Otep To Film Two New Videos

OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya has issued the following update:

"As I sit here sipping stale coffee and waiting for the bus to pick us up from the hotel, it dawned on me that I haven't written any updates or tour diaries (properly) yet. So here it is, enjoy.

"To begin with, the shows have been amazing. Each time we go out the level of your intensity increases beyond our wildest expectations. Thank you for your support, your belief, and your passion.

"Next, YES! 'The_Ascension' has been released and YES, some places have different versions. You get two extra tracks at Best Buy, Newbury Comics has autographed copies (yes we did them ALL by hand), and iTunes has an additional spoken-word piece (I wrote and recorded) PLUS it includes an exclusive digital booklet specifically designed for iTunes! I've been told the infuriating iTunes error has been remedied and all systems are GO! I just bought the album and downloaded it and it plays just fine.

"We get a lot of messages about where to buy the album, so hopefully this clears it up.

"OH! We are also about to release two new videos created with the visual genius, PR Brown. 'Confrontation' and 'Breed' should be released very soon and, as expected, we are extremely excited about them. 'Confrontation' will have a really unique feature that includes fan involvement but I can't reveal too much more about that or it would ruin the surprise."

OTEP's new album, "The_Ascension", sold 10,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 81 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Produced by Dave Fortman (MUDVAYNE, EVANESCENCE), "The_Ascension" sees the band challenging itself to avoid clichés and classifications and finding a new landscape of sound and vision. "We said 'genre limits and music fads be damned, let's write music that is important to us and that motivates us," explained Shamaya. "I wanted to write songs we believe in and let nothing stop us from building the album we want to make."

Otep Signs To Koch Records, Sets Release Date

KOCH Records has announced a new revenue-sharing partnership with OTEP. The deal is a multi-album, worldwide deal.

The first release under this new agreement is the band's highly anticipated new full-length album, "The Ascension," slated for release on Tuesday, October 30th, 2007. The Ascension is their third full-length album, and the band challenged itself to avoid clichés and classifications and find a new landscape of sound and vision. "We said 'genre limits and music fads be damned, let's write music that is important to us and that motivates us," explains Otep Shamaya, the band's namesake and driving force. "I wanted to write songs we believe in and let nothing stop us from building the album we want to make."

Produced by Dave Fortman (Mudvayne, Evanescence), The Ascension is a "heavy duty masterpiece" as Harder Beat calls it. Metal Edge states, "The Ascension finds the band in top-form." And Blender offers, "Otep's third album mostly stays within the realm of four-horsemen drum attacks, wrist twisting riffage and dark-lit industrial eeriness."

Otep Shamaya adds, "We've been called the renegades of art-rock and it's invigorating and empowering to now have the support of a label that understands and embraces the explosive trends of technology and fortifies our mission of breaking the mold of the mundane. This unification of KOCH and OT3P embraces the new business model for an artist/label partnership that destroys the fossilized thinking that has decimated the music industry. I am excited and honored to be partnering with such an amazingly forward thinking label and look forward to the many conquests and creative successes our collective future now holds."

Look for the band to tour soon in support of The Ascension with band members Brian, Aaron and eVil J. The band just completed a National tour with Static-X this past summer and is set to begin touring in support of the album in the very near future.

Bob Frank, President of KOCH Records states, "OTEP are positioned to be the biggest band in metal. This partnership gives us all the ability to truly work together and make it happen. With Otep Shamaya, Zen Media Group and KOCH metal god Scott Givens on point, we have an unbeatable team."

Scott Givens, VP of Metal adds, "We feel we have perfect vehicle for Otep and all her creative visions. From musical to visual to spoken word we could not be happier that she has chosen Koch to be her partner as she continues her already amazing career."

OTEP is managed by the Zen Media Group (HellYeah, Mudvayne, Bloodsimple).

Static-X Cannibalizes Starland Ballroom

Saturday, May 5, 2007, I saw Static-X for my third time at the Starland Ballroom of Sayreville, NJ. This time was different from all the others because this time, I got to meet Static-X. Well, ok, I’m exaggerating a bit; I got to interview Tony Campos from Static-X, the bass player for those who don’t know. The interview was an amazing opportunity for me and was a great way to start off an awesome show. After the interview, which took place at about 7:00pm, I headed into the venue just as the second opener was finishing. The band’s name was Divinity Destroyed. More...

