Between the Buried and Me is excited to announce the "Coma Ecliptic" tour, named after the band's forthcoming new album, and set to take place July through August in North America.
The tour features support from Animals As Leaders along with openers The Contortionist. The tour will be the group's first official set of dates following the release of "Coma Ecliptic" on July 7th. A first single from the album will also be landing in early April.
"Coma Ecliptic" will launch via Metal Blade Records worldwide. Once again, the band has returned with an ambitious concept album: this time, the story follows the wanderings of an unidentified man, stuck in a coma, as he journeys through his past lives. Each song is its own episode in a modern day, sort of The Twilight Zone-esque fashion. The unidentified man enters each world and is offered a choice: stay, or move on to the next in search of something better, something more "perfect." More...

“If it wasn’t for the thousands upon thousands of dollars Triston Seever lined Arty’s pockets with every week, the rock god knew the Hollywood agent wouldn’t tolerate the star’s strange new habits – the most disturbing of which was slaughtering young girls by the dozens. Triston Seever was a fraud; Arty knew this. (He was a man who knew a thing or two about fraud.) The little charmer was no longer an innocent kid. Something dark had taken hold of his body.”

Friday, March 14, 2014, my third day attending SXSW music festivities, started just after 3 pm. This event was my only excursion outside of live music. Members of Landshark Promotions and DJ Chuck Loesch of 101X "No Control Radio" premiered a CD of the Ronnie James Dio tribute album "This Is Your Life." The three-person panel presented each track from the forthcoming recording featuring an all-star lineup of modern and classic metal artists. It felt good singing along to these majestic reworkings done in the name of charity. 100% of the proceeds will go towards Wendy Dio's "Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund" .

Animals As Leaders will kick off the New Year with a massive headlining North American tour on February 24th with After The Burial, Navene Koperweis, and Chon.
The first batch of dates are listed below and more will be announced in the coming weeks. The debut Sumerian Records album from Animals As Leaders is targeted for March release and a new track will surface online in late January.
Javier Reyes states: "We are definitely very excited about our upcoming headliner as it's been over two years since we did our last headlining North American tour. I think we have chosen a line-up that consist of extremely talented acts. Our labelmates, After the Burial, are a band we have yet to ever share the same stage with, so we are definitely looking forward to that. Ex-AAL drummer Navene Koperweis is coming out and performing solo and Chon are a very cool band we think people will enjoy.
"However, we are mostly excited about finally playing new material. I think some of the new tracks are some of AAL's strongest and musical material yet, so I am looking forward to seeing the crowd reactions. I am really happy how the album is coming out. Everyone who took part with this album (Misha Mansoor, Adam Getgood, Diego Farias, and Navene Koperweis) is extremely talented and I think we've done a great job of capturing it onto what is now the third Animals As Leaders album. See you all soon." More...
While on tour with his American power trio - The Winery Dogs - Mike Portnoy filmed an epic and personalized invite video to his first ever Progressive Nation at Sea Cruise.
Portnoy takes you band by band and leads you through the musical adventure that attendees have to look forward to at this one of a kind, floating prog festival taking place February 2014. Mike Portnoy had this to say:
"I could not be any prouder or any more excited than I am for Progressive Nation At Sea 2014. It is my ultimate dream lineup ranging from legends like Jon Anderson & Adrian Belew to Prog trailblazers like Spock's Beard & the Flower Kings to today's most extreme cutting edge artists like Devin Townsend and Periphery.
"I am also excited to be playing with Bigelf, PSMS & Transatlantic...the final encore of which will see Transatlantic & Jon Anderson joining forces for a one-time only set of Yes classics! This is going to be a historic experience and the Prog event of the Millennium! You will not want to miss out on this!"
The lineup features Adrian Belew's Power Trio, Devin Townsend Project, King's X, Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, Pain Of Salvation, Anathema, Riverside, Periphery, Animals as Leaders, The Safety Fire, Tony Harnell & Bumblefoot, Bigelf, Beardfish, The Dear Hunter, Haken, Jolly, Anneke van Giersbergen, Mark Mikel and Next to None. More...
Progressive Nation is hitting the high seas in 2014! The inaugural sailing will occur on February 18th - 22nd 2014 on the luxurious Norwegian Pearl heading from Miami to Great Stirrup Cay and Freeport, Bahamas. The lineup includes:
Transatlantic, Portnoy Sheehan Macalpine Sherinian, Jon Anderson, Adrian Belew's Power Trio, Devin Townsend, King's X, Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, Pain Of Salvation, Riverside, Animals As Leaders, The Safety Fire, Tony Harnell & Bumblefoot, Bigelf, Beardfish, The Dear Hunter, Haken, Jolly And Next To None
Progressive Nation founder Mike Portnoy elaborates:
"In 2008 & 2009, I created a touring package called 'Progressive Nation' and with Dream Theater headlining, we did three full tours (two in North America and one in Europe) that showcased a variety of bands that embraced the spirit and musicality of progressive music.
"Well after a 5 year hiatus, I have decided to resurrect Progressive Nation and this time we are taking it to the seas! But rather than a 4 band bill like previous Progressive Nation tours, we have expanded the bill to OVER A DOZEN of today's greatest progressive bands, musicians and artists! (and there may be one or two more still to be confirmed)
"Myself and my former DT bandmate Derek Sherinian have teamed up with Sixthman (who have done incredibly successful cruises with Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the annual Kiss Cruise to name a few) as well as our friends at InsideOut Music and look forward to a very successful inaugural launch of Progressive Nation at Sea Feb 18th thru 22nd 2014. Guitarist Javier Reyes (Animals As Leaders) has inked a new solo deal with Sumerian Records for his project Mestís, which is an all instrumental effort. Sumerian comments:
"The debut EP, Basal Ganglia, is a five track offering showcasing Reyes' vast musical diversity and features an intriguing variety of instrumentation performed by highly acclaimed musicians. The EP is set for a Nov 27th release and specially priced pre-order bundles will be available in the coming weeks." A teaser trailer for the EP can be found below.
Reyes also states: “Basal Ganglia is an EP that come from several places, and by places, I mean influences. I’ve always wanted to create a style of music that focused on being emotionally exploitive and technically sound, yet simple enough for the average music listener to appreciate. Another influence was using the eight string guitar in a form that is unconventional to the 'trends' or independent of characteristics that are found in music styles/genres that have popularized it. Another and important reason was to create a true form of my own independent voice as an artist. To create music that expressed my personality, upbringing, emotions and musical taste." More...
