Below is our complete Instil news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
The Dutch metal outfit Instil has broken up. Frontman René has issued the following:
"We look back to six wonderful years. We did about 350 shows in the last few years, played with our favourite bands, gained massive response on our records 'Fire Reflects In Ashes" and our latest MCD "Stalking Death" which gave us the opportunity to do TV-performances for example and an Iceland tour as the first Dutch band ever. It's time to look ahead. Everyone of us will go further with new bands. Time for something else. Thanks for your support."
Instil's drummer Jaap Vissering left the group in October. One month later with try-outs and searching the band reports that Instil found a new drummer.
The band has finally made the selection of their new drummer official. The new guy's name is Marc Guchelaar. Marc has done time in several bands but his mainband was thrash/death metal band Unauthorized from Hoogeveen.
Here is the band's statement:
"We're exited with the addition of Marc as the last spot to be filled. He is experienced and he contributed with songwriting from the first day we shook hands. We never thought we could find good replacements that fast. Now we can continue touring and writing. The last thing we want to do right now is to stay home and not be out on the road! We're glad to have Marc and
new guitarist Wouter as a refreshing change and who are both professional in their approach to touring as the rest of the guys in the band.. that's awesome. Instil is complete again"
Instil has officially announced the addition of guitarist Wouter Jillings to their line-up. Wouter replaces Joop Suelmann, who left the band last month. Here's a statement from the group:
"Thanks to everyone for showing so much enthusiasm and interest in the guitar auditions. It was not by any means an easy decision to make. After the departure of Jaap and Joop we couldn't find a good guitarist listening to the name of Jeep or Jiip but we have been fortunate to find in our opinion one of the best unrecognized metal guitarists from the north, Wouter Jillings. Wouter is formerly of the band Escadron, death/thrash youngsters from Friesland.”
The following is a statement from Wouter “Killings” on coming into the band headstrong!
”I’m proud that I am now part of Instil. After a few practise sessions it was obvious that these guys are very talented and professional but also have their sarcastic sick humour so this is the right band for me. They have it all. The guys make me feel welcome and also my girlfriend supports me in this new adventure. It’s not an easy job to replace Joop but the feeling is right. Actually we’re inspired that much that we already write new songs together. I can’t wait for the first show to get on stage. See you there!”
In related news, the band has been holding auditions to find a new drummer to replace Jaap. He will leave soon to spend some more time for his study and mosh collective Vindictive. The band hopes to announce a our new drummer soon. In the meantime our shows are still taking place.
Finally, for the first time in the tour history of Instil they'll be heading to the UK in Nov/Dec. They will do a couple of shows with our buddies in The Architect (NL) and Viatrophy (UK) who recently joined Necrophagist on their UK-tour.
Dutch metalcore band Instil have parted ways amicably with their guitarist and drummer. The band had this to say about the split:
"We're sad to announce the departure of our guitarist and drummer and dear friends Jaap Vissering (drums) and Joop Suelmann (guitar).
Almost 9 years we played together in bands and Instil took us the last years everywhere through Europe from Iceland to Czech Republic and from Sweden to Spain. We had a great time on the road, in the practice room, during the making of videoclips, TV-documentary and in the studio.
We wish Jaap and Joop all the best for their final year(s) of their study and future plans with music and/or career. We will miss you guys!"
Groningen (Netherlands) metal outfit The Architect have recently joined forces with Geert van der Velde (Shai Hulud) who relocated (back) to the Netherlands 2 years ago to pursue his studies after stepping out of full-time vocal duties for Shai Hulud. The Architect was formed out of the ashes of Dutch hardcore/metal veterans Revolt earlier this year (2005) and had quietly been rehearsing and playing local shows with 'fill-in' frontman Rene Smit frontman of Dutch hardcore/metal renowned band Instil. The Architect joined up with Geert in September and recently played their first show together with Life in Your Way in Groningen. They have been actively playing out since and are currently working on new material for a full length album - tentatively to be recorded in 2006. A live MP3 of The Architect with Geert on vocals (2nd show) can be found here.
Instil have been busy as of late writing new material for their next Garden Of Exile Records release. They've written five songs thus far and according to the band, the material is "faster, melodic, [with] cool death/thrash and mosh parts and [is] more brutal than we have expected."
