TO-MERA, the U.K.-based dark progressive metal band formed by former WITHOUT FACE vocalist Julie Kiss (photo) and bassist Lee Barrett (ex-EXTREME NOISE TERROR, DISGUST, MUSSOLINI HEADKICK), will support FATES WARNING on November 21 at The Underworld, Camden, England.
In other news, TO-MERA has finished recording the follow-up to last year's "Transcendental" and is currently mixing the effort for a February 18, 2008 release. "We are again working with Brett Caldas-Lima from Tower Studios," says Barrett. "The process of recording, including photos and video clips, was captured in this blog."
Regarding the new CD's musical direction, Barrett said, "All the elements present on the last album have been greatly expanded upon. The music will display a much greater range of moods, tempos and dynamics (ranging from fragile subtlety to epic bombast via everything in between), whilst being simultaneously more sophisticated, yet more melodic and coherent than before. Julie's vocals have become substantially more versatile and powerful. There will be loads more guitar and keyboard (even drum!) solos. But most importantly, we feel this music has a much deeper and more genuine emotional impact to it. We're hoping the finished album will capture that."
FATES WARNING's classic 1988 album "No Exit" will be re-released in Europe on October 8 via Metal Blade Records (except in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, where it will arrive on October 5). The reissue will contain a remastered version of the original album plus outtakes, demos, and a bonus DVD featuring live footage from the "No Exit" world tour 1988 as well as the "making of" the "Silent Cries" and "Anarchy Divine" music videos. SLAVIOR, the new band featuring former FATES WARNING/WARLORD drummer Mark Zonder, has posted the track "Origin" on its MySpace page. The song comes off the group's upcoming self-titled debut album, due in early 2007 via Inside Out Music.
A versatile, melodic hard rock/metal act, SLAVIOR's debut album features elements familiar to Zonder's progressive metal past, but also introduces a wide array influences including reggae, hip-hop, and modern rock. Rounded out by MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP guitarist/keyboardist Wayne Findlay and ex-TRIBE OF GYPSIES singer Gregg Analla, SLAVIOR is a band that has been a long time coming for Zonder.
"For a long, long time, I've always wanted to put something together that was based on the drum parts," stated Zonder. "It is very difficult to take a crazy drum idea and try to apply it to someone else's idea. Most of the time it turns into a mess. If you start with the drum part, and build from there, it seems to work out. With SLAVIOR, the songs are so accessible and groove-oriented, after 15 seconds, anyone should be able to lock into it."
The band had originally inked a deal with Greece's Black Lotus Records, but financial turmoil eventually caused the label to fold, leaving SLAVIOR to re-evaluate matters and come to their initial choice of labels, Inside Out.
"You hear the old saying, 'When one door closes, another opens,' and I think that is the case here," explained Zonder. "Inside Out was always one of our first choices. I've known Jim (Pitulski, Inside Out America President) for 20 years now and to come to his label is certainly something we’re excited about. Even after we inked our deal with Inside Out, we heard from other labels that we were in contact with that congratulated us and said that IO was a classy label. That's always a good thing to hear."
Pitulski commented: "Mark Zonder has been a friend and colleague for many years and I have long admired his incredible skill as a musician. It is with great pleasure and pride that we now welcome Mark and SLAVIOR to the Inside Out family. The release of 'Slavior' represents a unique challenge for Inside Out in that its sound is not necessarily typical of what we've come to be known for as a label. We're looking at this release as an opportunity to push our own boundaries just as SLAVIOR themselves are pushing the boundaries of modern music."
Fates Warning/Warlord drummer Mark Zonder has formed a new band by the name of Slavior. Slavior have recently been signed to Inside Out Music and are scheduled to put out a self-titled debut album early 2007.
Slavior's line-up also features Michael Schenker Group guitarist/keyboardist, Wayne Findlay, and ex-Tribe Of Gypsies singer Gregg Analla.
Zonder stated the following regurading his new band:

Jim Pitlski, President of Inside Out records said the following regurading Slavior's signing withe label:
"Mark Zonder has been a friend and colleague for many years and I have long admired his incredible skill as a musician," comments Pitulski. "It is with great pleasure and pride that we now welcome Mark and Slavior to the Inside Out family. Just For Fun
Comedian/Actor Brian Posehn recently completed work on his first music video.
The video, for POSEHN (Brian’s metal band) track “Metal By Numbers” taken from Brian’s upcoming CD ‘Live In: Nerd Rage’, was shot on location in Los Angeles, CA with the team of director Darren Doane (DEFTONES, AFI), producer Jeremy Jackson and editor Dan Dobi. The video illustrates Brian’s view on today’s metal scene and features appearances from POSEHN members Scott Ian (ANTHRAX / DAMNOCRACY) and Joey Vera (ARMORED SAINT/FATES WARNING).
The video can be viewed exclusively at Brian’s MySpace page as part of Brian's stint as the featured comedian this week (7/3 – 7/9/06) on MySpace Comedy.
'Live In: Nerd Rage' reveals the hilarious observations of a self-professed nerd and life-long fan of heavy metal. Recorded as part of Brian's appearances on the Comedians of Comedy tour, and including a sketch with Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show), 'Live In: Nerd Rage' is Brian at his funniest. 'Live In: Nerd Rage' will be released on July 11th in North America, with an international release to follow in August.
