Nightfall has issued the following announcement about shooting a new music video:
"The track Astron Black is going to be the second video clip from the album Astron Black & the Thirty Tyrants, released on Metal Blade records. Despite the high expectations thanks to Ambassador of Mass video, the Berlin based director Achilleas Gatsopoulos remains calm and confident about the very next one."
"Astron Black gives me the icons and the vision I want for the Ambassador of Mass follow up; the music and lyrical concept are there to inspire and I think we are gonna have yet another interesting outcome," Achilleas noted. "More details about it to come shortly. Until then, keep staring to the sky!"
Nightfall has checked in with the following update about the release of the band's new album and streaming the song "Ipsilon Lyrae" online:
"Hello dudes and thank you for the appreciation. The album is about a month old and feedback is awesome. We have here the 'Epsilon Lyrae' track for you; fast, furious yet dreamy and spacey like a journey to the stars, which we all wish to experience some day.
"Regarding the current status of affairs, the band members are evaluating Euro touring prospects. In any case, this is something to take place not earlier than second half of 2011. We'll keep you posted about developments.
"In the visual field, Achilleas Gatsopoulos, Ambassador of Mass marvelous video director is leading a research for the next video - track to be disclosed soon. Take care and don't forget Nightfall is about art and pain of creation."
Greek act Nightfall has launched the video for the song "Ambassador Of Mass," which can be viewed after the jump. Nightfall singer Efthimis Karadimas comments the clip: "The story depicted is inspired by the Greco-Persian wars in the 5th century BC. The video is purely based on the ancient technique of Shadow Puppet Theatre evolved and widely used in different areas of the world eons ago. Every character, ship, map, etc you see in it has been built from scratch especially for that motion clip. The video has been directed by Achilleas Gatsopoulos, a prominent master of visual arts, based in the city of Berlin. I am sure you haven't seen anything similar around!"
Comments director Achilleas Gatsopoulos: "After our initial talks and meetings with Efthimis, we decided to approach the video in a challenging and unconventional way. We chose to use shadow puppetry and push its boundaries through modern technology in order to create something really unique; something that could best convey the epic scale of our story. Considerable research ensued, and the storyline was constructed according to the structure and lyrics of the song, sprinkled with a touch of mythology, while staying true to the actual historical facts. The design and construction of the puppets were done in collaboration with fine artist Hara Kolaiti, referencing on the one hand the Ancient Greek vases' depictions of greek warriors of the time, and on the other, the numerous detailed reliefs of Xerxes and his warriors in Persepolis.
"In total, more than thirty meticulously detailed puppets and backgrounds were created for the video. These were shot one by one and then composited into scenes digitally. The aim was to take Shadow Puppetry as a traditional medium, and explore its cinematic potential. Thus, scenes were created both in two dimensional space, as well as in three dimensional epic camera shots. The result is a truly original and unconventional music video that best complements Efthimis' musical vision." More...
Greek act Nightfall, in cooperation with Metal Hammer Greece, has launched an online player where you can stream two songs off the new album "Astron Black And The Thirty Tyrants." You can check out the songs "Astron Black" and "Astronomica/Saturnian Moon" at this location. The band commented on the album: "We have worked hard and we've put lots energy and effort in the details of the production. The outcome is massive and believe can attract any metal fan's attention."
The album's artwork was created by Travis Smith (Opeth, Death, Nevermore, Katatonia a.o.), who stated, "The front cover depicts the sea, the grand opposite of the sky-cum-space, and the means we humans are inventing to explore the unexplored. We are part of this universe and we use its planets to navigate, to tune our lives through the 'time' set by their motion, and who knows, may be to escape to some day in the future."
The album was recorded in various places with Soundlodge (Germany) being the main studio. It was produced by Efthimis Karadimas ('Athenian Echoes') and co-produced by Jorg Uken (known from his work with God Dethroned, Dew Scented, and Sinister). "Nightfall proudly announce Travis Smith as the man behind the artwork of the forthcoming opus Astron Black & the Thirty Tyrants! The band has already discussed and shared views with Travis and the outcome is expected to be unique and powerful, reflecting the epic tones and the raw anger of music through the deliberating range of elements Mr. Smith uses in his highly artistic works. His style and his perception is unique; promoting art with art is the key point here and makes us all feel great about it!”

