Latest Falconer News
Below is our complete Falconer news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston announced that Andorra's Persefone is the latest band to be cancelled from the 2015 roster, in part due to visa issues. The USCIS has reared its ugly head causing the most issues since 2009 for the annual festival.
Harveston explains: "Unfortunately, this situation is not a simple as the Morgana Lefay cancellation, although the visa process is once again at the root of things. It is no secret now the USCIS center in Vermont is running 4-6 weeks behind their normal schedule assuming there is no RFE (request for evidence). We technically still have three weeks we can wait to receive these visas and then schedule the mandatory interviews. However, Persefone booked a European tour in June with the assumption they would have completed the interviews prior to kicking off their tour. They cannot complete any interviews while on tour. I requested they wait until after the tour and then complete the interviews as there was still possibly time. I was informed the day job of one of the band members prevents him from traveling to Madrid during that time frame, especially with no specific date to schedule currently. Thus, I am left with no choice but to cancel the band now.
"I know these types of explanations are frustrating to you, the fans. There is simply nothing that can be done. In the immortal words of the great American poet, Jimmy Buffett, 'Breathe in..Breathe Out..Move On.' Please know that there is no animosity between the band and myself. I truly understand and empathize with their situation. I wish the band nothing but the best and will continue to support them in the future."
Within hours of the announcement, Canada's Unleash the Archers was added to the bill. The latest roster list is as follows: More...
Legendary hard rock/metal vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman, T.S.O., ex-Yngwie Malmsteen) has been confirmed for the sold-out ProgPower USA festival this year in Atlanta, Georgia, replacing Sweden's Morgan Lefay, who became the latest victim of the USICS Visa System. In a special performance, Jeff will celebrate his entire 30 year career at the festival performing songs from many of his bands along the way, including Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen, Axel Pell Rudi, W.E.T., Rock Star, as well as his solo releases.
Jeff stated: "Having known about the ProgPower USA fest for years, I'm proud to be invited to present the ONLY US show this year with my 30th anniversary show! Me and the boys couldn't be more excited to rock Atlanta!"
Promoter Glenn Harveston added: "I’m honestly still in awe Jeff has graciously stepped up to the plate to help us out at the last minute. I can say I have never had such an amazing and quick conversation with an artist when it comes to booking a band. That is not only a sign of a true professional, but someone wanting to perform for our festival audience. Nothing fires up this crowd more than knowing a legendary name like Jeff Scott Soto actually wants to be in Atlanta. I'd also like to thank Sun Hill Management for the great response time."
Jeff Scott Soto recently took part in the sold out T.S.O./Savatage two stage spectacle at Wacken this past weekend. His latest solo release "Inside the Vertigo," under the monikor Soto, was released by earMusic back in January. More...
The Swedish folk metal pioneers from Falconer have announced the re-issue of their debut album as an "Ultimate Edition" on April 21st, 2015.
The "Ultimate Edition" will be available as a double CD digibook. Disc 2 is a bonus CD that features seven previously unreleased versions and demos of tracks from the album. All tracks on both discs have been remastered by Andy LaRocque for the ideal listening experience.
Guitarist Stefan Weinerhall comments: "Re-releasing our debut album in a remastered version is a great kind of interlude while we do our last gigs as a live band. On top of that we offer our fans to finally hear the demo we did back in 1999, something very few people have heard. We also decided to re-record 3 songs from the debut in acoustic, very scaled down versions. It really got the songs to shine in a new kind of way. So about 35 minutes of unheard Falconer music in both exclusive CD and vinyl versions!"