Otep Post Another New Song Online

California's OTEP has posted another new track, entitled "March of the Martyrs", on its MySpace page. The song comes off the group's long-awaited third full-length album, "The Ascension", due later in the year. The CD was recorded in New Orleans over the course of several months with Grammy-winning producer Dave Fortman (EVANESCENCE, MUDVAYNE).

Otep Dropped By Label In Capitol-Virgin Merger

Less than two weeks before the scheduled release of their new album 'The Ascension', Otep are among the first acts dropped due to the merger between Capitol and Virgin Records. Capitol signed the band in 2000 based solely on their performance during the 2000 edition of Ozzfest.

It was previously announced that "The Ascension" had been delayed and the disc would be released "as soon as corporately possible," which seems to mean when they get signed to a new label now.

Korn Recruits Former Sevendust Guitarist

Launch Radio Networks reports: KORN has recruited guitarist Clint Lowery, formerly of SEVENDUST and more recently with DARK NEW DAY, as the band's touring guitarist for 2007. The group had previously enlisted ex-OTEP axeman Rob Patterson for most of its live dates last year, but guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer said it was time to make a change. "There were some things I was just unhappy with, and I wanted to try to get somebody in that I was comfortable sharing the stage with," he said. "I've always been a SEVENDUST fan, and I was thinking it would be great, if Clint Lowery wasn't doing anything, if he'd be interested in touring with KORN. I called him up, I ran it by him, and I'm real excited. There's been a lot of skepticism about this, but once people see this guy play and sing, all the worry will diminish."

Lowery is the second replacement for original KORN guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, who left the band two years ago to devote his life to Christianity.

Lowery will make his debut with KORN tomorrow (Thursday, March 1) when the band makes its first appearance ever on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno".

KORN's recently taped "Unplugged" performance will premiere on MTV this Friday (March 2), with a CD arriving on March 6. Guests include members of THE CURE as well as EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee. The show is now streaming online at MTV's web site.

KORN is currently recording its eighth studio album and plans to release it this summer. Veteran rock drummer Terry Bozzio is filling in for original KORN drummer David Silveria, who is taking a hiatus from the group.

Otep Reveal Dates For Fan-Generated Tour

Ahead of their upcoming album, Otep have set out on what is said to be the first fan-generated tour. The Los Angeles-based quartet teamed with Eventful--a website that allows users to share event information--to take votes (or demands) for the Ascension Tour, which supports Otep's March 2007 release, "The_Ascension." The US cities with the most votes made it onto the tour itinerary, listed below.

Fans can also help determine the band's set list by voting for songs via cell phone during select shows, according to a press release.

"The_Ascension" is Otep's fourth release, and follows following 2004's "House of Secrets." A selection of songs from the new album is streaming at Otep's MySpace page.

"The strength of this album is sexier and more seductive, but is still just as powerful and emotional as our live shows," the group's Otep Shamaya said in a statement. The band's namesake provides the creative heart and powerful female vocals behind the aggressive metal outfit.

When Otep first formed, they impressed Sharon Osbourne enough to land a spot on the Ozzfest tour in 2001. Based on their live performance at the fest, Capitol records signed them without a demo. Last year, the hard-touring band headlined the Alliance of Defiance tour, sharing the bill with bloodsimple, Candiria and the Autumn Offering.

Here are the currently confirmed Otep tour dates: More...

Otep Frontwoman Offers Update

OTEP frontman and namesake, Otep Shamaya, has released yet another thought provoking message to fans and the general public warning of things to come from the band:

"it has begun."

"the next phase of the disease is set to be unleashed. it has been conspired upon, calculated & composed according to the fluid laws of the deadliest of mental alchemy's. crafted with the blood and bones, mind & soul from the most ancient of creative heresies, the new album has grown like an embryo, fed and nourished, protected within its egg, waiting to crack its shell and be let loose upon the blinded hearts of humanity."

"it was my uncompromising intention this next opus would not be bound by the chains of convention but to build an album that was again uniquely the child of this collective, and to approach the creative process with as much volatile vulnerability, righteous rage, & instinctive separation from modern to ancient to future as humanly possible. i focused the approach to forging this album with the same ferocity all bands do with their 1st albums, with the same fearlessness, the same unending hunger to be an astronaut - to explore, to endure."

"i have never been more proud of anything in my life. ever."

"this will be the 1st communication in a series of transmissions & messages (coded & decoded) from the demented dimensions of my ceaseless mind. here, i will send you more cryptic communique' in hopes of teasing your sense of anticipation to its shivering limits. here, i will update you (the best i can) on any alterations, changes, or improvements to our website & myspace profile, or feed you a feast of guidance as to our next tour, live ritual, videos, album art, or promotional opportunities for those interested in getting their hands dirty."

