Guitarist Andrew Marsh recently explained the origins of the new album and its title: “Finally the cat is out of the bag! Late last year, we entered the studio in secret to create our follow up to Hate, free of expectation and public pressure. What we came out with was a reaction to things going on around the world that crawl under our skin, that make us feel sick to be alive.
"Musically it is darker, faster and more technical than anything we've done in the past and it hits hard lyrically. We wrote about concerns of ours, real issues, hardships that people are facing around the world today. Of course it wouldn't be a Thy Art record if a lot of those affairs weren't rooted in religion somehow, and what better way to sum up the state of all things than by entitling our album - 'Holy War.'
"This is our war on racism, homophobia, child abuse, animal cruelty and all evil born of religious immunity, indoctrination, and ignorance. It is ultimately a push for secularism and humanism. Without it, we will be left in the hands of mad men.” More...
Following torn vocal chord issues that occurred with front man Frankie Palmeri back in February, Emmure is now cancelling upcoming tour dates. The band commetns:
"Due to unfortunate circumstances, we must cancel our upcoming EU/UK touring plans with Caliban, Thy Art Is Murder and Sworn In due to Frankie’s still yet to be determined healing process. He has severe acute and chronic reflux laryngitis and a weak (partially paralyzed) left vocal cord.
"We appreciate the support we received on the last tour with Suicide Silence in Frankie’s absence, at this time we are going to put our focus towards writing a new album while he recovers and we hope to see you all very soon."

Summer Slaughter came in to the same venue, Scoot Inn, as last year's stop off at Texas' capital city. The mid-July temperatures reached a scorching 99 degrees, which everyone from fans to bands did their best to stay hydrated (kudos to Scoot Inn for providing water). Keep in mind, this was still a good 5 degrees cooler than last year.
In regards to the lineup, Summer Slaughter 2014 featured artists expected from a death metal-based tour. This year the brutality of Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, Origin and Decrepit Birth replaced the shredding progression of Animals As Leaders and Periphery.
While death metal was at the forefront of this year's festivities, complex timing and long-winded solos were dispersed throughout the bill. Memories In Broken Glass, this year's battle of the bands winner, concentrated less on guitar solos as they did low tuned, (7 or 8-string guitar) jumping rhythms and samples. I'm sure they were happy to have played a showed promoted by Come And Take It Productions as they played in front of an impressive, jumping early crowd. More...
Audio engineers, take note -- Eyal Levi, producer at Audiohammer Studios (The Black Dahlia Murder, August Burns Red, Whitechapel), will return to the CreativeLive stage this week for back-to-back courses, "Metal Drum Programming" on July 24 and "Composing Metal Melodies and Harmonies" on July 25.
Levi will be joined in studio by special guests Andy Marsh from Thy Art Is Murder ("Metal Drum Programming") and Ryan Clark from Demon Hunter ("Composing Metal Melodies and Harmonies").
California's Suicide Silence has announced European headlining dates in support of the band's upcoming album, "You Can't Stop Me." The band will be supported by Australian label mates Thy Art Is Murder.
Commented Suicide Silence guitarist Mark Heylmun: "Europe!!! We love you so much, it's been too long since a proper European tour and we couldn't be happier to let you know it's happening soon. Come throw your horns up, bang your heads, or mosh your knickers off!! Whatever it is just let it happen. See you wonderful humans soon!!"
Added Thy Art Is Murder: "Can't wait to get back to Europe with Suicide Silence and eat some pork, man! Smoke loads of hash and play some breakdowns, cuz breakdowns are fucking brutal! In Bratislavia... and Budapest... and Britain...!" More...

Earlier this week Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps - infamous for leading his mostly family related congregation on offensive pickets at soldier's funerals - passed away. The Internet has been solidly split between those who want to celebrate his death and those who call for compassion to counteract the hatred.
Jumping into that ring is Thy Art Is Murder, which has a new t-shirt out now proudly proclaiming the demise of Mr. Phelps.
What do you think metalheads? Would you wear this, and is it metal or just in poor taste? More...

The latest round of additions to the continually-expanding lineup for 2014's installment of the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival has been disclosed, including Massachusetts' own '90s hardcore punk act, Sam Black Church.
Confirmed as one of the main headliners of the event's third night, Saturday, April 19th, Sam Black Church's set at NEMHF 2014 will mark only the third performance since the group initially disbanded at the turn of the century, and first in Central Massachusetts since the late '90s.
Stated the band upon being asked to take part in the massive event this Spring: "It is amazing what the man we used to know as Ogre has done with the New England Metalfest! We are fucking excited to be a part of it once again!"
The organizers of the fest comment: "Formed in Boston, in June of 1988 by Jesse "Jet" Crandall (vocals), Ben Crandall (guitar), Richard G. Lewis (bass), and J.R. Roach (drums), Sam Black Church was known for their energetic live performances, playing a frenetic blend of hardcore, metal, and thrash. Over the years sharing bills with bands as diverse as Bad Brains, Clutch, Motörhead, Cro-Mags, Fear, and Helmet, they were one of the most popular hardcore bands in the Northeast United States during the 1990s. After releasing three full-lengths on Taang! Records, they left to join Wonderdrug where they remained until they retired in 2000 after releasing a total of seven albums. Since disbanding, Sam Black Church reunited for a sold-out show on September 22, 2007, at The Roxy in Boston, and played a another sold-out performance at Hometown Throwdown #16 with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones at House of Blues in Boston on December 29th, 2013.
