Since 1985 Zombie has been carving out a strange legacy of music in the world of rock, beginning in with the formation of his brainchild White Zombie. From the start, White Zombie was a bizarre hybrid of hardcore/punk aggression, Lower East Side art-damage and hard rock thunder. As if that weren’t enough, these fixations were filtered through Mr. Zombie’s love of classic horror/sci-fi films, trash hot rod culture and generally, all things on the dark side.

White Zombie was most noted for their release 'Astro Creep 2000'. The album reached #10 on billboard and stayed for two months. After this record, we started to see a little different style from Zombie. What might best be called Techno-Horror Rock. Since then Zombie has gone solo, simply renaming the band 'Rob Zombie'.

Rob Zombie is a man of many faces. He has done work on the Beavis and Butthead movie, directed all videos since going solo, wrote a script for 'The Crow 3' (which got scrapped), and is currently in the works of creating and directing his first feature film entitled 'House Of 1000 Corpses'. In short, Rob Zombie is an entertaiment genius.

More Ozzfest Confirmations And Rumors Released

ROB ZOMBIE, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and AS I LAY DYING have secured three non-rotating slots on the second stage of this year's Ozzfest, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. Other acts believed to have been confirmed for the second stage include THE HAUNTED, MASTODON and BURY YOUR DEAD.

Although there has been no official confirmation on the matter, the 10th edition of Ozzfest is expected to be headlined by BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN. Also believed to be in the running for the festival's main stage are BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and the classic "Among the Living" lineup of ANTHRAX. Other rumored main-stage acts are MEGADETH, DISTURBED and SHADOWS FALL.

As reported here on Monday, an Ozzfest representative has told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that the lineup and dates for this year's travelling festival will be announced at a press conference "mid-March."

Shadows Fall, The Haunted Lined Up For Ozzfest '05

Century Media recording artists Shadows Fall and the Haunted have secured slots at this year's Ozzfest. Shadows Fall are expected to appear on the main stage while the Haunted are said to be in the mix for the smaller second stage, which will apparently feature more non-rotating slots this summer compared to the last couple of years. Other acts believed to have been selected for the 10-year-anniversary edition of Ozzfest are Black Label Society, Rob Zombie, Killswitch Engage and Mudvayne. Iron Maiden are strongly rumored to have nabbed the co-headlining slot alongside Black Sabbath, who will make a series of European live appearances in June/July prior to the Ozzfest U.S. kick-off. Also expected to perform on the main stage is the "Among the Living" lineup of Anthrax, who have yet to officially confirm their "reunion" plans despite having already been announced for four European festival appearances this spring/summer (Holland's Dynamo Open Air on May 7, Sweden's Sweden Rock on June 9-11, Italy's Gods of Metal on June 11-12 and France's Fury Fest on June 24-26).

Last year's Ozzfest was one of the heaviest in the tour's history, featuring Sabbath, a reunited Judas Priest, Slayer, Slipknot, Lamb of God, Dimmu Borgir, Hatebreed and others.

BLS, Rob Zombie, Mudvayne, KSE To Play Ozzfest 05?

Word has it that BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and ROB ZOMBIE have both secured slots on the 10-year-anniversary edition of Ozzfest, with Zakk Wylde's troupe slated to kick off the proceedings on the main stage. Meanwhile, ZOMBIE, MUDVAYNE and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE are said to be in the mix for the smaller second stage, which is expected to feature more non-rotating slots this summer compared to the last couple of years.

As previously reported, IRON MAIDEN are set to co-headline the entire event with BLACK SABBATH, although recent reports indicate that OZZY OSBOURNE (with Zakk Wylde on guitar) may attempt to stage a solo performance at this year's festival. Also expected to perform on the main stage is the "Among the Living" lineup of ANTHRAX, which has already been confirmed for three European festivals this spring/summer (Holland's Dynamo Open Air on May 7, Sweden's Sweden Rock on June 9-11 and Italy's Gods of Metal on June 11-12) prior to their appearance at Ozzfest.

