Riverside are described as a stylistic blend of atmospheric rock and metal elements, resulting in a sound similar to that of Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Dream Theater, and Tool, while still maintaining an identity of their own.

After recently announcing two special (and now completely sold out) comeback tribute shows in the band's hometown of Warsaw, Poland for February, prog group Riverside is delighted to announce a next European tour for April/May 2017. The band checked in to say
"2017 must be a better year. And we have to come back to life. But we won't, unless we come back to the stage... so it is our great pleasure to inform you that Riverside will go back to playing live this year.
"After two very special evenings in February, which, for obvious reasons, are going to be unique and one of a kind, we have planned two legs of a special 'Towards the Blue Horizon' tour. The first one will begin in April and May. The second one will start in the autumn and we'll visit more European countries.
"During 'Towards the Blue Horizon' tour we will play in a new live line-up with a guest guitarist who will make our music sound the way it should, not only because he's a great musician but, most of all, because he's got the kind of modesty and humility about him which has always been very important to us on stage. Additionally, we're going to present a lot of compositions which we have not played live before. Our concerts will also be filled with emotions we haven't felt before. Together with you, we want to dive into this and make each composition sound more mighty than ever. More...
Polish prog rock act Riverside released a new music video for the song "Shine." The track appears on the new release "Eye Of The Soundscape," a complementary instrumental album issued via InsideOutMusic last week.
"Eye of the Soundscape" includes 13 experimental and highly atmospheric compositions, which showcase Riverside's ambient electronic side.
Mariusz Duda checked in about "Eye Of the Soundscape" as follows: "Friday was the release date of one of the most important albums in my career. Inspirations with electronic music, which I grew up listening to, are finally here in the form I have always dreamed of - a full, long instrumental album. An album which will most likely disrupt a certain image of the band itself and will allow to look at what we have done so far from a greater perspective. When we were planning this Riverside release, I didn't expect such turn of events. I didn't expect an earthquake. But the artwork prepared by Travis Smith hasn't changed because when we were making this album, we saw colours and we were overflowing with joy. It is, contrary to what you might expect, a very bright and hopeful release. It's supposed to heal and inspire thought. In spite of all. Because life must go on. It's for you Gru, and for all of us."

October 21st, 2016 will mark the release of "Eye Of The Soundscape," a complementary instrumental album by Polish Prog masters Riverside, via InsideOutMusic. The release features cover artwork by Travis Smith and includes 13 experimental and highly atmospheric compositions, which showcase Riverside's ambient electronic side.
The release's opening track, "Where The River Flows", is available as of today online as first single via the streaming/digital download outlet of your choice or it can also be checked out in the player below.
Riverside's Mariusz Duda checked in with the following comment about the track: "This composition shows what the new Riverside album is about. Long, spacey soundscapes and the marriage of electronic and organic music. In my opinion a perfect introduction to our ambient and instrumental world. One of the last four compositions with Grudzien. One day we will all meet where the river flows".
"Eye Of The Soundscape" compiles all the special instrumental Riverside tracks previously used as bonus material for the "Shrine Of New Generation Slaves" and "Love, Fear And The Time Machine" albums, alongside rare cuts as well as 4 new songs ("Where The River Flows", "Shine", "Sleepwalkers" and "Eye Of The Soundscape") into a massive playing time of +100 minutes, which will be available as 2CD-Mediabook, 3LP (With both CD's as bonus and an etching on Side F!) or as Digital Download. Polish prog masters Riverside have released a statement regarding the future of the band following the death of guitarist and founder Piotr Grudzinski and you can find the full text below:
"We'd like to thank you again for your friendship and support throughout this most tragic time for us and we'd like to officially announce that we have made a decision about our future.
"We have decided that we are not going to do a casting for a new guitarist. Thus we have ceased to be a quartet and have become a trio. In this line-up we will prepare our new studio album. Both in the recording studio and on tour - if we get back to touring - we will be playing with session guitarists, who are our friends, whom we know and like. But the line-up of Riverside will be as shown in the picture.