Because the Tyrants were not dead, but only sleeping…
"Nightfall formed in 1991 in Athens and have released seven albums since then. After the temporary fold of their wings for a few moments-cum-years, they enter the scene again with a brand new opus under the magnificent title Astron Black & The Thirty Tyrants!"
Greek gothic black metal band NIGHTFALL has announced their signing to Metal Blade Records. NIGHTFALL, who formed in 1991, will be releasing "Astron Black & The Thirty Tyrants" through Metal Blade Records later this year.
Mainman Efthimis Karadimas has announced the new line-up of NIGHTFALL as follows:
Efthimis Karadimas (vocals)
Evan Hensley (guitars)
Stathis Kassios (keyboards)
Jörg Uken (drums) More...
Keyboardist Stathis Kassios of Greek metal act Nightfall has issued the following update about the recording of the band's new album:
"The timing felt right to end my long lasting relationship with previous sequencers and move on with confidence (thanks also goes to Chris ‘Rektor’ Ntaskas) to Digidesign’s Pro Tools and lay down the keyboards for Astron Black album. The first steps before jumping to the high speed Pro Tools train and its innovative built - in top - notch plug ins, were a bit uncertain as the use of my previous synth sounds of Novation KS - Rack did not quite satisfy the panorama of Efthimis goal for this album and a short period of intense discussions and almost Tyrannical guidance followed, which finally turned out highly creative
"The existential question always haunts keyboard players playing Metal music ‘How do I fit here?’ started troubling my mind, demanding for immediate planning; having a ‘strategy’ as a recording artist is like investing with the least risk taken and expecting the best result. So did I. In respect to the work done by previous keyboard players of the band and to the demands of Nightfall’s diverse and unique music, I had to spend time, a hell of a time actually, and artsy nights listening to the pre - produced guitar tracks recorded by Evan, while trying to figure out the best approach that would carefully follow there after as regard to the use of the sounds and orchestration throughout this prominent album. Greek metallers Nightfall have issued the following statement about the title of their new album:
"As said in previous post Tyrants represent the punishment accrued from our own actions, the allegoric way. But what about the first part of the title, Astron Black? The Astron refers to the bearer of light, the sun, life itself and phos that allows no secret to remain hidden for ever, the hope, the hunter, the ray slashing the monotony of nothing, the effort to breathe to cry to understand to communicate and ultimately to create, the god, the gods, the man!
"The Black refers to the endless, the eternal warm nest either within us or far above, the mystery, the epitome of arcane that asks to be conquered and the challenge that cannot be regretted, the deep, the soul attractor and fears the force’s being made of, the vessel of creation, the goddess, the womb, the woman!
"Astron Black is a fiction persona in human like body shape. Moving throughout centuries, being inspired and eventually driven by its needs and wills, this beast-cum-beauty and vice versa creature moves violently in harmonious circles known as Time. That Aenaon creature symbolizes the opposite natures in universe, the duality that characterizes every form of life and action whose motion generates aural waves, inking the pages of collective subconscious chronicles."
Guitarist Evan Hensley of the Greek metal band Nightfall has issued the following studio update:
"DAY 3: Since we had the sounds already, today went faster. Blazed through two or three of the middle tracks on the record; the recording was going super fast and we were satisfied with the sound and playing. Most amusing of the day was doing 'The Thirty Tyrants' – I winged the solo for the most part on a really low gain amp setting. Sounded weird but we liked it so we kept it! Reminds me of Arabians…"
"DAY 4: Friday had rolled around so we pushed ahead. My other guitar for most of the leads is an Ibanez RG Prestige with replacement pickups – a Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge, and a Breed in the neck. The Evo makes for a punchy lead tone (a la Steve Vai, who helped design it) so I stuck with that pickup through the Rectifier for most of the leads. Almost all of the basic tracks were done by the end of today, including one of my favorites, 'Proxima Centauri!' Best guitar part of the album is at the end of that song, in my opinion." More...