Frank Aresti (ex-Fates Warning) has added a solo for a song on the new Eidolon album called "Parable." The solo is placed in a solo section where Eidolon/Megadeth guitarist Glen Drover and Frank will trade off solos.
Bassist extraordinaire Joey Vera (ARMORED SAINT, FATES WARNING, ANTHRAX) has posted the following message on his official web site:
"Coming up in a few days, I leave for a one-off show in Amsterdam (The Netherlands that is) with FATES WARNING. We're headlining the Headway Festival there on April 3rd. We've got Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER) sitting in on drums for us this time. I'm really looking forward to it. We've played with Mike before when we did a song with him every night during our set on the 2003 DREAM THEATER /QUEENSRŸCHE / FATES WARNING tour. But this will be our first 90 minute set with him. It should be killer. I'm not sure who else is on the bill except for a band from the early '90s called LAST CRACK. Remember them?
"I've been home for about 2 weeks now since my last haul with FATES and ANTHRAX. Here's a (not so) brief synopsis: More...

Fates Warning will be out on the road in support of their latest album, "FWX", which was released back in October of 2004 through Metal Blade Records.
Sensory Records recording artists Redemption are going to be utilizing the servives of "an amazing producer" during the mixing process for their new album, tentatively titled "The Fullness of Time", according to a posting on their web site. "Got to keep in a secret for a few more weeks but Bernie [Versailles, guitar] and I are getting on a plane to Europe in 9 days to go get it done," Nicolas van Dyk, Redemption's primary songwriter and guitarist/keyboardist, writes. "This is going to be a great-sounding CD and I can't wait for you all to hear it!" An eary 2005 release is expected.
As previously reported, Redemption recently announced that Ray Alder, legendary vocalist of progressive metal icons Fates Warning and of his solo project Engine, has become the group's new vocalist. Alder was a guest musician for one track on Redemption's self-titled debut (released on Sensory in 2003), and he joined the group on-stage at Atlanta's ProgPower festival in September of that year to perform this song. Alder and van Dyk also collaborated previously on a track on the first Engine CD.
Ray Alder from Fates Warning will be on the Chaos metal show on Indie 103.1 (L.A.) Wednesday, September 29th from 11pm to 12am to promote the new "FWX" album. If you live in the Los Angeles area please tune in and check it out.
You can also listen to the interview via the internet here.
Sensory Records recording artists Redemption have announced that Ray Alder, legendary vocalist of progressive metal icons Fates Warning and of his solo project ENGINE, has become the group's new vocalist. He is currently recording vocal tracks for Redemption's second CD, tentatively titled "The Fullness of Time", scheduled for release in early 2005.
"I'm incredibly excited that Ray is our singer," commented Nicolas van Dyk, Redemption's primary songwriter and guitarist/keyboardist. "He's always been my favorite vocalist in progressive metal and his voice sounds amazing with the new Redemption material."
Alder and van Dyk have been friends for some time. Alder was a guest musician for one track on Redemption's self-titled debut (released on Sensory in 2003), and he joined the group on-stage at Atlanta's ProgPower festival in September of that year to perform this song. The two also collaborated previously on a track on the first Engine CD.
When writing began for the upcoming Redemption CD, the band had planned to work with Corey Brown (Magnitude 9, Section XVI) who had stepped in to sing for the band at ProgPower. However, that changed when Alder heard the new material.
"When I heard the new songs that Nick had written, they immediately struck me as really heavy, and progressive but more focused at the same time," said Alder. "Not to take anything away from the debut, but this CD is a big step forward. They're just great, heavy songs and I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of."
"I want to emphasize, Corey Brown is a talented friend and a true professional," said van Dyk. "The decision to work with Ray is in no way indicative of any discord with Corey, whose performance with us in Atlanta was awesome and who possesses an amazing voice. I was fully prepared to work with Corey and I would have been very happy with him in the band. But there was no way I was going to turn down the chance to have Ray in Redemption. It's a unique opportunity to work and perform with a vocal legend, as well as a close friend. I think Ray's voice will take Redemption to a truly special level."
Alder, of course, remains the vocalist for Fates Warning (who are releasing their new CD, "FWX", on October 5) and Engine. "Ray has a fair amount on his plate, and before we began work on Redemption together we had to make certain that his ongoing commitments to Fates Warning and Engine would still allow him to commit himself to Redemption as well," explained van Dyk. "I didn't just want to hire a session vocalist. Redemption is a band. Ray and I are comfortable that Redemption will fit into his schedule, both for recording and live performance."
Recording for the new CD, other than vocals, is nearly completed. "It's significantly heavier than the previous CD, but it's very melodic at the same time," said van Dyk. "It's still quite progressive but I think it's more song-oriented and the songwriting, both musically and lyrically, is much more mature than our debut. I'm really looking forward to people’s reactions — I think it's going to surprise a lot of people. We'll be letting people know a bit more about the CD, including its production details and track information, as the release date gets a bit closer."
In addition to van Dyk and Alder, Redemption's other members are guitarist Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel, Engine), and bassist James Sherwood and drummer Chris Quirarte (both of Prymary). Versailles has been a member of the band since its inception, while Sherwood and Quirarte joined for last year's ProgPower performance and have been members since that time.
The group's new CD will be released by Sensory Records, a division of The Laser's Edge.
