Greek melodic metal sensation FIREWIND will release its successor to 2006’s Allegiance album on March 24th, 2008.
Guitarist Gus G. checks in with details on the programmatically entitled The Premonition:
“The Premonition is a strong title and our drummer Mark came up with the idea. A premonition means feeling something is about to happen. We’ve worked hard the past two years and we just have a premonition that 2008 is going to be a very fun and exciting year for us as we plan to visit again many places and countries and hope to play for our fans as well as make new ones!
Of course, you can interpret the album title in any way you want. Some people might read our lyrics and see that at times they’re about the course of mankind and the so-called “end of days”. So maybe this could be taken also as a warning or omen, because it’s definitely something that has been on our minds lately.
I feel that the new Firewind album is yet another step up in our career – musically speaking. Once again we aimed for a highly variable effort as I really don’t like those albums where you’ve listened to the first song and it’s like you heard them all! This doesn’t happen on a Firewind album and certainly not on the new one!
Regarding touring, we’ll start off in Europe right after the album’s release and we’ll spend about five weeks on the road with KAMELOT (we recently toured Japan with them and it was just fantastic!). We plan to return to the US right after that, but no dates are confirmed yet. Of course, a Japan and Pan-Asian tour is being planned currently as well as several appearances at summer festivals."
The artwork for The Premonition (pictured) was created by Brazilian artist Gustavo Sazes (www.abstrata.net).
Arch Enemy guitarist Michael Amott will be doing signings at this year's NAMM show, set to take place in Anaheim, CA on January 18-19.
Michael Amott comments: “I’ll be at NAMM doing signings for ESP guitars and RANDALL amplifiers... There is new awesome ‘Michael Amott signature’ gear coming in 2008 with both ESP and RANDALL, I am extremely excited about this! These amazing weapons of mass destruction will be on display at the NAMM show of course – if you’re at NAMM, come and check it out.
"The new Ninja V's will be available as both ESP and LTD versions. Fans have seen me playing the prototypes of these guitars live over the last few months with Arch Enemy. A lot of you have been asking me about them... Well, here they are - in all their glory!
"This is my third year in a row being invited to come out and hang in California and be a part of it all. I’d like thank ESP and RANDALL for supporting me and making it all happen”.
Jan. 18 3-4PM @ RANDALL Booth
With Gus G (Firewind), Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory), Dan Donegan (Disturbed) and George Lynch
Jan. 19 12-1:30PM @ ESP Booth
With Rob Arnold and Matt DeVries (Chimaira), Jon Donais (Shadows Fall) and Will Adler (Lamb of God)
FIREWIND's mastermind/guitarist Gus G. has issued the following update:
"Well, most of the recordings for the new album are done by now! We've been locked at Sweden's Studio Fredman for about a month now and I'm super-excited with the way things are shaping up! Killer sounds on the drums, guitars and bass. We've recorded 12 original songs and a few covers which will be revealed in time.
"I also want to set something straight since some people seem to be confused: Apollo is still in the band! Yes, he is singing on the new album (currently finishing up his vocal tracks — which in my opinion are his best performances ever!) and yes, he is going back on the road with us in 2008.
"Now onto something different and very special: Since we have gotten such a great response on our world tour 2006-2007 and have received so much love from our fans, we would like to give back by doing something special for them: We will play a one and only exclusive show in our hometown (Thessaloniki, Greece) on Saturday January 12th, 2008 at Principal Club Theatre, where we will perform our full upcoming brand new album LIVE! So consider this as a very special event since we don't plan on doing this again. Of course we'll play an extra set of other older material in addition to the new songs. What makes this even cooler is that we'll record and film this event for future DVD use, so we hope to see all our metal brothers and sisters at this special event!
"For those of you that don't live in Greece and plan to travel to see this show, please email us at email@example.com and let us know of your participation. We'll get back to you and provide info on how to get to the venue, hotels, etc."
Songtitles set to appear on the new FIREWIND CD include "Remembered", "Life Foreclosed", "The Silent Code", "Mercenary Man", "My Loneliness", "Head Up High"."
FIREWIND will team up with KAMELOT and VISIONS OF ATLANTIS for a European tour in April/May 2008.
FIREWIND's 2002 debut album, "Between Heaven & Hell", was re-released in Japan on October 10 via King Records. The reissue includes new artwork, liner notes from guitarist Gus G. and producer David T. Chastain as well as two bonus tracks. Originally released with different cover artwork in Japan, this time the album includes the European cover which was created by legendary artist Kristian Wahlin (KING DIAMOND, DISSECTION, AT THE GATES)
FIREWIND's latest single, "Breaking the Silence" (featuring Tara Teresa), entered the national single chart in Greece at position No. 19 and moved up to No. 16 in its second week. The video for the single's title cut was directed by Patric Ullaeus (IN FLAMES, DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL).
Frontiers Records will release the debut album from Markus Grosskopf's (HELLOWEEN) BASSINVADERS, entitled "Hellbassbeaters", on January 25, 2008.
BASSINVADERS was a creation of Markus' while sitting in a bar and enjoying a few drinks. It was there that he got inspired to produce a heavy rock record without any guitars at all. He presented this concept in early 2007 to Frontiers Records, which was intrigued by the idea and gave it a go.
According to a press release, "Hellbassbeaters" contains all the basic elements of a heavy rock record "and so much more. You got the strong vocals, rhythmic bass, intoxicating drums and even bass and twin bass solo parts. What you hear is what you get: 100% genuine heavy rock record with absolutely no discordant guitar note on it at all." To guarantee a great variety of different influences, Markus invited some well-known singing bass players from the German metal scene to join the band, including DESTRUCTION's Schmier, SODOM's frontman Tom Angelripper and RAGE's Peavy. He also managed to get a few of his bass heroes to lay down solos on some of the tracks, including Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo and DD Verni.
Guest musicians include:
Billy Sheehan (STEVE VAI, MR. BIG, DAVID LEE ROTH)
Rudy Sarzo (DIO, OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE, QUIET RIOT)
Lee Rocker (STRAY CATS)