ProgPower USA has announced the line up for ProgPower XVI, which will include Falconer's final live performance. The festival is scheduled to take place in Atlanta, GA September 11-12 next year. Tickets will go on sale on October 4th through Ticketmaster.
Falconer has released the following statement online: "As the news has been dropped that we won't continue as a live act we take the opportunity to explain, not that it really differs much from the state the band usually is in. The last show will take place at ProgPower USA in 2015.
"As I (Stefan Weinerhall) started Falconer in 1999 it was meant to be a studio project, I have always looked upon myself as a writer more than an artist, the creative work has been the reason and driving force.
"We started doing some shows after a while but never really going all in although the shows themselves was really rewarding, fun and filled with fond memories. It is due to conscious decisions that we have built the band up around our obligations, work schedules and family lives so there is no bitterness to this decision although the decisions were harder to make in the early years when everything started rolling. If we're not a proper live act we're better of as the studio project we were meant to be.
"The inconsistency of doing very few shows with huge gaps between them has meant that we've had to start up the rusty machinery from scratch each time. So now as we all are becoming grumpy old men, we realise that the output don't match the input although the experiences from the past gigs have been great! More...

"After a 8 month complete break from music on the verge of quitting it, I finally returned with a feeling of hunger, power and commitment to the song writing. The goal we all had was to wake up, stir things up a bit and perform at our very best. And so we all did!!" More...

After the release of "Armod" in 2011, the first album entirely sung in Swedish and concentrating on the folk elements in the music, Falconer returns to the power and the glory of its roots. "Black Moon Rising" was recorded at Sonic Train Studios with Andy LaRocque. According to a press release, this album is "the most guitar oriented, riff-filled, and fastest Falconer release to date."

Swedish folk metal outfit Falconer has finished the recordings for 8th album "Black Moon Rising," scheduled for release on June 6th of this year.
The band comments: "So now the mix and mastering is done for Black Moon Rising. After having a break from the studio and then returning my first impression was: 'Was it that much double bass drums?'
"I'm sure this album will compete with Northwind as being my favourite album though they are not alike. The last album entirely in Swedish was really rewarding to do but I must admit it's always great to be back where you feel you belong! Well, enough with the self admiration for this time."
Producer Andy LaRocque simply had the following to say: "This is how Falconer should sound!" Falconer's previous album, "Armod," was released in 2011.
Swedish folk metal standard-bearers Falconer have completed the songwriting for their upcoming eighth album. Guitarist Stefan Weinerhall explains:
"The 8th album 'Black Moon Rising' is finally written. This time we have even made some preproductions of the material to test it out in advance. Some titles are: 'There's a crow on the barrow,' 'Age of runes,' 'Scoundrel and the squire.' We will enter the studio in January and release it in June 2014. As said before, all songs are in English this time after the last album's one-off with only Swedish songs.
"It's for sure the most riff based album in many years and there are certainly some furious moments of brow-raising on the album! If I would sum up the material with two words they would be: Intensity and revitalization.
"We will keep it quite basic with no guest musicians and almost no keyboards to keep it raw, natural and unpretentious. Can't wait to enter the studio and put the finishing touches on the songs!"
Falconer's previous album, "Armod," was released back in 2011.
Falconer guitarist/keyboardist Stefan Weinerhall broke the near two year silence of Swedish metal act Falconer and announced that the band is currently writing new material for the follow up to the band's 2011 all Swedish lyric release "Armod."
In a post on the band's Facebook page last week, Weinerhall stated:
"The Falconer is awake from slumber.
"After the darkest year yet I am once again in writing mood, and what a mood! I guess somethig good really can come out of something bad after all. After rebooting musically from a year of creative vacuum there is a fresh hunger and optimism.
"The 6 songs completed so far are harder and faster and with more of an attitude again, some of the songs sound like taken from the first album. After reading a book about deciphering and reading the language of runestones I really got some lyrical inspiration too!
"I must say that it hasn't been this rewarding and promising for many years to write for a new album, without being carried away too far.The future plan is to concentrate on writing, re-writing and rehearsing for the new album, being sure it is as good as it can and not re-using too many patterns. All songs will be in English this time.
"We are just to begin rehearsing once again after a 2 year break and I can't wait to put Mathias through some tests and find out the speed limit of Karsten.
Hails from Stefan and the falcons!!"
More information is expected shortly.
Metal Injection is hosting the worldwide premiere of the video "By the Roses Grave" from Swedish folk metallers Falconer. "By the Roses Grave (Vid Rosornas Grav)" is taken off the band's brand new studio album "Armod," which features 11 songs sung completely in Swedish and was released earlier this month via Metal Blade Records.
Comments Falconer guitarist Stefan Weinerhall: "The video for By the Roses Grave is re-enacting a story that took place not far from where we live. It gives you a vision of what position you would have 150 years ago if you were just a common man or serf. It surely doesn't look like a metal video in the beginning but then again, when have Falconer ever been about being as metal as possible? The video is once again produced and directed by www.1897.se - they also did the video for Carnival of Disgust."

