Midwestern black/death act Wolvhammer is currently deep in the process of laying down the tracks that are to become the band's third LP.
Occupying Hideaway Studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Wolvhammer is currently tracking the follow-up to Profound Lore debut, "The Obsidian Plains," with Dan Jensen at the soundboard.
Stated guitarist Jeff Wilson today on the recording process, "Just waking up on what is day five of recording for LP #3... fortunately for myself not hungover today. We finished up all of the drums/auxiliary percussion last night, which means we'll be knocking out guitars and bass for the next three days or so. Wrapping it up on Wednesday and shipping it off to be mastered. This one is definitely going to come out of left field for some of those familiar with our other material. Be forewarned."
In addition to Wilson, Wolvhammer is comprised of drummer Heath Rave (ex-Across Tundras), bassist Joe Noel (ex-Samothrace, ex-Altar of Plagues, live) vocalist Adam Clemans (Shaidar Logoth) and guitarist Brendan Seven.
Upon its completion, details on the new album's official Summer release date and more will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Blackened death metal outfit Wolvhammer has lost the band's frontman Ryan Mckern. Wolvhammer is currently on tour, traveling down to play at SXSW in Austin, Texas, tonight at the Free Day Party. The vocalist/guitarist was replaced by vocalist Adam Clemans of Iron Thrones and guitarist Jeff Wilson formerly of Nachtmystium.
Ryan Mckern claims the reasons behind the change: “I moved to New Orleans this year as I have been going back and forth from Minneapolis to Louisiana to work with my project The Guilt Of…with Mike IX Williams [EyeHateGod and Arson Anthem vocalist]. Wolvhammer was a great way to be creative while I had to temporarily leave New Orleans in 2009. During my time in the band I wrote two EP’s and an album and did five tours, while commuting to NOLA for The Guilt Of…which got a writeup in Decibel Magazine. When I discussed wanting to do both Wolvhammer and new projects in new Orleans, the band decided to fire me. They are performing all new material and the two songs from “Black Marketeers” that I didn’t write. My picture is still being used in some press for their tour. But I wish them the best but would like to also say I expect new sounds and not what I did for them on previous albums. Fans of Wolvhammer can be on the lookout for some solo black metal songs I have coming out soon.” More...

Ryan Mckern, vocalist and rhythm/lead guitarist of Wolvhammer, instrumentalist and backup vocalist of The Guilt Of… with Mike IX Williams from EyeHateGod, and keyboardist of PonyKiller, as well as many other projects, also leads an active solo career. His dark, bluesy acoustic music shows his great love for southern music. His most recent solo song, however, is a little different from all of that.
Being a big fan of comedy films, he has decided to make a blackened doom metal cover of “Afternoon Delight,” in honor of the movie “Anchorman” in which the song was parodied. Ryan claims, “I wanted to do a parody to show my sense of humor and irony as a metal musician because being stuck in the category of black metal, people are quick to dismiss any personality with the music. This is a fun way of saying ‘Enjoy a good song and make out.’”
“Afternoon Delight,” is available for streaming and download as an MP3 below:

You can hear more of Ryan Mckern's solo material on his MySpace player.
We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Heath Rave of Minneapolis metal band Wolvhammer sends in a short pit story:
This one time, there was this pit. It was as at a rock and roll event showcase. I believe there were as they say in the hood, "hardcore" bands playing. This one very strong person was chasing and punching an invisible ghost. Then he hit me. I'm not invisible.
Wolvhammer released Black "Marketeers of WWIII" on Init Records earlier this year. You can check out some of their music on the band's MySpace page.
Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.
Minnesota metal act Wolvhammer recently inked a deal with Init Records and will be entering Semaphore Studios in Chicago with producer Sanford Parker to record their debut full-length album “The Black Marketeers of World War III” this spring. An East Coast/Southern tour is being planned, as well as European live actions down the line.
Wolvhammer drummer H. R. issued the following statement about the band's formation:
“We wanted to take the things we loved about old school black metal/post-punk/hardcore/doom/rock and infuse that into something truly honest. No bullshit Satanism or sensationalism, just pure honest hatred for religion, capitalism, politics, sheep mentality and typical human behaviour. We wanted to write simple, memorable, and truly hate-filled metal anthems for ourselves and all the other blue collar, working poor, and generally unsatisfied people who are looking for something raw and classic as soundtrack to rise up and fight the status quo around them in any way they see fit to do. Whether you decide to speak up or just completely turn your back on the world, this is for us and all the other people out there that know we've been lied too, and no matter what may have been promised, know that we're all still being lied too. There is no hope.”