Gus G., mastermind of Greek melodic metal sensation FIREWIND, has issued the following update:
"Looking back on 2007 now I can say that I'm very happy with what we've accomplished with FIREWIND. We toured heavily for the 'Allegiance' album and our world tour passed through 22 countries and we did about 100 shows to promote it. We had great times touring with some of metal's premier bands such as DRAGONFORCE, ALL THAT REMAINS, ANGRA, KAMELOT, SONATA ARCTICA, etc. through Europe, UK, North America and Japan. We even got to play in Tunisia for the first time!"
"After a successful Japan tour this October we're finally wrapping up our 'World Allegiance' tour with two final festivals in Europe — one in Spain (Senderos Del Rock) and one in Denmark (ProgPower Scandinavia)." More...
Classic NWOBHM act REKUIEM (formerly known as REQUIEM) check in with the following update:
"Rekuiem will be joined by special guest vocalist Chitral "Chity" Somapala (ex-FIREWIND) for the live dates to end 2007.
"Chity" and Rekuiem are very excited to be working together and are looking forward very much to the two dates so far confirmed: Wednesday, November 14th - Sheldon Marquee - Birmingham, England and Friday, November 16th - JBs - Dudley, West Midlands, England (supporting GOTTHARD).

FIREWIND guitarist Gus G. has posted this message on the band's official website:
"Hello metalheads! The third part of our 'World Allegiance' tour came to an end with four very successful shows in Japan! It felt so good going back there exactly one year after our performance at Loud Park festival. This has been our longest Japan tour so far, visiting four major cities - Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Yokohama. All venues were good and packed with loud Japanese metalheads - exactly the way we like it!
We have some great memories of this tour both onstage and offstage. We were treated excellent by the people of Avex and Creative man (promoters), our Japanese crew was top notch and everything was on time and perfectly in place. That's the way the Japanese people work. Even though I've been there eight times so far, I'm still amazed by their professionalism.
On our off day we had the chance to do lots of promotion for various radios, TV interviews and of course the prestigious magazines Burrn! and Young Guitar whom I also shot two instructional DVDs for.
Domo Arigato to Avex company, Kaz & King Records, Nozue, Yuka, A2 and the whole crew, KAMELOT and their crew for being super cool to us - it was a pleasure sharing the stage with you guys!
Also, we'd like to thank the German Metal God, Henning Basse (METALIUM) for taking care of the vocal duties the past months and giving everything on stage with us each night. You're a friend for life and we already miss you!
Last but not least, thanks to all our fans in the Land of the Rising Sun for their never ending support and love! We'll be back soon!"

The organizers of the ProgPower USA festival have announced a surprise headline set for this year's sold-out edition of the internationally renowned festival. Saturday night (October 6) will now finish with an all-star cover set featuring vocalists from both the showcase and the festival. Each vocalist will be given the opportunity to perform 1-2 cover songs of their choice with the music being provided by the members of PAGAN'S MIND. Additional guests will join them throughout the set.
"The fans have made this festival a success and it's time to give something back to them," said ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston. "I wanted to announce this after the sell-out as a reward instead of in advance as an incentive. It's going to be one hell of a party on stage."
As a result of the additional performance, there has been a major change in the schedule and door times. "I had to shake things up quite a bit to make this work," Harveston explained. "However, the fans can relax knowing that not one band will have a single minute cut from their previously announced set lengths."
