Kingcrow Releases Animated Video

With the release of "Eidos," the sixth studio full-length from Italian progressive metal troupe Kingcrow nearing release next month through Sensory Records, the first single has been released through an official video for the track "The Moth." Check it out below.

Showcasing the Rome-based Kingcrow sextet's expansive take on forward-thinking metal in a completely different approach than ever before, the video for "The Moth" was created in a unique animated style by Argentinean artist Gastón Viñas, widely known for his similarly-styled works for Radiohead, including videos for their songs "2+2=5" and "A Wolf At The Door."

Issues band guitarist/backing vocalist Diego Cafolla about the song: "When we started to think about the first single, 'The Moth' seemed the obvious choice to us since it's short, busy and quite catchy at the same time and shows also some new ingredients to our sound... I was listening to a Radiohead playlist on YouTube when this animated video (for the song '2+2=5') popped up and I found it terrific and mesmerizing... I contacted Gastón Viñas, the author of the animation, just to tell him how much I appreciated his art...he wrote me back that he listened and loved Kingcrow's music and that's how it started. I gave him some inputs about the album concept, the artwork and the song's lyrics and he came out with another brilliant piece of art!" More...

Kingcrow Unveils Details For New Album

As Laser's Edge division, Sensory Records, prepares to release Kingcrow's sixth full-length studio recording, "Eidos," today the album's cover artwork, track listing and additional details have been revealed.

"Eidos" will drop on June 23rd and follows the "In Crescendo" album released last year. "Eidos" is a conceptual album about choices, consequences, dealing with regret, and disillusion. As the "Phlegethon" album dealt with childhood, and "In Crescendo" about the end of youth, "Eidos" can be considered the third part of a trilogy about the path of life.

This new album was recorded at Sound Under Pressure in Rome, with the production handled by Diego Cafolla and Thundra Cafolla. Several guest appearances help create the album's new atmospheres, including saxophone provided by Stefania Bentivoglio on the track, "Slow Down," and piano by Fred Colombo of Spheric Universe Experience for the track, "The Deeper Divide."

Mixed by Giampiero Ulacco and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New York, the production of the album is matched with artwork by Cristian Nastasi/Devilnax. The track listing is as follows:

1. The Moth
2. Adrift
3. Slow Down

Kingcrow Releasing New Album

Rome, Italy's progressive metal band Kingcrow has wrapped up the final touches on sixth album, "Eidos," and is preparing to release it through Sensory Records on June 23rd. The label also comments:

"Describing the band today is quite a difficult task, but one could state that the influence of such artists as Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Opeth, Anathema, Pink Floyd, Meshuggah, Radiohead, King Crimson and Massive Attack are all present in the music of Kingcrow.

"With each release, the band has taken a step further away from their original roots as a classic hard rock/metal band, and is today one of the most personal and exciting bands that Italy has to offer the scene.

"Following the success of the 'In Crescendo' album released through Sensory in February 2014, Kingcrow returns this year with 'Eidos,' a new conceptual album about choices, consequences, dealing with regret and disillusion. After the album, 'Phlegethon,' dealt with childhood, and 'In Crescendo' about the end of youth, 'Eidos' can be considered the third part of a trilogy about the path of life.

"Musically it sees the band exploring new territories and pushing the extremes of its complex soundscape with a darker atmosphere and a more progressive attitude. With over an hour of new material, Eidos is the next logical progression in the evolution of Kingcrow, and will open the next doorway for what lies in wait for them next."

Kingcrow Releasing New Album "In Crescendo"

The progressive metal aficionados at New Jersey-based Sensory Records this week announce the pending release of the newest album from Italy’s Kingcrow, "In Crescendo." The following press release was issued about the album:

"While working in a mostly progressive metal direction in the earlier days, Kingcrow has increasingly expanded the scope of their sound to encompass elements of rock, nowadays rounded-out in a culmination of strong atmospheric component similar to Riverside, Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd but also bearing a heavier, metallic semblance to Opeth and Dream Theater. This is boldly present on the band’s fifth studio full-length, In Crescendo, the new album encompassing nearly an hour over eight epic movements. Produced by the band’s own Diego and Thundra Cafolla at Sound Under Pressure in Rome, the massive album was then mixed by Giampiero Ulacco and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music.

"Over the past two years Kingcrow has expanded the band’s fanbase through European tours in support of both Redemption and Jon Oliva, in addition to performances at ProgPower Europe and ProgPower USA. Plans for a U.S. tour are being devised for 2013 in support of In Crescendo."

Sensory Records, a division of The Laser’s Edge, will release "In Crescendo" in North America on February 12th. Stay tuned for further updates as the new album nears release and as Kingcrow takes to the road in the New Year. The album's track listing is as follows: More...

ProgPower USA XIII: Day One

While the rest of the world went to work or whatever it is they normally would do on a Friday, the contingent of the lovers of loud and fast music down on Peachtree St in Atlanta were being awesome. The day that many metal fans were waiting for since Day Two of the 2011 festival had finally come around -- Day One of the 2012 festival had arrived, bringing with it headliners Epica and support bands Sinbreed, Kingcrow, Amaranthe, Serenity, Primordial, and Redemption. The night before, Nightwish and Kamelot had thrilled in the same venue.

With several levels of ticket options available to attendees, gold badge attendees were given early access to the festival's merchandise room. Like the gaping maw of a hungry beast, the doors to the merchandise room were opened at noon and soon swallowed absurd amounts of money with little effort from the wallets of attendees. For attendees who found the dilemma of "I just need ONE more CD," without having the money for it, there was an ATM around the hall so that "one more" could then turn into "ten more" without a worry. American Heavy Metal Tradition: ProgPower USA

The ProgPower USA festival is approaching its thirteenth year, but if you were to look at the number of international bands who have made the Atlanta-based festival the site of their US debut, you would find that number even more impressive – a solid eighty-two. That number includes bands such as Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Edguy, Gamma Ray, Pagan’s Mind, Circus Maximus, Stratovarius, Riverside, and more. The US is not known for heavy metal festivals – at least not of the level that Europe is known for, with Wacken, Hellfest, and all sorts of other open-airs. In the US, ProgPower is the longest-running and most well-known of the handful of festivals we do have. Moreover, as evidenced by the title, this is a pointedly progressive- and power- metal themed festival, with performances by an average of 14-16 bands over several days.

Last year, I had the privilege of attending the festival and contributed a series of write-ups about each of the days afterwards. The experience was much like a Comic-Con or anime convention, only geared around highly amplified sound aimed at rattling my brain and rocking my soul. It was like another world altogether, given that everyone I interacted with on that three-day stretch could talk for hours on end about the juxtaposition of synthesizer and guitar solos with no reservations. It felt like a family reunion. More...
