Below is our complete Devin Townsend Project news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Earlier this year, Devin Townsend Project played a sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall venue, bringing the story of Ziltoid to life on stage, as well as playing tracks from across his back catalogue.
This larger-than-life evening was captured on film and is set to be released on November 13, 2015. Shot on 15 high-definition cameras, it was directed by Paul M Green (Devin Townsend, Opeth, BB King, Steve Hackett) and features special guests such as Dominique Lenore Persi (Stolen Babies), Chris Jericho (world-famous wrestler and singer of US band Fozzy) and Jean Savoie, with video narration by Bill Courage, as well as 12 singers & actors as cast and choir.
Townsend states: “The show at The Royal Albert Hall was a great experience. To be able to make artistic expression rooted in creativity and then to be able to articulate it in these sorts of ways- at this sort of venue- was pretty awesome. The whole thing was quite a challenge, but ultimately it worked and we were all very satisfied with it. I completely appreciate the support that has allowed this to happen from the audience, and I thank my team and Inside Out Records for busting ass to make this DVD a reality. I think if you enjoy what I do, you'll really dig it. Thank you so much for the opportunity!”
The release will arrive on several formats including an artbook of 44 pages including the entire concert as well as extensive behind-the-scenes bonus footage and a full documentary, pressed on 3 CDs, 2 DVDs and a Blu-Ray disc, as a special edition digipak with 3 CDs and a DVD and as a Blu-Ray including the entire show and bonus material. There’s a bunch of events coming up, and one of them that I'm extremely proud to announce is a European headlining tour with support from the incredible Periphery and the insane Shining!

"One of the greatest things about doing this for as long as I have is that we get to do these sorts of awesome events. Insense will join Devin Townsend Project dates as support in Scandinavia this March, with tickets available at this location. Dates are as follows:
Mar 10 Debaser Medis – Stockholm, Sweden
Mar 11 KB – Malmö, Sweden
Mar 13 Pakkahuone – Tampere, Finland
Mar 14 The Circus – Helsinki, Finland
Indie Recordings also comments:
"Insense is something of a well-kept secret in the Norwegian metal scene. While the country is renowned for its black metal, Insense has steered away anything remotely close to corpse paint and Satan worshiping in monochrome forests. Their sound is all their own. They’ve been compared to everything from Machine Head to Dillinger Escape Plan, from Pantera to Strapping Young Lad, from Slipknot to Meshuggah. The truth is, while of course being huge fans of all the aforementioned, Insense doesn’t sound like any of them.
"Insense started out as a technical metal outfit in 1999 and has slowly but surely refined their sound, via a very aggressive second record, to the more modern Insense sound of technically impressive riffs and melodic desperation. With ever growing confidence, Insense presents De:Evolution, the fifth installment with 14 tracks of desperate aggression."
Devin Townsend recently recorded a performance video for EMG TV to showcase his EMG pickups with support from Fractal Audio and D'Addario. Check out the "Kingdom" performance video below.
In other recent news, Devin Towsend Project's "The Retinal Circus" DVD was named our top metal DVD of the year. Read the full 2013 year-end award article at this location.
We come now to the end of a year overflowing with metallic fury from bands new and old, regrouped and long-running, and covering just about every imaginable sub-genre.
More than anything 2013 was characterized by returns of bands long dormant, with highlights for fans easily coming from the reemergence of Carcass, Gorguts, Summoning, Extol, and Black Sabbath.
While there were some notable critical flops (“Super Collider” and the self-titled “Satyricon” come to mind), this year featured an overall satisfying lineup of good, great, and even fantastic albums from across the metal spectrum. That’s a boon for metal heads, but it also makes it harder for us to easily nail down clear winners in our categories as votes come in from our diverse staff of contributors positioned around the globe.
Long running staples of the European scene made their marks as usual in 2013, with new albums from Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Stratovarius, and Dark Tranquillity. Interestingly, the U.S. wasn’t left behind as much this year, with tunes out from Skeletonwitch, Subrosa, Toxic Holocaust, Vattnet Viskar, ASG, Castevet, Inter Arma, and more.
Just because Testament wasn’t around didn’t mean thrash slouched off either, with Sodom, Onslaught, Evile, and Death Angel bringing out the big guns. The experimental and avant-garde side saw weirdly awesome releases from Oranssi Pazazu, Code, and Tribulation, while unexpectedly different offerings arrived courtesy of Watain and Darkthrone. Death metal meanwhile bore witness to newly unleashed material from the likes of Suffocation, Deicide, Autopsy, Hail of Bullets, Hypocrisy, and Six Feet Under. More...

"So closing in on 8 months of work, we're almost finished with the 'Retinal Circus'! It's been a huge amount of work for everyone, from the show, down to DVD & Blu-ray authoring, artwork, logistics...(not to mention the show itself!) but we're almost there, and when watched in its entirety, it's really a heck of an experience!
"To tie you over until it's out, here's a clip of the song 'Grace'...It's out of context obviously, but hopefully gives you a vague idea of what's about to come out. It's been a ton of work for everybody and we're really quite proud of it...When the final products have been produced, we'll let you know! Fun! Whew!!!"
