Defiled Unveils "Obsession" Video

Though longtime masters of the vile art known as death metal, Defiled aren’t relics or custodians for the old-school. Since 1992, the living legends have shared the stage with Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Cannibal Corpse and Incantation, but their upcoming ninth album continues to take the genre in dark but unexpected directions. On "Altered State," they deliver a dizzying blast of death metal straight from the future.

Today, Defiled is releasing a music video for the second advanced single from "Altered State." With its slippery groove, "Obsession" turns more heads than the occult.

"'Altered State' is an expansion of our last two albums, 'The Highest Level' and 'Horror Beyond Horror,'" Defiled guitarist and founding member Yusuke Sumita says. "It centers on altered states of human consciousness. Each song explores different forms of extreme psychology or mental manipulation."

"‘Obsession’ delves into the fascinating story of Jack Parsons," Sumita continues. "He was a pioneer of rocket fuel technology for NASA but also deeply immersed in the occultism of Aleister Crowley. The dramatic and tragic nature of his explosive demise felt deeply metaphorical to me. It compelled me to weave the intensity of his story into the lyrics of this song. I hope you find it a compelling journey!" More...

Defiled To Release New Album In June

Having been active practitioners since 1992, Defiled are masters of the vile art known as death metal. The Tokyo legends have shared the stage with Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Cannibal Corpse and Incantation. However, these grizzled veterans are neither relics nor custodians for the old-school. Their upcoming new album, "Altered State," unleashes a dizzying blast of death metal straight from the future.

Defiled are now announcing their new album, "Altered State," with a music video for its lead single. By continuing to take the genre in unexpected directions, on "Portal," the band unlocks a head-banging new dimension.

"'Altered State' is an expansion of our last two albums, 'The Highest Level' and 'Horror Beyond Horror'," Defiled founding member and guitarist Yusuke Sumita says. "Like many other bands, our musical roots are heavily influenced by early ‘90s death metal and ‘80s thrash and hardcore, however our interpretation is different and has branched off from the current scene. On Altered State, there are many catchy hooks, but tricky progressive rhythms and song structures can be found as well. The album may not be understandable after a few listens but it taps into a blind spot that many bands have missed."

"Altered State" comes out June 12, 2026 on Season of Mist. More...

Defiled Streaming New Album

For the past three decades, Defiled have kept their blade sharp. Ever since Tokyo's underground lost their minds over the band's grotesque arsenal of finishing moves, Yusuke Sumita and his death metal samurai set off on a war path that's left nothing but inevitable ruin in their raw wake. They've ransacked Milwaukee Metal Festival and joined forces with their fellow legends in Mayhem, Incantation, Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse.

Having now churned out three albums in almost as many years, metalheads can be forgiven for believing that Defiled had already reached the highest level. But the Japanese legends have topped themselves again on their eighth album. "Horror Beyond Horror" comes out this Friday, September 20, but you can hear all 14 slicing and dicing songs today by listening to the full album stream on Season of Mist's YouTube channel. You can find the video below. More...

The band recently entered frontman Erik Rutan's own Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL to begin recording the new studio album. J.J. Hrubovcak has been added as the band's bassist.

Commented Rutan: "The band has been locked up in Mana Recording Studios doing pre-production for the past two months, finishing up songs that we have been writing over the last year in between tours and albums that I've produced, and we feel we have come up with one of Hate Eternal's heaviest, most twisted, evil, melodic, and insane albums yet.

"It was my goal to expand upon what the band has done in the past, and add new dynamics and twists to the traditional, dissonant Hate Eternal style, yet keep it in the same vein. It took the three of us really pushing ourselves, and digging deep into the essence of who we are as musicians and writers and players to create something very unique and special. We cannot wait for everyone to hear what we have in store."
