Rob Zombie
Formed: 1985
From:
New York,
NY,
United States
Last Known Status: Active
Background
Since 1985 Zombie has been carving out a strange legacy of music in the world of rock, beginning in with the formation of his brainchild White Zombie. From the start, White Zombie was a bizarre hybrid of hardcore/punk aggression, Lower East Side art-damage and hard rock thunder. As if that weren’t enough, these fixations were filtered through Mr. Zombie’s love of classic horror/sci-fi films, trash hot rod culture and generally, all things on the dark side.
White Zombie was most noted for their release 'Astro Creep 2000'. The album reached #10 on billboard and stayed for two months. After this record, we started to see a little different style from Zombie. What might best be called Techno-Horror Rock. Since then Zombie has gone solo, simply renaming the band 'Rob Zombie'.
Rob Zombie is a man of many faces. He has done work on the Beavis and Butthead movie, directed all videos since going solo, wrote a script for 'The Crow 3' (which got scrapped), and is currently in the works of creating and directing his first feature film entitled 'House Of 1000 Corpses'. In short, Rob Zombie is an entertaiment genius.

Sheriff Refuses To Give Ozzy Osbourne An Apology
As previously reported, Ozzy Osbourne recently expressed outrage following a police sting operation in Fargo, ND, that used his name to lure unsuspecting contest "winners" to a pre-show bash, where they were promptly arrested for outstanding warrants. Dave Kolpack of the Associated Press has issued a follow-up report, found below:
One Ozzy Osbourne fan thinks it's clever while another thinks he should sue. Either way, the Cass County sheriff who used Osbourne's concert as bait in a sting operation says he's not apologizing to the hard rock musician.
"If Mr. Osbourne has a desire and a need to speak to me, he can contact me at the Cass County sheriff's office," Sheriff Paul Laney said, in response to a statement from Osbourne demanding an apology. "I'm proud of my staff. We're not going to apologize for doing our jobs."
Laney's department sent out 500 letters to people with outstanding warrants, inviting them to a phony party at a local nightclub before Osbourne's concert with Rob Zombie last week at the Fargodome. The offer included two free tickets to the show.
More than 30 people showed up and were arrested. They were being sought on charges ranging from delinquent child support payments to traffic and drug fines.
Osbourne said in a statement that the sting tarnished his reputation by implying his concerts attract criminals. He could not be reached Wednesday for further comment.
Anthony James, 36, an Ozzy Osbourne fan from Fargo, said Osbourne should sue the city and the sheriff for using his name without permission.
"It's not right. It's not fair," James said. "It also implies that all of his fans are criminals and crooks. That's stereotyping us."
Fargo lawyer Michael Raum said North Dakota does not have "false light" laws that aim to protect against invasion of privacy, and it's unlikely that Osbourne has any legal recourse because he is a public figure.
"He would be facing an uphill climb," Raum said.
Troy Salonen, 39, who owns a guitar store in Fargo, is an Ozzy Osbourne fan and member of a local fan club for Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde. Salonen laughed at Osbourne's comment that the sting hurt his reputation.
"I think snorting ants and biting the heads off doves and bats has done more to damage his reputation than this sting," he said.
"I thought it was ingenious," Salonen said. "If somebody has broken the law they have warrants out for them, they should get picked up. It was clever and I think it was the right thing to do."
The sheriff's department was not specifically targeting the Osbourne concert, Laney said. "That show came up during the time we were dealing with the situation," he said.
Managers at Playmakers, the nightclub that hosted the sting, said they were assured the location would be kept quiet, and said they won't hold another one.
Rob Sobolik, executive director of the Fargodome, said he hoped the incident would not hurt efforts by the dome and its managing company, Global Spectrum, to attract concerts.
"I think it's important to point out that the Fargodome and Global Spectrum had nothing to do with this. We didn't support it. We didn't condone it," Sobolik said.
Sobolik said he was contacted by authorities about holding the phony party at the dome.
"We said, 'absolutely not,'" Sobolik said. "We didn't see any benefit by doing that."
Steven Mottinger, a Fargo public defender, said there may have been a better option for the sheriff's department.
"They knew where to send these people letters," Mottinger said. "If they were Cass County residents, don't you think they could just go out and pick them up?"
Rob Zombie Talks White Zombie Box Set
Rob Zombie recently spoke to Gary Graff of Billboard.com about the long-delayed WHITE ZOMBIE box set. "I always keep putting it on the back burner to do other projects," he said. "I'm not real good at going back and wanting to re-do old stuff. I always want to do new stuff, so that's why that project keeps dragging on forever."