1. Svarta Änkan
2. Dimmornas Drottning
4. O, Tysta Ensamhet

Swedish folk metallers Falconer have launched their second single "O, tysta ensamhet," taken off their brand new studio album "Armod" via the German Metal Hammer website. You can check out the song by heading over to this location.
Falconer will release the band's seventh studio album "Armod" on June 7th via Metal Blade Records in North America. The CD features 11 songs completely sung in Swedish and four bonus tracks that are English versions of the band members' favorite new songs.
Comments Falconer guitarist Stefan Weinerhall: "The album is embracing the Swedish folk music to a greater extent than before making it sound slightly more down to earth. The music spans from acoustic songs with cello, flute and fiddle to songs with blast beats and really heavy riffing. As said before this is a 'one-time-only' album and does not define the future sound of FALCONER, but it was about time to pay full notice to the influence that has always made us different. Now we have that out of our system!"

Swedish act Falconer has finished recordings for the band's upcoming seventh studio album. 11 tracks in Swedish, of which four will also be included as English versions for the limited 1st edition, have been nailed down and once again the creation was done at King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque's Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden.

Guitarist Stefan Weinerhall of Swedish metal band Falconer has issued the following update about recording a new album:
"Falconer has now begun the recording of its new album Armod at Andy La Rocque's Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden. Our drummer Karsten Larsson, who is the first one to be recorded, thinks this may be his best session ever. The vibe is really awesome!"
According to Weinerhall, the album "will be completely sung in Swedish except for the bonus tracks that will simply be English versions of the best (according to us) new songs. This time we have concentrated on the traditional folk side of our music including more traditional folk songs (the majority of the material is still our own), more fiddles and flutes. This is a way to finally devoting an entire album to the influences and getting that out of our system, so to speak, and to do the thing some have asked for during ten years. This is not the new direction of us but just the sound of THIS album."
Guitarist Stefan Weinerhall of the Swedish metal band FALCONER has issued the following update:
"Recording time is coming up. Most songs for the next FALCONER album are written and rehearsed soon as the studio time is drawing nearer, starting to feel a bit stressed! The album will be mixed in the end of January so I'd guess we're up for a late spring release."

This time we have concentrated on the traditional folk side of our music including more traditional folk songs (the majority of the material is still our own), more fiddles and flutes. Sweden's FALCONER have finished work on their forthcoming new album, "Among Beggars And Thieves," at Andy LaRoque's (KING DIAMOND guitarist) Sonic Train Studio in Sweden.
FALCONER guitarist Stefan Weinerhall has issued the following update:
"Studio time again! Midwinter is just around the corner and that's the time Falconer usually put on their cloaks, tights and funny hats to record songs about fairies, elves and other silly things. Karsten (Larsson), the hairy drummer, has just entered the halls of Sonic Train Studios to pound away on 11 tracks, jolly and full of Jule time spirit. In the fall of 2008 the yet untitled album will be released."
For those of you missing Wacken Open Air, several band performances, interviews, and other footage is being streamed online during festival hours. Keep in mind that Germany is 6 hours ahead of US Eastern Standard Time, so make appropriate adjustments when arranging to watch your favorite band.