"Yes, we do realise that this is not going to be the same band. We know that for many of you the story of Riverside ends here, this year, and that 'Eye of the Soundscape' might be the last Riverside album you'll buy. We know that some of you can't imagine this band without the characteristic guitar of Piotr Grudzinski and for you Riverside has ceased to exist. But our story is not over yet; with a flaw, with a scar, with a wealth of new experiences, we have decided to go on.
"We know stories of many bands that have survived and have been successful, in spite of all. And we want to be the living proof that giving up is not an option and that we can be an inspiration for others, too. For as long as we can, we'll continue to do our best to create and meet with you wherever the emotions are running high. Grudzien will still be with us. We are definitely not going to forget him. He's a part of our lives. But in order for the memory of him to survive, we have to continue. And we want to. So we're embarking on another journey and we are thankful to everyone who will join us. Polish progressive rock act Riverside have released the following statement with regards the recent tragic passing of founding member and guitarist Piotr Grudzinski, who passed away on February 21, 2016:
"On behalf of the family and our own we would like to thank everyone for the support and your presence in those difficult moments. Piotr passed away unexpectedly of natural causes (sudden cardiac arrest) on Sunday morning (21st February). We have remained with emptiness and open wounds which need time to heal. For obvious reasons we have decided to cancel all concerts confirmed for this year. At the same time we would like to inform you that we are going to carry out this year releases scheduled for late spring and autumn 2016.
Thank you for your support." More...
Progressive rock act Riverside announced that guitarist Piotr Grudzinski passed away this morning. No specifics on the death were released, but Grudzinski was just 40 years old. Riverside just released the latest album "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" back in September 2015, having played ProgPower USA in the same month that year followed by a U.S. tour.
In a statement on the band's Facebook page, the band commented: "In our deepest pain and disbelief we would like to inform you that our dearest friend and brother Piotr Grudzinski has passed away this morning. We kindly ask you to respect the privacy of his family and friends."
More information is expected soon. More...
ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston announced that Andorra's Persefone is the latest band to be cancelled from the 2015 roster, in part due to visa issues. The USCIS has reared its ugly head causing the most issues since 2009 for the annual festival.
Harveston explains: "Unfortunately, this situation is not a simple as the Morgana Lefay cancellation, although the visa process is once again at the root of things. It is no secret now the USCIS center in Vermont is running 4-6 weeks behind their normal schedule assuming there is no RFE (request for evidence). We technically still have three weeks we can wait to receive these visas and then schedule the mandatory interviews. However, Persefone booked a European tour in June with the assumption they would have completed the interviews prior to kicking off their tour. They cannot complete any interviews while on tour. I requested they wait until after the tour and then complete the interviews as there was still possibly time. I was informed the day job of one of the band members prevents him from traveling to Madrid during that time frame, especially with no specific date to schedule currently. Thus, I am left with no choice but to cancel the band now.
"I know these types of explanations are frustrating to you, the fans. There is simply nothing that can be done. In the immortal words of the great American poet, Jimmy Buffett, 'Breathe in..Breathe Out..Move On.' Please know that there is no animosity between the band and myself. I truly understand and empathize with their situation. I wish the band nothing but the best and will continue to support them in the future."
Within hours of the announcement, Canada's Unleash the Archers was added to the bill. The latest roster list is as follows: More...
Legendary hard rock/metal vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman, T.S.O., ex-Yngwie Malmsteen) has been confirmed for the sold-out ProgPower USA festival this year in Atlanta, Georgia, replacing Sweden's Morgan Lefay, who became the latest victim of the USICS Visa System. In a special performance, Jeff will celebrate his entire 30 year career at the festival performing songs from many of his bands along the way, including Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen, Axel Pell Rudi, W.E.T., Rock Star, as well as his solo releases.
