Travis Neal Comments On Joining Dirge Within

Chicago act Dirge Within announced the recruitment of new vocalist Travis Neal late last month, and now Travis has posted the following statement online about joining the band:

"Hello to all the Dirge Within fans out there and thank you for the amazingly warm welcome!! It is always a difficult situation when an established band loses they’re front man and brings in a new voice in the attempts to fill the original vocalists shoes. It can either work or not. I have a great feeling that you all will be extremely happy with the new changes in the band!! My respect to Jerms and all of his future endeavors! He is a great front man with a strong voice, I have no doubt that he will continue to move forward in his musical career.

"I am extremely happy to be a part of the DW family, I have known Shaun Glass for a long time and it is very cool to finally be able to collaborate with him in a band together! A couple weeks ago I joined Shaun along with Frankie, Jimmy and Chuck in Chicago for some amazing rehearsal sessions as well as some great times! We all have clicked extremely well and the chemistry shows! Like it was meant to be! Again, I have a great feeling that you all are gonna really dig the material that we are working on… A lot of you know of me from my work in Divine Heresy as well as other projects that I have been involved with. I know a lot of you that know of me know that I tend to keep busy and tend to keep a full plate. I have multiple 'projects' that are out and floating around. I am a musician and truly love to create and play music. I do a lot of studio projects with friends and other musicians out there and that is why you all will see my involvement in several projects and that is exactly what they are... 'projects,' nothing that will be toured to support. Just studio projects. Truth be told, I only have one band that is active (Cyanide Serenity) and now Dirge Within will be the second band that is active. More...

Pit Stories: The Oral Treatment

Every week we catch up with metal bands from around the globe to share their best mosh pit stories. While the pit is frequently home to drunken antics and bone breaking action, if you ask enough metal bands for bizarre pit stories, most of them will eventually have a memory or two of overly-amorous show goers.

After last week's lengthy story of a Meshuggah show enhanced by brain-altering fungus, today we've got a much shorter and sweeter tale of a metal fan who just couldn't quite wait to get home to express his affections with his lady. Shaun Glass, guitarist for Dirge Within, had this story to share:

One time - I believe in Houston - we were on stage, midway through our set I look up to see the whole pit stop and stare. What were they looking at? A guy was giving some girl oral sex against the wall of the speakers of the PA! They obviously did not care that 500 metal heads were also watching ha!

In other Dirge Within news, the band recently dropped off the Shockwave Festival, and also shot a music video for "Memories," which will be released soon.

Check back in again next Tuesday for more pit stories shared by metal fans and bands. If you've got a story of pit love, feel free to share below!

Dirge Within Shooting New Video

Chicago heavy metal quintet Dirge Within will film a music video for “Memories,” the first single off the band's sophomore release, "There Will Be Blood," today with local director Peeler.

Commented guitarist Shaun Glass, “The video has a very cool storyline as well as some exciting new elements; we think it will blow people’s minds. We couldn’t be more pumped to be filming in our hometown with such a cool, talented director.”

“Memories,” as vocalist Jeremy “Jerms” Genske explains, is one of the more emotional tracks on "There Will Be Blood," as it addresses the sensitive subject of losing someone close to you.

“For me the song is about the loss of one of my old friends to suicide - the fact that it came out of nowhere when it happened, and how it still lives with me,” said Genske. “But the beautiful part about it is that it’s open to individual interpretation. Anyone can take their own feeling from it.”

Stay tuned for the “Memories” music video in the coming weeks. While Dirge Within gears up to launch its first music video from "There Will Be Blood," the band has also revealed that it has been forced to drop off the run on Shockwave Festival 2012.

“We would like let all know that due to reasons beyond our control we will not be at Shockwave 2012 tour,” said Glass. “We will have updates on new dates soon. And to all the hometown fans, don’t forget about next Monday’s [June 25th] show with Hellyeah at the House of Blues in Chicago!”

Dirge Within To Enter The Studio

Dirge Within, the band featuring former SOiL guitarist Shaun Glass, has announced that the band will be entering the studio this December to begin work on a new elease. A message from Glass reads as follows:

"First off the reason I have written about this is the amount of fans asking me as well as friends in bands as well. I am not in SOiL nor is their tour a original line-up reunion.Yes Ryan is on board as well as Tim (King; bass), Adam (Zadel; guitar) are from the original line up. I wish them the best. I am 100% busy and focused on Dirge Within.

"We just wrapped up a full US tour for the new Absolution EP and were now preparing to enter the studio in early December to begin the new album and were pretty stoked on how much the song's are still growing as we keep hammering 'em to make sure they are the strongest they can be. Some of the titles are 'Memories', 'For My Enemies', 'Murder..Savior' all are set to be part of this new full album which will be out early in 2012. Trust me this is gonna stomp some asses!"