He does have a plan for it, however — "Basically every single thing ever so that I could put out the box set and say, 'That's everything. Don't ask me about anything else. That's everything that band ever recorded,' 'cause there isn't a lot of extra stuff. But there's tons of stuff that was never on CD, that was on these limited vinyl releases."
As to whether the WHITE ZOMBIE box will finally see a 2008 release, Zombie — who's currently touring with OZZY OSBOURNE — offered a definite "maybe. If I wait much longer, no one will know what a boxed set is."

Ozzy Osbourne Fans Arrested In Party Raid
Patrick Springer of The Associated Press reports: Some fans who turned out for a party before Monday's [October 29] OZZY OSBOURNE-ROB ZOMBIE concert [in Fargo, North Dakota] found out they'd been handed tricks instead of treats by the law when sheriff's deputies crashed the party.
The approximately 40 people who answered letters of invitation turned up at The Venue at Playmakers for what they thought would be a festive party before the big concert at the Fargodome.
The Venue event was sponsored by PDL Productions — a bogus firm created by Paul D. Laney, the Cass County sheriff, to help catch some people who had ignored court summons and child support payments or failed to pay fines.
Instead of partying down, attendees were arrested on outstanding warrants. "It was more of a warrant party," Laney said.
"Some actually thought it was pretty funny," he added. Others were upset, with a couple who turned hostile. "I think they were upset with themselves for being had."

Rob Zombie Rethinks Halloween Plans
World Entertainment News Network reports: Rob Zombie is hoping to scale down his family's Halloween festivities next month after more than 1,000 kids trick or treated his home in 2006.
Zombie was shooting the "Halloween" remake last year when the spookiest night of the year came around — and kids from all over his neighborhood decided his home was a must-call.
He recalls, "We live in a neighborhood that is so trick-or-treat-heavy it's mind-boggling. Last year we had over 1,000 trick-or-treaters. We always run out of candy, so last year we had a garbage pail full of candy — that went! Now we keep count because, after 1,000 kids, we were done. It just turned into a job. Kids were coming from all these other neighborhoods, so I gave up. It was just too stressful."
Zombie is convinced his hit new horror film will make masked villain Michael Myers all the rage this year.
He adds, "I dressed up as Michael Myers for Halloween last year and every single person was like, 'Oh shit, Michael Myers.' He's like Ronald McDonald or something. Kids just love Michael Myers."
Rob Zombie Talks About Dimension Movie Deal
MTV.com reports: Apparently $31 million isn't good enough for Rob Zombie. While the director's "Halloween" scared up a whopping figure at the box office over the weekend, he's "not going to do any more 'Halloween' movies, or any more remakes of any kind," he told EW.com. In fact, Zombie isn't even so sure he'll be sticking to horror when it comes to his recent deal with Dimension Films. "I signed up for two more pictures, but not two more 'Halloween' pictures. They're going to be original stuff — and I don't necessarily know that they're going to be related to the horror genre either."
Album Or Movie Next For Rob Zombie?
The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: With his remake of "Halloween" opening on August 31 (and breaking records) both a tour and live album slated for this fall, filmmaker and musician Rob Zombie has a full schedule for the rest of the year. So what comes after that? Zombie has been alternating between records and movies for the last several years, but told The Pulse of Radio he's not really sure what he'll tackle next. "I don't really have any album ideas, I mean those...well, actually we have a little bit," he said. "You know, we were writing some songs on the road for the first time ever so they're kind of floating around. You know, this is the first album I hope that the whole band can be there and really write together. That's exciting 'cause that could be really different, that could bring a whole different vibe to it. And as far as the next movie, you know, I have some ideas I'm working on, but I'm not ready for the next one just yet."
Dimension Films, which is releasing "Halloween", has just signed Zombie to a two-picture deal. According to Variety, Zombie will write and direct both films. There are no further details about the projects or whether they'll be horror outings like Zombie's three movies to-date.
Zombie also told MTV.com's movie blog that his animated flick, "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto", is finally finished. He described the film as a "superhero monster sex comedy" and a "filthy adult movie," adding, "People are just not going to believe this movie exists. It is so strange."
Zombie's first-ever concert album, simply titled "Zombie Live", is scheduled for release on October 23. He'll support OZZY OSBOURNE on a fall tour that will begin sometime in October and last through December.