More Info On Damageplan Nightclub Shooting

Scoop of the Columbus, Ohio radio station The Blitz 99.7 FM has confirmed to Blabbermouth.net that Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul was uninjured in the shooting incident at a Columbus nightclub which resulted in the death of Paul's brother, Dimebag Darrell. According to Scoop, who attended the concert and briefly saw Vinnie following the incident, Paul was in a complete state of shock and expressed his desire to be with his brother right after the shooting occurred.

A friend of Scoop's, Kevin Minerd, who also attended the concert, told Blabbermouth.net that the gunman entered the stage from the left side and walked over to the right side where Dimebag was standing before grabbing the guitarist and pumping several bullets into him. Additional shots were fired, although it's presently unclear which other member of Damageplan, if any, was killed in the incident.

"A Columbus police officer, when he arrived, engaged the shooter, and the shooter is also dead, and if the officer hadn't acted when he did and how he did, we'd probably be looking at more dead, because this guy was actively shooting," Sergeant Brent Mull, public information officer, told MTV News.

"We have 200-plus patrons that we have sequestered inside three city buses," Sergeant Mull explained. "We are interviewing them one by one. The ones that were inside and witnessed this, ran for their lives and were in fear for their lives. They are victims too, and we want to take care of them."

As news of Dimebag's (born Darrell Lance Abbott in Dallas, Texas on August 20, 1966) bizarre and tragic demise rippled through the metal community, the news was met with shock and sadness.

"I'm speechless," friend and Rob Zombie/Ozzy Osbourne bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson told MTV. "This is totally unreal. Dimebag is a fucking legend and this is total bullshit."

"This is insane and this is beyond travesty," Killswitch Engage frontman, and former Damageplan tour partner, Howard Jones said. "This is beyond anything I've ever heard. This shouldn't happen in or outside of the rock and metal community. He will be missed and mourned as a person, as a musician, and as a friend."

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, whose band has toured with Pantera and has featured Dimebag guest appearances on their albums, stated in a posting on Anthrax's web site, "I am devastated as I'm sure we all are. All I can convey at this moment are my condolences to Rita and Vinnie and the whole family. My heart is with you."

Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx offered the following: "Dime, I will never forget all the times you made us laugh. I'm so happy we got to spend the day together in London recently… We should all live our lives as full as you have. I will miss you, as will all of us... This is a sad day."

Rich Ward (Fozzy, Stuck Mojo): "Darrell was as nice as they come. During the times that I spent with him, I wondered why he played in such a heavy band. Not that he didn't have the ability to school all of us that dared to share a stage with him, but because he seemed like such a gentle and kind man. He had a great sense of humor and was someone that everyone in the room gravitated toward. He never carried himself like the big rock star that he really was, instead he came across humble and appreciative. I consider it a privilege to have known him, as he was one of the 'real' guys in the business and as Zakk [Wylde] would say, 'one of the boys'!"

Shaun Glass (Soil): "Today I am saddened to say I lost my friend and hero it sickens me that someone would take away a person that brought so much joy to so many people. Love ya, Double D."

Jon Dette (ex-Slayer, Testament): "My brother just called to tell me that Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed on stage tonight. Words cannot express the sadness I'm feeling right now and my condolences go out to Vinnie Paul and the Abbott family for their loss. This is a huge tragedy for the music world."

Orange County, California-based sextet Bleed The Sky (recently signed to Nuclear Blast Records): "It's a sad day in heavy metal, Dimebag Darrell formerly of Pantera, was shot and killed while performing with Damageplan in Ohio. We would more than likely not be a band if it wasn't for him, and can't possibly imagine the pain that his brother and his family must be in. RIP, brother, heavy music will never be the same without you."

Scum Of The Earth Announce Headlining Tour

Scum of the Earth, the new band from ex-Rob Zombie guitarist Riggs, announced today they will embark on a nationwide tour supporting their Eclipse Records debut, "Blah, Blah, Blah, Love Songs for the New Millennium." The tour will commence October 26, the very day the albums drops, canvas most of the U.S. and venture into Canada. Riggs recorded Blah' with an all-star cast of friends including Zombie drummer John Tempesta (White Zombie, Rob Zombie) and his brother Mike Tempesta (guitar, Powerman 5000), marking the first time the brothers have played together on record, SOAD drummer John Dolmayan, as well as Clay Others (bass) and more. On tour, Riggs will be flanked by Adema guitarist Ransom, PM5K drummer Adrian Ost and others.

