You can check out the lyric video for "Rejoice" below, courtesy of Loudwire.com. Devin had this to say about the track:

"Hey guys, here's the first song from Sky Blue, it's called Rejoice. The album in general is about fighting through the ugly moments, and I think this song kind of summarizes it. Z2 was a very challenging record, but after intense personal scrutiny, I feel very proud. It's the most accurate representation of a challenging time. Rejoice! :) Thanks for the support guys." Devin Towsend Announces Tour With Periphery

Following the announcement of the new Devin Townsend Project album "Z²" and the subsequent lightning-fast sell out of London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall venue for his show on the 13th of April next year, the band can now reveal an extensive run of European shows for 2015, which will include support from Periphery and Shining.

Devin had this to say: "Now that the recording and mixing for Z2 is finished, it’s time to gear up for touring again! There’s a bunch of events coming up, and one of them that I'm extremely proud to announce is a European headlining tour with support from the incredible Periphery and the insane Shining!

"That’s a heck of a line-up I think, each band is doing something unique from each other, yet are really well defined. It will be an opportunity for us to explore our back catalog as well as the Z2 albums, Sky Blue and Dark Matters (from the upcoming double album, Z2).

"One of the greatest things about doing this for as long as I have is that we get to do these sorts of awesome events. I can’t even begin to express how honored I am to share the stage with these incredible bands, and to have such overwhelming support from the audience lately. It’s honestly just an absolute pleasure to do this.

"So it is with great pride I invite you to the show! Hopefully we come near you, let’s do this!" More...

Insense To Support Devin Townsend Project

Insense will join Devin Townsend Project dates as support in Scandinavia this March, with tickets available at this location. Dates are as follows:

Mar 10 Debaser Medis – Stockholm, Sweden
Mar 11 KB – Malmö, Sweden
Mar 13 Pakkahuone – Tampere, Finland
Mar 14 The Circus – Helsinki, Finland

Indie Recordings also comments:

"Insense is something of a well-kept secret in the Norwegian metal scene. While the country is renowned for its black metal, Insense has steered away anything remotely close to corpse paint and Satan worshiping in monochrome forests. Their sound is all their own. They’ve been compared to everything from Machine Head to Dillinger Escape Plan, from Pantera to Strapping Young Lad, from Slipknot to Meshuggah. The truth is, while of course being huge fans of all the aforementioned, Insense doesn’t sound like any of them.

"Insense started out as a technical metal outfit in 1999 and has slowly but surely refined their sound, via a very aggressive second record, to the more modern Insense sound of technically impressive riffs and melodic desperation. With ever growing confidence, Insense presents De:Evolution, the fifth installment with 14 tracks of desperate aggression."

Metalunderground.com's Best Of 2013 Awards

We come now to the end of a year overflowing with metallic fury from bands new and old, regrouped and long-running, and covering just about every imaginable sub-genre.

More than anything 2013 was characterized by returns of bands long dormant, with highlights for fans easily coming from the reemergence of Carcass, Gorguts, Summoning, Extol, and Black Sabbath.

While there were some notable critical flops (“Super Collider” and the self-titled “Satyricon” come to mind), this year featured an overall satisfying lineup of good, great, and even fantastic albums from across the metal spectrum. That’s a boon for metal heads, but it also makes it harder for us to easily nail down clear winners in our categories as votes come in from our diverse staff of contributors positioned around the globe.

Long running staples of the European scene made their marks as usual in 2013, with new albums from Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Stratovarius, and Dark Tranquillity. Interestingly, the U.S. wasn’t left behind as much this year, with tunes out from Skeletonwitch, Subrosa, Toxic Holocaust, Vattnet Viskar, ASG, Castevet, Inter Arma, and more.

Just because Testament wasn’t around didn’t mean thrash slouched off either, with Sodom, Onslaught, Evile, and Death Angel bringing out the big guns. The experimental and avant-garde side saw weirdly awesome releases from Oranssi Pazazu, Code, and Tribulation, while unexpectedly different offerings arrived courtesy of Watain and Darkthrone. Death metal meanwhile bore witness to newly unleashed material from the likes of Suffocation, Deicide, Autopsy, Hail of Bullets, Hypocrisy, and Six Feet Under. More...

Metalunderground.com's Best Of 2012 Awards

Metalunderground.com wishes all our regulars and newcomers a happy new year as we look forward to a 2013 full of improvements and hopefully even more awesome metal than the preceding year. The 2011 “best of the year” piece ended up so late it actually became an April Fool’s joke (with “Lulu” of course winning the top album spot), but this time around we’re going to dive right into a retrospective of the last 365 days of metal and how they impacted the scene at large.

Recent years have been fairly uneven for metal, punctuated by stellar releases surrounded by flops and mediocre albums from the big names. We’ve seen the continuing sad decline of some of the oldest and biggest names in metal in the past few years, but 2012 shook that up and was a year where the underground earned a greater focus.

2012 was a highly productive year for several prominent sub-genres (power, prog, and djent all saw a horde of releases from acts both known and unknown), but a little more sparse for others (there were only a handful of symphonic black metal releases by established bands.) Considering the sheer number of albums, EPs, singles, demos, etc. that see the light of day per year, we’re inevitably going to end up overlooking some that were definitely good releases, so please accept our apologies in advance if a band you dig didn’t get a nod. We love all forms of metal, and there’s just no way to cover everything that happened in 2012 in a single article.

While 2012 was an off-year on the release schedule for some of the highest profile acts, there were still plenty of bands in the upper echelons that dropped new material. Metaldom saw albums hit from the likes of Between the Buried and Me, Therion, The Sword, Dethklok, Cradle of Filth, Kamelot, Enslaved, Katatonia, Korpiklaani, Borknagar, and Lacuna Coil. Obviously that alone covers a huge range of sound, and we also got to hear some highly anticipated new material from God Seed, Ministry, Wintersun, Baroness, Meshuggah, Woods of Ypres, and Ex Deo. Some of those ended up being worth the hype, while others didn’t meet the high level of expectation, and below you’ll see how our contributors voted on last year’s releases.

Before we jump into the different categories and winners, I’d like to mention how this was such a good year for bands that mash up genres. Fans of different styles colliding were in for a treat as cross-genre experimentation seems to be becoming more of the norm these days. The Wretched End blended together death and thrash, Diablo Swing Orchestra worked swing music into metal, Kontrust melds pop and metal, Stealing Axion worked through just about every sub-genre that exists, and Nachtblut blurred the lines between industrial and symphonic black metal. It seems like this trend is running strong and cross pollination is going to widen metal fan’s musical horizons and introduce mainstream music enthusiasts into the more extreme stuff. More...
