Insomnium guitarist Ville Friman has posted the following tour update on the band's travel blog:
"Hi, we're back :)
"We just packed our van and left snowy Joensuu behind us: Germany here we come. We are just cruising to Mikkeli through beautiful wintry scenery to pick Niilo [Sevänen, vocals] with us before heading to Helsinki harbour. Plan is to take ferry to Rostock and hopefully our comrads from the Swallow the Sun will join us for this nice boat trip. We'll arrive to Rostock in the monday evening so we have lots of time to disco, sauna and other stuff. Maybe have nightcap or two. You never know, we might even get drunk. Well, we let the pictures tell you all when we update this blog next time. Anyway, it's nice to see these jolly fellows again as we really had good time in USA. This time we’ll be moving with our van and StS will share bus with Amorphis. Good thing is that we have our own equipments, sound engineer and even light technician with us. So you might even call this progress in some sense. We’ll post short presentations about these guys later when we get proper photo material, heh heh…But more talk about nothing will follow during next three weeks. Hope you enjoy our ride as much we do ;)
A few pictures have been posted on the blog. Check them out at this location.
At the end of its upcoming North American tour, Sweden's KATATONIA will head to Mexico for the first time ever to play two exclusive gigs in Mexico City and Monterrey. Despite suffering the evil eye of American TSA agents, experiencing Dr.Pepper, and playing in a few clubs smaller than your bathroom - Katatonia is coming back to the US with three of the genre's most interesting rising stars. Kicking off September 4, the tour will make nineteen stops around the country. Thats 19 chances to see this lineup before they sneak across the border to Mexico for round two!
Katatonia made their stateside touring debut last fall performing alongside Moonspell and Daylight Dies (North Carolina, US). With Swedish tech-metallers Scar Symmetry in tow this time around, Katatonia will be introducing Finnish neighbors Swallow the Sun and Insomnium to our weak beer beginning in Springfield, Virginia. Touring in support of their first live album, Live Consternation, it will be the first time long-time American fans will be able to experience a full set from this deeply talented group.
From the press release, "Live Consternation, set for American release June 5, is a stunning 5.01 cd/2.0 dvd package which features selections from the band's successful 2006 album The Great Cold Distance and choice cuts from their growing and popular catalog. Kerrang notes, 'submlime melodies and moments of sheer mellow bliss,' while Rocksound adds, 'absolutely astonishing.' "

Finnish metallers Insomnium has entered the Fantom Studio to begin recording their third album. The songs which are to be recorded include such dreary titles as “At the Gates of Sleep”, “The Mortal Share”, “Drawn to Black” and “The Killjoy”. The new material is clearly more aggressive, punchy and tighter than the previous album but the melancholic mood, wistful melodies, doomish passages and progressive twists are still present. “For sure this is going to be our greatest effort so far”, tells vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen. “This will be a very versatile album and each song will be full of nuances. There is fury and there is sorrow. Scandinavian melodic death metal at its finest!”
You can view the progress online in the Insomnium studio diary.
Insomnium’s third album will be released in autumn 2006 by Candlelight Records.
Finnish metallers Insomnium are about to invade the the Fantom studio in the beginning of April to record a new album. Some crystal clear and yet brutal sounds are to be expected since Fantom is the name behind some of the best albums ever produced in Finland. The songs which are to be recorded include such dreary titles as “At the Gates of Sleep”, “The Mortal Share”, “Drawn to Black” and “The Killjoy.” The new material is clearly more aggressive, punchy and tighter than the previous album but the melancholic mood, wistful melodies, doomish passages and progressive twists are still present. “For sure this is going to be our greatest effort so far,” tells vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen. “This will be a very versatile album and each song will be full of nuances. There is fury and there is sorrow. Scandinavian melodic death metal at its finest!” Insomnium’s third album will be released in autumn 2006 by Candlelight Records.

Feb. 22 Kuopio, FIN - Henry's Pub
Feb. 23 Jyväskylä, FIN - Ilokivi

Oct. 27 Helsinki - Semifinal (with Elenium)
Oct. 28 Turku - Pelimies
Oct. 29 Lappeenranta - Iltatähti
Insomnium are currently busy writing new material for their upcoming album and have now completed 4 to 6 songs. The band writes:
"For our ears the new material sounds a bit more aggressive, heavier and faster than songs in the "Since the Day It All Came Down". Still it's hard to yet tell how the album will eventually turn out. But we promise that it will serve you all the old tricks mixed with some new elements, twists and turns. Time will tell, hope you can wait until then. And by the way we have already booked the Fantom studio for the next spring where the recording of our third strike will take place. More updates will follow..."
Finnish melodic death metallers Insomnium have posted this message on their official website:
Writing of Insomnium's 3rd album is progressing slowly but surely. We had been without training place for almost year since last spring when we were kicked out from our previous one because of breaking down the whole building. Luckily we managed to get us a new and absolutely better one few weeks ago and rehearsing will be much easier for now on. We held also proper rehearsals together for the long time and actually composed a brand new song spontaneously which turned out something different for us. There will be some gigs in the summer but nothing sure yet. We will inform from them later. Shirts are unfortunately and unforgivably late because of the unbelievable slow shipping procedures. They come sale as soon as we get them.
Finnish melodic death metallers INSOMNIUM have made their entire 1999 demo available for free download at their official web site. Check it out it at this location.
INSOMNIUM, whose sophomore album, "Since the Day it All Came Down", was released in the U.S. in May via Candlelight Records, are currently writing material for their third CD, tentatively due in late 2005. "We have finished a few new songs already but there's still long way to go until we have whole new INSOMNIUM album in our hands," the band write on their web site. "If everything goes well we’ll enter studio probably somewhere in the next year."
Candlelight Records has confirmed May 4th as the US release date for the new album from Finland's Melodic Death metallers INSOMNIUM. "Since The Day It All Came Down" is the second full-length album from the band.
Recorded at Media Works Studios and mastered at Finnvox Studios, Since The Day It All Came Down contains the same solid songwriting, impeccable musicianship and inventiveness that made the band's 2002 debut, In The Halls Of Awaiting, a success. Vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevanen comments, "This album contains music that is maybe more difficult to define. The foundation is still the melodic Scandinavian death metal, but there are very different kind of moods on the album. Progressive shades have taken a larger part in the new sound. This is a heavier and gloomier album than the first one, and surely more challenging."
