"We can already tell you that the new CD will take off where we left off on The Fire Is Mine, but also include one of the fastest and most intense songs we have ever written. 3-4 songs deep already, and at least a year to polish and make the rest of the record ready for the consumption of your ears.

Unearthing The Metal Underground At ProgPower USA

Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. With the ProgPower USA festival still fresh in my mind, this week I will take on the festival's “power” metal side.

Most people think that the majority of what you see and hear at ProgPower USA is just the bands on stage. Of course, this is true, but there are also many other avenues at the festival in which the metal connoisseur can explore and discover new bands. For one, the merchandise area at "Vinyl" is just about the greatest record store you can ever find in the world (see my first reaction to that in my op/ed piece “The ProgPower USA Experience From The Eyes Of A Newbie” over at this location). However, there are times where this is almost too much to take in, so while you are at the festival its best to make time for many trips to the merch area.

Despite the onslaught of material at the merch area, the first place any attendee should check is the free promotional CD that the festival itself gives out each year (see full track listing at this location). For 2012, the giveaway was expanded to three CD’s and all are chock full of power and progressive acts from all over the world. Now I pride myself on knowing thousands of metal bands, but I was shocked at how many I hadn’t heard of on this triple CD. The bands showcased here all appear on the promotional CD, though did not perform at the festival: Seven Kingdoms (USA), Siren’s Cry (Austria) and Draekon (USA). More...

Pit Stories: The First True Metal Show Experience

Every Tuesday we chat up band members and metal fanatics to get their favorite mosh pit stories from live shows. This week guitarist Camden Cruz from Seven Kingdoms reminisces about his first true crazy pit experience at a metal show where he saw the legendary Jason Suecof:

I remember going to my first legit death metal show. It was Nechrophagist, Arsis, Nuraxis, and Cattle Decap at Will's Pub in Orlando. I was maybe 18 then just getting into the other genres of metal. I was at the front of the stage just eating up all the crazy blast beats and sweeps and it was the first time I ever saw Jason Suecof from Audiohammer. Being a huge Trivium nut back then, It was cool to finally see the guy that recorded them. The first time I saw him he was flying past the opening launching himself and his wheelchair into the sides of the pit. I just remember thinking 'Man, this guy is legit!' haha.

Seven Kingdoms is set to release new album "The Fire is Mine," which was produced by Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Obituary, JOP, Jag Panzer etc), on October 9th, 2012 through Nightmare Records. For more info on Seven Kingdoms, check out the band's Facebook profile here.

Be sure to check back in again next Tuesday as we continue to share more pit stories from metal shows. More...

Seven Kingdoms To Enter The Studio

Florida-based Seven Kingdoms is getting ready to enter Morrisound studios in Tampa, Florida with producer Jim Morris (Iced Earth) to begin recording the follow-up to the band's 2010 self-titled Nightmare Records release. The 11 track album is still untitled, and more info is expected to be released shortly.

Guitarist Camden Cruz commented on the writing process for the new album:

"Fans can expect a more dynamic SEVEN KINGDOMS this time around. We have spent the greater part of a year transposing what we have learned into this new record. It has been since the middle of 2009 since we have written anything together and I really believe that you will hear three more years of experience on this album. It is overall a little bit faster, but not in a thrashy way; it is more in the vein of older school power metal that sometimes seems to be overlooked now days. We have been able to shape something in our 'sound' that will set us apart from our forefathers while still being true to the genre. Expect a twin turbo version of our self titled release. The record is the most challenging material we have physically played to date and it has a lot of guitar work on it. Sabrina has even become more herself with this record as we have all grown as musicians. We aim to bring a polished version of what a Modern Day Power Metal Band should sound like. This should be a record that everyone can enjoy from the brand new listener to the most diehard Power Metal fan with more hooks, more shred, more epicness, More In your face double bass, more literal bass, Just more POWER."

Coinciding with entering the studio, the band has just finished filming its very first official video clip for the new record's opener, "After The Fall." The band's first pro video clip, the story is based on George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones, which is also the story which the band's name is based on. Ironically, the same type of cameras used for filming the HBO show were also used for the band's video. More...

Blind Guardian Conquers Everything In Chicago

After I bought my ticket to the Sacred Worlds and Songs Divine Tour I realized I had never seen Blind Guardian play live, which in turn sparked some questions: would I have to recite Gimli’s entire family tree to get my ticket from will call? Would the audience be acting out the grand tales Blind Guardian spins in real-time? Would I need a suit of armor? A battle axe? Should I ride my war horse or would my lighter travelling mare be better suited to the evening? Fortunately all my questions would be answered by the great bards…

I arrived just as opening act Seven Kingdoms was getting rolling. Hailing from Orlando, Florida these power and speed metal troubadours have the chops and desire to be quite good, even though silky vocalist Sabrina V could use a couple semesters in the Angela Gossow School of Stage Presence for Women. The songs ranged from overwrought to outstanding; set closer “Seven Kingdoms” was the standout as the eponymous tune was Maiden-meets-Yngwie-meets-Doro fun, and Seven Kingdoms was warmly appreciated by the already full house. Seven Kingdoms Splits With Bassist

Florida's Seven Kingdoms has issued the following announcement about parting ways with bassist Miles Neff:

"Seven Kingdoms has parted ways with bassist Miles Neff. It was a mutual agreement on behalf of everyone for the benefit of the band. Miles will be working in his other various projects so be sure to check them out!

"As one royalty steps down, an open throne remains. We would like to welcome new bassist of Seven Kingdoms, Aaron Sluss, to take a seat! Aaron has already shown a drive to perform exceptionally and make the band better as a whole. We are very happy to have him on board and think many good things will come from this decision."

"I've been good friends with the members of Seven Kingdoms for some time now, as well as a fan of the music," Aaron says, "so when Camden asked me to come on board as their new bassist I didn't hesitate. There is a lot of musical talent in this band and I'm very much looking forward working with them on the upcoming Blind Guardian tour and in the time beyond."

Seven Kingdoms Signs To Nightmare Records

Nightmare Records has announced the signing of Florida-based, female-fronted power metallers Seven Kingdoms. The band's upcoming self-titled album will be released on July 13th. According to a press release, Nightmare Records owner Lance King "was impressed with the band's vocal siren, Sabrina Valentine. Her unique, warm and melancholic melodic sense combined with this speedy power metal band should please fans that are into the sound of Blind Guardian, Evanescence, Nightwish, Iced Earth, Withing Temptation, and Epica."

Formed in Deland, Florida in 2007 by Camden Cruz and Bryan Edwards, Seven Kingdoms entered Morrisound Recording in Tampa in August 2007 to record its debut self-financed independent release, "Brothers of the Night," which was lyrically inspired by the literary works of George R. Martin. After playing shows throughout the Southeastern region of the United States the band returned to Morrisound in 2009 to begin work on its self-titled sophomore effort.

The "Seven Kingdoms" track listing is as follows:

1. Prelude
2. Somewhere Far Away
3. The Ones Who Breathe The Flame
4. Open The Gates
5. Venegeance By The Sons Of A King
6. Wolf In Sheep's Clothes
7. A Murder Never Dead