Rob Zombie's Halloween #1 Movie In America
The following message has been posted via the official Halloween movie myspace:
"THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FANS, HALLOWEEN IS NOW THE #1 MOVIE IN AMERICA!
HALLOWEEN Scares Up $31 Million Debut
from Yahoo! Movies
HALLOWEEN came early and closed Hollywood's strong summer season with a record-breaking Labor Day weekend debut.
Rob Zombie's new take on John Carpenter's 1978 horror sensation "Halloween" slashed its way to a $31 million haul over the four-day weekend, surpassing the $20.1 million gross for 2005's "Transporter 2," which had held the record for best Labor Day opening.
Released by the Weinstein Co. and MGM, "Halloween" also topped the $29 million Labor Day gross for 1999's "The Sixth Sense," which had been the biggest-grossing movie over the holiday. That blockbuster ghost story was in its fifth weekend when Labor Day came around.
Led by "Halloween," Hollywood set a new overall record for Labor Day, with the top 12 movies taking in $119.6 million, surpassing the previous high of $106.1 million in 2003.
1. "Halloween," $31 million.
2. "Superbad," $15.6 million.
3. "Balls of Fury," $13.8 million.
4. "The Bourne Ultimatum," $13.2 million.
5. "Rush Hour 3," $10.4 million.
6. "Mr. Bean's Holiday," $8.1 million.
7. "The Nanny Diaries," $6.4 million.
8. "Death Sentence," $5.2 million.
9. "War," $5.1 million.
10. "Stardust," $3.9 million."
Rob Zombie's Halloween Set To Gross Over $30 Mil
According to SlashFilm.com, Rob Zombie's remake of the 1978 horror classic "Halloween" has exploded for an estimated $10.5 million at the box office in the United States on Friday (August 31), and it's headed for a three-day of $30 million and a spectacular four-day Labor Day weekend of $35.775 million. This will easily be the best three-day opening weekend of the nine-film Michael Myers franchise.
Top three-day opening weekends for Michael Myers movies:
01. "Halloween" (2007) - $30M (projected)
02. "Halloween: H2O" (1998) - $16.1M
03. "Halloween: Resurrection" (2002) - $12.2M
04. "Halloween II" (1981) - $7.4M
05. "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" (1995) - $7.3M
Also as expected, Michael Myers has become the all-time No. 4 grossing "killer" franchise in modern box office history, surpassing Jigsaw from the "Saw" trilogy and trailing only Hannibal Lecter, Jason ("Friday the Thirteenth") and Freddy Krueger.
According to DailyHerald.com, John Carpenter filmed his 1978 indie chiller on a $325,000 budget. The film made roughly $47 million at the domestic box office, and still ranks among the most impressive budget-to-box office ratios in history. Zombie's studio-approved "Halloween" cost about $20 million.
Zombie has scored successes with low-budget slasher flicks "House Of 1,000 Corpses" ($12.6 million in domestic receipts) and "The Devil's Rejects" ($17 million cumulative box office gross).
Rob Zombies Halloween Heading For Labor Day Record
Peter Rosenberg of New York City's Hot 97 conducted a radio interview with Rob Zombie about Rob's remake of the horror classic "Halloween". Watch video footage of the 10-minute chat below.
Despite opening to mostly negative reviews, Zombie's "Halloween" is on track to gross a record-breaking $23-$26 million at the box office in the United States during the four-day Labor Day weekend, according to SlashFilm.com.
Rob Zombie Inks Two Picture Deal With Dimension
According to Variety, Dimension Films has inked a two-picture deal with writer-director Rob Zombie.
Andy Gould, Zombie's longtime manager and producing partner, has boarded both projects as producer.
Per the terms of the deal, Zombie will write and direct both titles, although Dimension didn't release any further details about the projects, including whether they would be horror films.
"We are excited about his fresh take on 'Halloween' and are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with him on future projects," Dimension head Bob Weinstein said. "We admire Rob for all the roles he plays, both as a director and writer."
Zombie said the two-picture deal with Dimension is a "natural step in the evolution of my film career."
Gould, with Spectacle Entertainment Group, produced Zombie's two previous features, "The Devil's Rejects" and "House of 1000 Corpses".
Zombie also directed the upcoming animated picture "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto", featuring Paul Giamatti in the lead voice role. He also helmed one of the fake trailers, "Werewolf Women of the S.S.", featuring Nicolas Cage, that was part of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's "Grindhouse".