"yes, change is coming.
an (e)volution is upon us.
it is to be embraced or, by its nature, will obliterate all those that stand in its way."

"thank you for your unending support & for allowing us to share our music & message with you."

"in art & arms,

Otep Shamaya On New Album

Capitol recording group OTEP has entered a New Orleans studio to begin recording their highly anticipated third album. Assisting OTEP in the recording is producer Dave Fortman, known for his work with such bands as MUDVAYNE, EVANESCENCE and SUPERJOINT RITUAL. Along with longtime bassist eViL j, vocalist/songwriter Otep Shamaya is joined in the studio by ex-AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE guitarist Karma Cheema and drummer Brian Wolff (formerly of SYNAPSE). The sessions thus far have seen OTEP fusing the creatively destructive elements from the band's celebrated previous albums — 2002's "Sevas Tra" and 2004's "House of Secrets" — with a startling evolution of both sound and energy, resulting in the band's most blistering collection of songs to date.

"Recording this album has felt like being reborn," says Shamaya. "It's everything I felt from 'Sevas Tra' and everything I experienced during 'House of Secrets'. This album is the best thing we've ever done.”

OTEP kicked off the recordings last month by performing a special Day of Atonement benefit concert at New Orleans' House of Blues. Portions of the proceeds raised by the June 6 show — presented in association with the heavy metal community's philanthropic organization, Slave To The Metal Foundation — were donated to a pair of charitable organizations dedicated to helping rebuild Louisiana communities devastated by last year's Hurricane Katrina disaster. The gig included a rare on-stage visit from producer Fortman, who strapped on a guitar for an electric rendition of VAN HALEN's classic "Eruption".

"It was insane!" declares Otep of the adrenaline-fueled performance. "No one was ready for what we unleashed on them. The crowd was so passionate — the pit was out of control! People were being smashed against the stage, pit bosses were bleeding in the pits, girls were screaming with every ounce of their soul — it was beautiful!"

OTEP's contribution to Unite the United and the Volunteer Center of Southwest Louisiana was specifically earmarked to support bands and crew members currently on the road with the Vans Warped Tour, who recently took a day off to assist in clean-up and rebuilding efforts in Cameron Parish, one of the region's hardest hit areas. In addition, OTEP's donation was matched by both Capitol Records and Slave To The Metal Foundation.

"We couldn't be there in person," Shamaya says, "but working down here in New Orleans we felt it was the least we could do to send some assistance to our friends on the Vans Warped Tour."

Patterson Back w/ Korn After Stint By FF Guitarist

MTV.com reports: It turns out KORN haven't decided to axe guitarist Rob Patterson after all. Patterson, who had previously played with OTEP, was recruited last year to fill in for Brian "Head" Welch as KORN's touring guitarist. But last week, during the European leg of the band's "See You on the Other Side" tour, fans noticed Patterson — who plays offstage during KORN shows — had been replaced by FEAR FACTORY guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers. According to the band's management, that lineup was only temporary. "KORN played three shows with their longtime friend Christian to start the tour in Europe, but Patterson is now back at that position."

Korn Part w/ Touring Guitarist Rob Patterson

KORN have parted ways with touring guitarist Rob Patterson, according to Korn Unleashed. A replacement axeman has already been drafted in and is currently performing with the band on their European tour.

Rob, who was previously the guitarist for OTEP, joined KORN as the backup guitarist in July 2005, filling the slot left vacant by the departure of Brian "Head" Welch, who left the group earlier in the year.

When Rob first joined, the band chose to keep him "hidden" and have him play behind the amplifiers offstage. Since then, Rob has worked his way up in the ranks of the band with him most recently playing onstage in the North American leg of the "See You on the Other Side" world tour earlier this year.

Rob has yet to comment on his depature from KORN, but the header on his MySpace profile currently reads "Farewell, my brothers."

KORN's upcoming DVD, "Live On The Other Side", will receive a big screen premiere on June 19 at more than 100 theatres in 70 markets nationwide. Along with interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and music videos, the disc will feature excerpts from a private show the band played for contest winners and U.S. soldiers on a plane headed to New York from Europe.

The DVD will be in stores on June 20.

KORN will headline the Family Values tour this summer, which begins on July 27 in Virginia Beach. The main stage lineup also features DEFTONES, STONE SOUR, FLYLEAF and DIR EN GREY.
