Otep have posted the new video to their latest single "Crooked Spoons" online. CHeck it out below.
Band leader Otep Shamaya has spoken about what the song means to her: “The video is an exposition of the American way in all of its beautiful contradictions: sex, violence, solidarity, betrayal, lust, power, religion. I was reading Nietzsche when I was writing the early lyrics for this song, and was captured by his ideas on the world being “the will to power” and how humanity has a natural appetite for destruction. I find this song to be seductive, erotic, dangerous, and provocative. It’s one of my favorites.” More...
Arizona's Eyes Set To Kill have announced the dates for their upcoming tour with The Human Abstract and In Fear and Faith. The tour starts June 19th with more dates to be announced shortly.

Otep namesake and frontwoman Otep Shamaya has checked in with this update:
"This tour has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. To be able to connect with so many people (strangers who know nothing, but understand everything) through ART is an event so profound that there are no words to truly articulate and express the experience.
"Most people know that the band and I give 2,000 percent of ourselves on stage and though the medical professionals have warned me to 'take it easy up there' or I risk serious damage to my throat, it is not something I am aware of while lost in the experience of spiritual intercourse.
"Truth be told, I know only two speeds — ALL or NOTHING. More...

As previously reported, KOCH Records recording artist OTEP is set to hit the road, headlining a new tour to promote its latest album, "The Ascension." The Circus of Democracy Tour will be presented by Hot Topic and will also feature Creature Feature, Eyes Set To Kill and KOCH recording artist Anew Revolution.
About naming the tour The Circus of Democracy, frontwoman Otep Shamaya states, “This is one of those amazingly emotional and inspirational seasons that comes rarely (even once) in a lifetime. It can disappear as quickly as it came if we do not reach out (with both hands) and grab it. Our nation is trapped in 2 wars, our economy is slowly sliding into recession, gas prices are obscenely high, the environment is in chaos, the working class is losing ground, our healthcare system is in shambles, but now we, as citizens, have the opportunity to be involved in a life saving effort for our nation. Never before have there been so many people inspired to take ownership of their country. We've seen what happens when citizens do nothing; elections can be stolen, wars can be launched, & oligarchs can swell their pockets with our national treasures. So as part of our mission to help provoke people into action, I've named the tour The Circus of Democracy. We want people informed, inspired, and involved and to remind them they have the power to change the course of history. All around us the energy is swelling. It feels like we are on the verge of a new American Revolution, only this time waged with thought and spirit rather than guns and cannons.”
The band’s new single, “Perfectly Flawed,” will impact at Active/Modern Rock Radio on April 8th. In addition, the new video for the song “Confrontation” debuted on MTV2’s Headbangers’ Ball last weekend.
On May 6th, 2008 ITunes will be releasing two tracks that were previously only available on special versions of "The Ascension." The tracks are “Special Pets” and “Perfectly Flawed.”
To date, OTEP has sold over 400,000 units, and continues its success with "The Ascension."