Jeff stated: "Having known about the ProgPower USA fest for years, I'm proud to be invited to present the ONLY US show this year with my 30th anniversary show! Me and the boys couldn't be more excited to rock Atlanta!"
Promoter Glenn Harveston added: "I’m honestly still in awe Jeff has graciously stepped up to the plate to help us out at the last minute. I can say I have never had such an amazing and quick conversation with an artist when it comes to booking a band. That is not only a sign of a true professional, but someone wanting to perform for our festival audience. Nothing fires up this crowd more than knowing a legendary name like Jeff Scott Soto actually wants to be in Atlanta. I'd also like to thank Sun Hill Management for the great response time."
Jeff Scott Soto recently took part in the sold out T.S.O./Savatage two stage spectacle at Wacken this past weekend. His latest solo release "Inside the Vertigo," under the monikor Soto, was released by earMusic back in January. More...

Following up on 2013's "Shrine of New Generation Slaves" release, Polish prog band Riverside is now working on a new studio album, to be released August/September 2015 via InsideOutMusic.
Riverside just finished composing all material and announced "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" as the title of the new album.
"Our sixth album, six words in the title, sixty minutes of new music, that's about how long the new release will be. And we won't be playing hard rock any more", Mariusz Duda laughs. "There will be many more melodies dressed in completely different shades. We're changing and evolving as a band, we're growing up but most of all we want to keep recording different albums which are simply great to listen to. And the new one will be like a deep breath of fresh air, very different to what we'd done before.
"Love, fear and the times that have shaped us have the biggest influence on our life choices. The lyrics will be about everything that pushes us to make the most important decisions in our life."
The band is going to start recording the new material in March and it will be possible to follow the progress at Instagram here.
Some of the new songs will already be played at this year's summer festivals. Here is an overview of all upcoming Riverside festival appearances announced so far for 2015:

18. July 2015 - St. Goarshausen (Germany) - Night Of The Prog X

While on tour with his American power trio - The Winery Dogs - Mike Portnoy filmed an epic and personalized invite video to his first ever Progressive Nation at Sea Cruise.
Portnoy takes you band by band and leads you through the musical adventure that attendees have to look forward to at this one of a kind, floating prog festival taking place February 2014. Mike Portnoy had this to say:
"I could not be any prouder or any more excited than I am for Progressive Nation At Sea 2014. It is my ultimate dream lineup ranging from legends like Jon Anderson & Adrian Belew to Prog trailblazers like Spock's Beard & the Flower Kings to today's most extreme cutting edge artists like Devin Townsend and Periphery.
"I am also excited to be playing with Bigelf, PSMS & Transatlantic...the final encore of which will see Transatlantic & Jon Anderson joining forces for a one-time only set of Yes classics! This is going to be a historic experience and the Prog event of the Millennium! You will not want to miss out on this!"
The lineup features Adrian Belew's Power Trio, Devin Townsend Project, King's X, Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, Pain Of Salvation, Anathema, Riverside, Periphery, Animals as Leaders, The Safety Fire, Tony Harnell & Bumblefoot, Bigelf, Beardfish, The Dear Hunter, Haken, Jolly, Anneke van Giersbergen, Mark Mikel and Next to None. Progressive Nation is hitting the high seas in 2014! The inaugural sailing will occur on February 18th - 22nd 2014 on the luxurious Norwegian Pearl heading from Miami to Great Stirrup Cay and Freeport, Bahamas. The lineup includes:
Transatlantic, Portnoy Sheehan Macalpine Sherinian, Jon Anderson, Adrian Belew's Power Trio, Devin Townsend, King's X, Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, Pain Of Salvation, Riverside, Animals As Leaders, The Safety Fire, Tony Harnell & Bumblefoot, Bigelf, Beardfish, The Dear Hunter, Haken, Jolly And Next To None
Progressive Nation founder Mike Portnoy elaborates:
"In 2008 & 2009, I created a touring package called 'Progressive Nation' and with Dream Theater headlining, we did three full tours (two in North America and one in Europe) that showcased a variety of bands that embraced the spirit and musicality of progressive music.