"We're trotting out the scummier side of the Scum family," says Riggs. "Lock up your daughters and small animals."

Blah' was produced by Michael Beinhorn (Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Irv Gotti. It will be the first CD to feature UMixIt interactive technology, an enhanced feature that allows listeners, should they desire a little more grind in tracks like 'Pornstar Champion,' to play producer/Dr. Frankenstein and isolate, violate and remix on their computer, up to 16 audio tracks by emphasizing, cutting back or removing any instrument or vocal.

In addition, Scum of the Earth has lensed a video for the single 'Get Your Dead On' with director Rob Prior (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), based on his upcoming film Shadow Walker, currently in pre-production. The unique horror film's main character will be the basis for the clip which, in an unprecedented move, will introduce the mythology of the Shadow Walker villain before its appearance in a film, comic book, or video game (each is scheduled for release next year). Prior conceived the Shadow Walker, a violent creature from New Zealand folklore that moves only within darkness, with groundbreaking comic book writer Paul Jenkins ("Origin: The True Story of Wolverine," "Spider-Man: Return of the Goblin," "The Incredible Hulk," "Darkness: Resurrection"). Prior, a renowned master of photorealistic comic book art (he crafted the creatures for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel), designed the Shadowalker.

Jenkins and Prior decided that music video would be the ideal medium to introduce what they hope will be the breakout monster franchise of 2005. Scum of the Earth, a breakout monster band, is a natural partner.

Rob Zombie Bassist Talks About New Project

Rob Zombie/ex-Ozzy Osbourne bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson recently spoke to Horror Rock Bass about his new project The Death Riders. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

Horror Rock Bass: Can you tell us a little about the band and how the project came together?

Blasko: "Jonny [Coffin, guitar] and I built a relationship through his company Coffin Case. We were hangin' out one day at the shop and he played me some early demo ideas that he and Danny [Daniel Gray, vocals] had been working on. At that moment I knew it was something that we needed to pursue. I thought the stuff was so dark and original, and I really wanted to put some effort into bringing the project to life. It basically became my 'side' project while I was in Rob's band. Once Rob decided to focus on movies, it became my 'main' project. Now here we are talking about it..." More...

Rob Zombie To Work On New Album Next Year

Rob Zombie's script for 'House of 1000 Corpses 2' has been approved, and the horror auteur tells MTV News he'll start casting the production after the holidays. "It's a very different film," Zombie said regarding the sequel. "It's much darker and more serious. It's a gritty crime movie like [the 1973 Terrence Malick film] 'Badlands.' There's nothing campy or wacky at all." Meanwhile, Zombie plans to start writing his next solo album early next year. Although he hasn't written any new songs, he's got a game plan. "I really want to make a much heavier, darker record," he said. "I'm not worrying about radio or television or anything. I just want to make a really scary record."

Zombie will once again co-write with Scott Humphrey, who has worked on all of his solo albums, but Zombie's backing band will probably be entirely new. "I want to get some new people in there and just experiment," he said. "But I don't have any timetable. If a bunch of songs come quick, the record will come quicker. If they don't, the record will take longer."

Rob Zombie, Niles Team For Creep Entertainment

Rocker Rob Zombie and author-cartoonist Steve Niles have created Creep Entertainment International, a horror-themed production company, Variety reported. The company will begin with three comic-book projects that, down the road, are expected to be adapted for films: The Nail, with Dark Horse Comics; Bigfoot, with IDW Comics; and Lords of Salem, a combination music-comics project, the trade paper reported.

All tales were co-written by Zombie and Niles. The books will be illustrated by some established comic talents, the trade paper reported.

Zombie made his film debut writing and directing House of 1000 Corpses for New Line, and he is in preproduction on the sequel, which he will again write and direct, the trade paper reported. Zombie's first comic venture, Spookshow International, quickly sold out after its release in October.

Niles has already started to write Nail, which is peopled with 1970s-style satanic bikers and wrestlers. Lords of Salem is based on a satanic band.
