CreativeLive will livestream its next Music & Audio channel course, "Mastering Metal Songwriting," tomorrow (Tuesday, June 17th) at 9:00 a.m. PDT / 12:00 p.m. EDT.
Eyal Levi, producer at Audiohammer Studios (The Black Dahlia Murder, August Burns Red, Whitechapel), will host the two-day class along with special guests Ryan Clark (Demon Hunter), Todd Jones (Nails) and John Browne (Monuments).
In this course, free to watch live, Levi, Clark, Jones and Browne will explore what it takes to craft great songs, from basic song structure and riff-writing, to writing melodies, leads and vocals, and then fine-tuning the arrangement to take your song from good to great.
The class will also feature critiques of songs from Kaine, Sacred Ash, and Mechanigod - which were chosen out of more than 300 entries submitted by bands at the Metalunderground Facebook page. More...
Southern California-based four man hatecrew Nails has inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Entertainment to release an as-of-yet-untitled third album. This full-length is tentatively scheduled to be unleashed upon the masses sometime in the first quarter of 2015.
“After waging an oppressive blitzkrieg against the world in 2013 with Abandon All Life, Nails will join the ranks of the legendary Nuclear Blast for our next campaign of grindcore/death/punk tyranny,” comments vocalist/guitarist Todd Jones. “Alongside the hate dogs is none other than Monte Conner, building on his work with gods like Obituary, Death, and Sepultura in bringing the extreme underground to the forefront of heavy music. Deep in a Southern California bunker crafting our newest LP, the tyrants offer sincere thanks to our former team at Southern Lord for their commitment to NAILS' vision. Long live bleak aggression, crushing rage, and audial warfare. Long live Nails. HATRED AD INFINITUM…”
The Nails crew consists of:
Todd Jones – Vocals, Guitar
Saba – Guitar
John Gianelli – Bass
Taylor Young – Drums

The latest round of additions to the continually-expanding lineup for 2014's installment of the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival has been disclosed, including Massachusetts' own '90s hardcore punk act, Sam Black Church.
Confirmed as one of the main headliners of the event's third night, Saturday, April 19th, Sam Black Church's set at NEMHF 2014 will mark only the third performance since the group initially disbanded at the turn of the century, and first in Central Massachusetts since the late '90s.
Stated the band upon being asked to take part in the massive event this Spring: "It is amazing what the man we used to know as Ogre has done with the New England Metalfest! We are fucking excited to be a part of it once again!"
The organizers of the fest comment: "Formed in Boston, in June of 1988 by Jesse "Jet" Crandall (vocals), Ben Crandall (guitar), Richard G. Lewis (bass), and J.R. Roach (drums), Sam Black Church was known for their energetic live performances, playing a frenetic blend of hardcore, metal, and thrash. Over the years sharing bills with bands as diverse as Bad Brains, Clutch, Motörhead, Cro-Mags, Fear, and Helmet, they were one of the most popular hardcore bands in the Northeast United States during the 1990s. After releasing three full-lengths on Taang! Records, they left to join Wonderdrug where they remained until they retired in 2000 after releasing a total of seven albums. Since disbanding, Sam Black Church reunited for a sold-out show on September 22, 2007, at The Roxy in Boston, and played a another sold-out performance at Hometown Throwdown #16 with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones at House of Blues in Boston on December 29th, 2013. A documentary of their career by Duncan Wilder Johnson entitled Leave Behind a Groove in the Earth is scheduled for release in 2014."
Also now confirmed to invade this year's festival are Oceano, Scars of Tomorrow, The Last Ten Seconds of Life, InDirections, and Julius Seizure on Thursday, April 17th, and Reflections on Friday, April 18th. The setup for Saturday, April 19th has also been lengthened with Texas In July, Obey The Brave and the aforementioned Sam Black Church performance. Nails has teamed up with Terrorizer to stream the song "Wide Open Wound," which can be heard below or at Terrorizer.com here. The following press release was also issued about the track:
"Let's get straight to the point - if NAILS' new record Abandon All Life is a howling war cry, then the track 'Wide Open Wound' is the battle. Replete with bludgeoning beatdowns, grinding blasts, hyper-distorted vocals, hard-hitting metallic chugs and early death metal riffs, rage intensifies to a climatic end where the guitars wail and militant drum breakdowns send us marching. Clocking in at 3:37, 'Wide Open Wound' is an absolute epic for NAILS and it accentuates just how dynamic Abandon All Life really is.
"Recorded at Godcity with Kurt Ballou (Converge) and mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise). 'Abandon All Life' will drop in North America via Southern Lord on March 19th."

The split 7? EP between Nails and Skin Like Iron, being collaboratively released by both bands at the end of January, is now streaming in its entirety via Decibel Magazine’s website right here. The following press release about the split was also posted online:
"Running the show on side A, San Francisco’s Skin Like Iron has already become a well-known entity in modern hardcore with nearly ten releases on such admirable dissident hardcore labels as Six Feet Under and React Records. The split leads off with two tracks of the band's melodic, yet abrasive hardcore, boasting an ambitious and emotive energy that many similar contemporary acts lack in severely.
"The B-side of this crushing joint venture is owned by Nails, hailing from Oxnard, California (the same town as the legendary Dr. Know), and undoubtedly one of the most devastating acts within the present expanses of hardcore. As on the band's Southern Lord debut LP "Unsilent Death," Nails gets in, kills, and gets out, just as fans expect on these two tracks, which are in fact a preview of what is to be expected of their upcoming full-length, now being constructed for release via Southern Lord in sometime in 2012.
"The limited one-time pressing of this raging hardcore EP has been manufactured to supply the public with 900 copies on black wax and 100 copies on blue. The artwork was handled by SKIN LIKE IRON’s Alex Capasso who has handled the art duties for previous releases for the band. Preorders for the EP can be found here."

Nails is also currently working on the follow-up to the "Unsilent Death" album, which will see release sometime this Winter.
On Day Two, the scene had changed. The street in front of the club had been shut down and made into the fest grounds. One stage was at each end of the street, just over the length of the building. I won’t say that the festival had a lot of space; we were kind of worried about bands overlapping and drowning out each other’s sound. But the rigs for each stage were so loud that that would prove impossible. Vendors also lined up between the two stages selling boxes of vinyl, CDs, and even some cassettes. There were t-shirts galore with hideous pictures and illegible logos. I was really amused by the black metal face-painting stand where you could choose from KISS, Immortal, King Diamond, and your other favorite corpse-painted rockers. Inside Sonar was a new merch room that was so constantly crowded and oddly arranged, it kind of looked like a beggar’s village with really cool wares for sale. With so much drink, food, merchandise from every band in existence, and amazing live shows all day long, you couldn’t ask for more. More...
The Maryland Deathfest organizers report that "Sonar will be re-opening before MDF, and technically they already have."
As previously reported, the venue of the Maryland Deathfest was up in the air when Baltimore's Sonar nightclub failed to renew their liquor license and closed its doors.
The organizers futher commented: "These last couple of days have been incredibly confusing and stressful, but we are currently back to the regularly scheduled program. And don't worry, beyond plan B is a plan C, because that's how we roll. See you in a couple of weeks."
As such, the set times that were previously announced should now hold.
