadium you will find live rock (including a house band), privacy in the V-rooms, and hosting after-parties for the bands Whitesnake and Judas Priest (already booked) Neil is introducing the future of rock bars. The question is who will be the next to follow this trend? I’ve broken down some of the potential favorites: More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: A Big John Sighting

Poison will be featured in VH1’s new Live & Loud series. It is recommended girls wear the least amount of clothing as possible considering this could turn into a casting session for a potential Rock of Love 4 show….Steven Adler (Guns N Roses) recently commented on bands and stars he met while touring with his band Adler’s Appetite. When asked about his show in Minnesota (where Bret Michaels was playing) he commented, “I didn’t get to meet Bret Michaels, but did get to meet Big John, and he’s the main guy on that show Rock of Love”.
