Jeff Loomis, ex-Nevermore guitar prodigy, has been added to the 24-date, coast-to-coast US tour with Protest the Hero, Periphery, The Safety Fire, and Today I Caught the Plague. Jeff Loomis reveals the quality players he's brought in to accompany him on the stage:
Joe Nurre - guitar (Shaded Enmity)
Gregory Macklin - bass (System Divide, Ordinance)
Anup Sastry - drums (Intervals, Skyharbor)
"My good friend, Joe Nurre from up here in Seattle, will be playing guitar with me out on this run with Protest the Hero and Periphery. Some of you might have seen him play with Nevermore on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise last year. I was lucky enough to find this killer drummer online. His name is Anup Sastry, I've seen him do these perfect drum covers on his Youtube page. I reached out and learned he plays in a few great bands as well. You should check out all the stuff he's done. Anup is based out in the DC area and brought in a friend of his, Greg Macklin, to do bass. Those guys are going to be getting together out there to start practicing the set. Joe and I will do the same over here and then a couple weeks before the tour, Joe and I will fly over Maryland and we'll all rehearse until we get things perfect. I can't wait to get out there and start playing live again. See you soon."
The tour begins March 25th in Chicago, IL and will lead up the release of the new album, Plains Of Oblivion on April 10th, before wrapping up in Philadelphia, PA on April 22nd. Dates are as follows: More...

Guitarist Jeff Loomis has been in the studio the last few months working on his sophomore solo album, to be released later this year. Since entering the studio, Loomis has revealed a number of notable guests that will be appearing on the release and now, Loomis announces the newest special guest: Ihsahn, formerly of Norwegian black metal band Emperor and current solo artist. Jeff commented:
"I know most of you are aware that Christine Rhoades is doing some vocals on my album. At first I thought she'd be the only guest singer on the record but then this one song started coming together, it's pretty brutal. I've always wanted to do really, really heavy music and after hearing this, both Aaron and myself thought we needed some crazy, sick singer on it.
"We just sat around tossing names out for a bit, nothing really was sticking and then Aaron says, 'I got it...Ihsahn' and it was one of those moments where you knew that was the answer all along, it just hadn't been unlocked in your mind yet. Anyway, a few short emails back and forth and we had his vocal track in. It came out amazing. I can't wait for you to hear it. Ihsahn, thanks again, it's an honor to have you on my record."
The new album will be produced by Aaron Smith (7 Horns 7 Eyes), and fans should keep their eyes peeled for previews of developing songs, studio updates and additional details.
Guitar prodigy Jeff Loomis has locked himself in the studio for the past few months perfecting his sophomore solo record, to be released later this year. After his departure from Nevermore and the release of his solo debut -- "Zero Order Phase" in 2008 -- fans have been craving a new album.
With a number of influential musicians appearing on the upcoming release, Jeff Loomis is more than ready to deliver. Details on two NAMM appearances have also been announced. Jeff Loomis comments:
"A couple of years ago I achieved my childhood dream of releasing a solo album. With the releasing of my second record coming up, I'm proud to announce another dream come true...or should I say dreams...Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine and Chris Poland have all done guest solos for it. These guys must have given me hundreds of blisters on my fingers when I was a kid trying in vain to emulate their work. Hell, I'm still trying to figure out some of their solos. To have three guitar players that I looked up to as a young player and still hold in such high regard is simply amazing. I can't thank those guys enough.
"In other news, I'll be down in Southern CA next week for this year's NAMM show. I have two new Schecter models that I'll be showing and I'll be doing a signing Saturday, the 21st, at their booth at 1pm as well as another one later that day with Engl Amps at 5. Also, I just confirmed a full US tour for April. I can't wait to get back out on the road again. More details on that soon."

Jeff Loomis returns to the studio at the end of this month to begin recording his sophomore solo album, with Aaron Smith (7 Horns 7 Eyes) producing the album. "He [Smith] has been a friend for a while now and has helped me out with various recording projects over the years." Says Loomis. "We've been working on demos and pre-production for the past few weeks and are very happy with the way things are turning out."
Loomis has also enlisted a roster of musicians to back the project. Dirk Verbeuren of Soilwork will be tracking drums, and Shane Lentz will be handling bass. Loomis added, "Doing drums, as most of you know, is Dirk Verbeuren. I don't think there's really anything else I can add to that. His name just sort of speaks for itself. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I was planning on doing the bass parts myself but then saw this amazing bass player on YouTube and said to myself, 'I need to have him on the record.' I got in touch and was thrilled to find out he was into it. I'm really looking forward to hearing what he's going to be bringing to these songs."
In addition, Loomis plans on collaborating with a handful of other vocalists and musicians including Christine Rhodes, who previously contributed to Nevermore's "Dreaming Neon Black" album.
Fans should keep their eyes peeled for previews of developing songs, studio updates and additional details. The album is set for release in Spring 2012.
