Otep Releases New Music Video
Just over one week ago, iconic rockers Otep unleashed their most uncompromising, candid, all-inclusive and controversial assessment of the current residing political regime that they have ever released – the new album "Kult 45." Today, they have released a shocking new music video – pointing a finger at the NRA and their allowance of continued gun violence – for the single "Shelter In Place." The video, directed by Otep and filmed by PR Brown, can be viewed below.
Otep Shamaya says, “The video for “Shelter In Place” challenges the NRA’s irrational claim that “only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun”. It aims the blame of mass murders of our children in school shootings directly on the NRA, not necessarily its members, but the administration who continue to fight for people on Terrorist Watch Lists to own a gun. Why? It’s my belief the more murders that occur, the more money they make from weapons manufacturers and increases in membership which strengthens their ability to be a political power that continues to frighten the Republican owned Congress.
"The number of mass murders of children in schools by gun violence is our national shame yet the Republican owned Congress (and shills for the NRA) have done nothing, not a single thing, to protect our kids. In contrast, when ONE man attempted to detonate a shoe bomb on board a plane in flight, legislation was enacted to protect people from this SINGLE attempt of failed terrorism. Now all of us have to remove our shoes before boarding a flight. All of us have to be searched and x-rayed.
"Enough is enough. Our children deserve better. And their safety and the safety of their teachers are worth fighting for." More...

The Convalescence Kicked Off Otep Tour
Yet another band has run afoul of performing live with Otep on the road.
After that ugliness during the "Civil Unrest" tour a few years back and a handful of instances in the interim, The Convalescence has now been kicked off the "Resistance" tour by Otep.
The Convalescence issued this statement about the situation:
"We will no longer be a part of the remaining dates of 'The Resistance Tour' with Otep. After years spent on the road touring worldwide and never having a problem, this is a first. Otep kicked us off the tour after already loading in for tonight’s event in Pittsburgh. This stemming from an alleged incident that occurred in Michigan two nights previously where claims were made that we sold merchandise during the intro of their set.
"This was not the first time being threatened to remove us from the tour. First happening in Jacksonville, FL after their driver accused us of buying weed from venue staff the night before and went as far as to say we forced a venue runner to drive with him and a kid in the car to pick it up. This was in an attempt to take the heat off the driver himself because he called the police on the band's guitarist after an argument between them that morning.
"In both instances, we were unable to explain or make any attempt to approach the situation since even after 50+ dates as direct support - unless she felt the need to threaten to kick us off the tour and belittle us, we weren’t even allowed in the same room.
"After being told we were not needed on the tour, that we were not helping the attendance, we were simply a time filler and countless other negative comments about us being part of this tour we came to a mutual decision that we could no longer share a stage together.
"We are all about being team players on the road. After going out of our way with things like covering her merch table every night during their set, helping the band with security at understaffed venues, and helping her band and crew load in and out daily. We were met with only disrespect from Otep herself.
"We have no hard feelings towards her hired band and crew but Otep is an absolute nightmare to work with. Again, we apologize to any of our fans that had planned to see us on this tour. Thanks for your continued support and we’ll see you on the road this Fall!" More...

We are your friends, your family, your neighbors, your coworkers, your doctors, nurses, soldiers and fellow Americans. Simply put, this song and this video are about love and equality." More...

Metal Bands React To Trump Presidency
Well, it looks like GWAR's election rigging and Anal Trump's political grindcore couldn't stop the Trump Train.
The rock and metal world have begun to react to the reality of President-Elect Donald Trump this morning, and as expected, it isn't pretty. While a few were ecstatic (I see you there Ted) and a few have been oddly silent (where is Dave Mustaine?), most of the response has been less than positive.
Below is a sampling of musicians across the genre spectrum expressing their thoughts at learning of who ended up winning the electoral college vote last night in the U.S.

"I communed with the moon in the chrome of its light. I kissed the sun at its fiery height. I waged war with the Nightmare Kings, I sinned with the opalescent women in the roaring seas of poetry.
"On a cycloptic mare, hooves made of iron and air, I charged into the inky heart of art and roared at the old gods in the ashes of their ruin, 'You can't look away, WE ARE YOUR MISTAKE. WE... ARE... GENERATION DOOM!'"
