"Here at Bloodstock HQ we are excited to announce a whole batch of new additions for all three stages. There’s only seven weeks left to the most metal weekend of the year!! Have you got your tickets yet?!

"Opening Friday’s main stage, and fresh off the back of the release of ‘IV’, their first album in ten years, are British post metallers, Earthzone 9. The band are stoked to find their way to Catton Park’s hallowed ground, commenting 'Earthtone 9 have never played Bloodstock, so we could not be more excited! Mael Mordha Signs With Candlelight Records

Irish Celtic Doom act Mael Mordha has signed on with Candlelight Records. The band has written the follow up LP to the 2010 release "Manannán," which will be the fourth full length release. No details or release date for the new album have been announced.

The press release reads as follows:

"Candlelight Records is proud to announce the signing of Celtic Doom Metal masters Mael Mordha (pronounced MAIL MOOR-AH)

"Mael Mórdha’s sound is a unique fusion of traditional Irish folk laments and elegies with the crushing power of doom metal. The band views its music as conduit between this world and the spirit world and its songs provide a dark, melancholy and epic soundtrack to historical and mythological tales of ancient Ireland.

"Formed in Dublin in 1998 by Roibéard Ó Bogail, whose unusual ‘Sean-nós’ inspired traditional Irish vocal style gives the band its distinctive sound, Mael Mórdha takes its name from a former King of Leinster, who met a bloody end in battle in the year 1014 A.D.

"The band endured a number of line-up changes while self-releasing three EP’s between 1999 and 2003, before signing to Hammerheart Records/Karmageddon Media who released the band’s debut full-length album ‘Cluain Tarbh’ in 2005.

"Later that year the band moved to ‘Grau Records’ and went on to release two new album’s; 2007’s ‘Gealtacht Mael Mórdha’, and 2010’s ‘Manannán’ through the German label which also re-released an extended version of ‘Cluain Tarbh’ in 2008. More...

Mael Mordha Recording New Album

Irish doom metal outfit Mael Mordha has announced that the band has entered Foel Studios in Wales to begin recording a fourth album. The record will be produced by Chris Fielding and feature seven new songs.

Guitarist Gerry Clince stated: "We are looking forward to recording at a location like Foel. It’s very secluded, miles from anywhere and that means we’ll be completely free from distractions and can live and breathe this album 24/7 for the two weeks we are here. We are excited about working with Chris too. He has some great ideas about how to do this one differently and we can’t wait to get started."

Unearthing The Irish Metal Underground

Every week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we take a look at three quality bands that haven't gotten as much exposure yet as they should. This week we'll dig into three rocking outfits all hailing from The Republic of Ireland.

Great Britain may be more well known for their heavy metal, but a short trip West finds that the Republic of Ireland has just as strong a heavy metal background. One could even argue that the Irish metal underground is much more varied than the British, boasting a large number of thrash, black, death and in particular doom metal bands. This week we’ll be taking a look at three of the country’s lesser known bands.

Mael Mordha

Proudly claiming themselves to be the world’s only Gaelic doom metal band, Dublin’s Mael Mordha, who take their name from the King of Leinster who led a gruesome rebellion against the High King of Ireland, Brian Ború in 998, formed exactly one thousand years after their namesake’s revolt. They signed with German label, Grau in 2005 and released their first full length album, "Cluain Tarbh" the same year, along with a split record with fellow Irishmen Primordial. Since then, the band has released two more studio albums, with the most recent being, "Manannan" in 2010.