"Well after a 5 year hiatus, I have decided to resurrect Progressive Nation and this time we are taking it to the seas! But rather than a 4 band bill like previous Progressive Nation tours, we have expanded the bill to OVER A DOZEN of today's greatest progressive bands, musicians and artists! (and there may be one or two more still to be confirmed)
"Myself and my former DT bandmate Derek Sherinian have teamed up with Sixthman (who have done incredibly successful cruises with Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the annual Kiss Cruise to name a few) as well as our friends at InsideOut Music and look forward to a very successful inaugural launch of Progressive Nation at Sea Feb 18th thru 22nd 2014. Poland's progressive rockers Riverside have released a music video for "Celebrity Touch," the first single off their fifth studio album "Shrine of New Generation Slaves."
"'Celebrity Touch' reflects the times we live in," says Riverside's Mariusz Duda. "I think everyone has a deep need to feel important somehow, but unfortunately, this need is rarely satisfied. Of course some people do get the chance, mostly people connected with the so-called celebrity world. This is a story about someone who satisfied this feeling a bit too much and about the band that chose to play away from the galleries with shitty works."
Directed by Mateusz Winkiel of Mania Studio, the video can be seen in the YouTube player available below. "Shrine of New Generation Slaves" will be available in North America on February 5th, 2013 via InsideOut Music.
In support of the album, following a full European tour, Riverside will be playing a handful of shows in North America with label-mates Jolly. A full list of dates can be seen after the jump. More...
Poland's progressive rockers Riverside have released the first look into their upcoming release, "Shrine of New Generation Slaves." Set for a North American release date of February 5th, 2013, this will be Riverside's fifth studio album. The album artwork and track list for "Shrine of New Generation Slaves" can be seen below, along with an official album trailer.
Riverside comments, "The lyrics on the new album deal with different situations we face in our modern times and how we sometimes become enslaved by them and by the style of life they dictate. For instance, we are dominated and bombarded by increasingly stupefying media. The media, in turn, is dominated by more and more people who are known for their well-knownness... Celebrities, the modern representatives of a need which lies deep within us all and is rarely satisfied - the feeling of importance. This feeling, and some of the dilemmas and complications connected with it, is the subject of our newest single - 'Celebrity Touch.' Musically, we still try to extend the bridge to connect the new music to the old. In this track we achieved some kind of original mixture and I hope you will enjoy this piece of new album."
The track listing is:
01. New Generation Slave (4:17)
02. The Depth of Self-Delusion (7:39)
03. Celebrity Touch (6:48)
04. We Got Used To Us (4:12)
05. Feel Like Falling (5:17)
06. Deprived [Irretrievably Lost Imagination] (8:26)
07. Escalator Shrine (12:41)
08. Coda (1:39)

Poland's progressive rockers Riverside have just completed their fifth studio album, "Shrine Of New Generation Slaves," and are proud to announce the effort will see a North American release on February 5th, 2013. Out on longtime record label InsideOut Music, the album will also be available in Europe on January 21st, 2013.
"Shrine Of New Generation Slaves" was recorded at Serakos Studio in Warsaw, Poland, where Reality Dream Trilogy was also tracked. Recorded with Magda Srzednicka and Robert Srzednicki, the album offers nearly an hour of classic Riverside music.
Vocalist Mariusz explains, "In 2012 we've been focusing on the work on the new album, and trying to prove, mostly to ourselves, that we can still surprise with something, and what's most important - create an album that would become our showpiece, music-wise and lyrics-wise. The title might sound a bit intricate, but the acronym will definitely explain what we did with our music this time."
A video interview that was conducted with Riverside directly from the studio can be seen below. "Shrine Of New Generation Slaves" is the follow-up to the band's 2009 release, "Anno Domini High Definition," which entered the Poland charts at #1 and has since hit gold album status. The new album is on the way. I believe it will be a new beginning for Riverside."