A 60th anniversary "celebration" for Seton Hall University radio station WSOU will be held at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville NJ on April 18th. Doors open at 6pm and admission is $25. Bands scheduled to perform include Shadows Fall, Unearth, Otep, A Life Once Lost, Bloodsimple, and Five Finger Death Punch.
According to HardDrive Radio, Rob Patterson — former OTEP guitarist who was in the back-up band for KORN's Family Values Tour in 2006 — is replacing KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer on the band's current European trek.
Shaffer left the tour for "personal and family reasons," according to a statement posted by the band at its official web site. Singer Jonathan Davis said, "We fully support Munky's need to be home right now and because we want to come through for all of our European fans, the tour will go on. It's what Munky wants us to do, too. We promise to give it our all every night!"
In a MySpace bulletin, Munky stated about his decision to leave the tour, "If you want to better understand my departure, then listen to the words in the song 'Watching the Wheels' by John Lennon."
Although his departure is not seen as permanent, Shaffer is the third original member of KORN to exit in the last three years. Guitarist Brian "Head" Welch left in early 2005, while drummer David Silveria went on "temporary hiatus" in late 2006 and has yet to return.
Shaffer posted an update online just a few days ago, saying that he had a "big surprise announcement coming very, very soon" about his future plans.
KORN's current touring lineup includes guitarist Shane Gibson and ex-ARMY OF ANYONE drummer Ray Luzier, in addition to remaining original members Davis and bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu.
OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya has issued the following update:
"So here it is. All summed up. Another tour winding down. Minds changed, lives saved. New album infecting the souls of the initiates. Drip by drip / creating stellar stalagmites for the futurists to ponder and study in awe. In our world of performance, all of life's intensitie can be celebrated and all of life's repressions can be abated. Here we recreate all the myths, legends, religions, archetypes, and moralities that have failed us from their cultural sources.
"It's liberating beyond explanation. it must be experienced to be truly realized.
"In performance, we can reinforce our connections, reinstitute the old gods, and repair the wounds and reap the joy of existing. Through art. Through music. In ritual, we celebrate the sexual, intellectual, and spiritual freedom our spirits hunger for.
"I recently found out that I have a polyp on my left vocal cord. Although terrifying, this is quite common for singers and speakers in all genres. I've had several follow ups with the doc and it's been determined that the swelling in the cords and the size of the polyp had reduced and the prospects for recovery look good. The doc has ordered me to a strict regimen of a variety of meds AND complete silence between shows. This silence thing is very difficult for me as I am quite loquacious BUT it was either that OR drop off the tour. I didn't want to do that and let anyone down, so here I am. However, the doctor has informed me that if the polyp doesn't reduce significantly then surgery might be necessary. This uncomfortable news has given new meaning and purpose to the 'silent treatment.' But I'd rather suffer through silence (and writing bad puns) than have a surgeon slicing puffy membranes off my vocal cords.
"So I want to thank everyone for understanding how hard and how serious this is for me. And also thank you for understanding if I don't speak to anyone after a show or don't respond to you verbally. I wish this wasn't happening. But it is. So be it."
"The 'Breed' video is doing very well and i want to thank you guys for all of your kind words and support. we have another video for 'Confrontation' that will be released sometime after the new year. it's a stylized representation of the song but we will also have a few other surprises pertaining to different versions of the video - but all that will be revealed next month.
"'Special Pets' is one of my FAVORITE songs and will be included on future tours and in future performances. This song is ONLY available via the Best Buy version of the album. The trick is — you have to buy the album in store. It is NOT included in the online version. Sooooooo, if you want 'Special Pets' — go to Best Buy and buy it there. We also included another track called 'Necessary Accessories' (another fave of mine) that tells a multi-layered story of trust, betrayal, and revenge and takes a swipe at the credit scams and judging system that fail the people its supposed to protect.
"I never thought I'd be here, at this place in my life, with the opportunities that I have. Without art, I could've easily fallen into many addictions (sexual, narcotic, psychopathic) or I could have just given up and succumbed to the criminal elements that surrounded me. (I think a lot of you can relate.) But thanks to my muses, to our supporters, my family and friends... this is (to quote Jim Morrison) 'the strangest life I have ever known'... and I love it."

Larry Nichols of Philadelphia Gay News recently conducted an interview with OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya.
"There's an old saying that labels are for soup cans," Shamaya said about the band's supposed association with nu-metal. "We're more of a fusion band. That's one of the things I wanted to accomplish when I started the band, to invite people that had many different styles and inspirations and wanted to make really aggressive emotional music. That included having inspirations from everything from punk to grunge to hip-hop to metal to spoken word poetry. Perhaps that's how we avoided it. It was the wrong category for us."
She continued, "There's a lot of metal traditionalists out there that don't consider us metal and that's fine. I don't really consider us metal either."
While there are more women in the metal scene today, openly gay practitioners of metal are few and far between. Shamaya said that being a lesbian hasn't been much of as issue in her career.
"The fact that I like girls doesn't seem to have an effect on anything," she said. "The fact that I find women beautiful doesn't have anything to do with the quality of our work or our songs. I think it would be more of an issue if I was a guy. One of the biggest stereotypes of people who are interested in same-gender relationships is that [people think] I can't find men attractive, which is absolutely false. I just don't have a sexual interest in them. The way our culture views the distinction between a gay man and a gay woman — that would be a bigger issue. I don't think it really matters in the end. Most people don't pay attention to the fact that I like girls. Why would they? I'm not trying to convert anyone. I'm not trying to give them 'the gay.' I'm just up here writing songs."
