Tristania Confirmed For Wacken Open Air 2009

A post on the official Wacken Open Air festival website reads as follows:

"Dear Metalheads,

For the 20th anniversary of the W:O:A, gothic metal band Tristania has now been confirmed. The Norwegian band has been successfully touring since October last year with new frontwoman Mariangela Demurtas."

Wacken Open Air 2009 is scheduled to take place from July 30th - August 1st in Wacken, Germany.

Other acts confirmed for the festival are AMON AMARTH, IN EXTREMO, CATHEDRAL, EINHERJER and MACHINE HEAD.

Battered Norwegian Tour Dates Announce

BATTERED, the Norwegian band featuring former EINHERJER members Frode Glesnes (a.k.a. Grimar, vocals/guitar), Aksel Herløe (guitar) and Gerhard Storesund (a.k.a. Vivar, drums), has scheduled the following dates:

BATTERED is currently writing material for its second full-length effort, tentatively due later in the year. "While the bandmembers may have been spread out all over Norway for some time, all members have been busy writing material for our next album, pumping out riffs, lyrics and rhythms for a richer, fuller and more BATTERED experience in our sonic attack!" the group previously wrote on its web site . "Songs are already starting to take shape, and we will not stop until we all feel we have done our best, delivering an album worthy of the live energy we perform it with, whether we play for 20 or a 1000 people!"

Evig Natt Ready Debut Release

EVIG NATT, the new Norwegian metal act featuring THUNDRA and ex-EINHERJER bassist Stein Sund (vocals, bass, synth), alongside REISM singer Kirsten Jorgensen, will release its debut album, "I Am Silence", later this year through Omvina Records.

According to EVIG NATT, the band's music is influenced by MY DYING BRIDE and ANATHEMA, but with a different and more extreme approach.

EVIG NATT recorded "I Am Silence" at Black Dimension Studio with help from THUNDRA members Harald Magne Revheim (drums), Thor Erik Helgesen (guitar) and Rune Fredriksen (lead guitar). Additional guest vocals were provided by Thomas Ljosaak from the Norwegian thrashers VESEN.

New Battered Song Available For Download

A brand-new BATTERED track, entitled "Oblivion Awaits", has been made available for download at this location. The song comes off the Norwegian group's self-titled debut album, which is scheduled for release in Norway on February 25 on Tabu Records, in Europe on March 13 and in the U.S. on April 14 via Candlelight Records.

"Battered" (view cover here) was recorded at Sifa Lydstudio and was mixed at Top Room Studio with producer Børge Finstad.

BATTERED — who feature in their ranks former EINHERJER members Frode Glesnes (a.k.a. Grimar, vocals/guitar), Aksel Herløe (guitar) and Gerhard Storesund (a.k.a. Vivar, drums) — recently teamed up with producer Rome Ramsies of Vision Valley to shoot a video for the song "Not One" from the group's debut album. "The whole video was shot in bluescreen and the CGI will be done in Australia," the band write on their web site. The clip is expected to premiere in February.

BATTERED's current lineup is rounded out by bassist Ole Moldesæther and vocalist Sigurd Olaisen (HEADBLOCK).

Vivar, drums), commenced the mixing sessions for their debut album on November 15 at Top Room Studio with producer Børge Finstad. The CD, which was recorded at Sifa Lydstudio this past summer, is scheduled for release in Europe in February 2006 via the Norwegian label Tabu Recordings. A U.S. release date will be announced later.

BATTERED's current lineup is rounded out by bassist Ole Moldesæther and vocalist Sigurd Olaisen (HEADBLOCK).

Thundra Sign With New Aeon Media

Norwegian metallers Thundra, featuring former members of Einherjer and Enslaved, have inked a deal with Karmageddon Media subsidiary New Aeon Media. The group, who were previously signed to Spinefarm Records, are completing work on their sophomore album at Black Dimension studio for an early 2005 release. The group's 2003 demo (featuring the cuts "On Thorns," "Signs" and "At Autumn's Fall") can currently be downloaded at the group's official website.

Einherjer Splits

Norway's EINHERJER have officially called it a day. The following is the group's statement on the matter:

"After 11 years, 4 albums and 2 mini-albums, we've decided to split up EINHERJER. We feel that we've made the album we wanted with 'Blot' and therefore a journey of 11 years has come to an end. We would like to thank everybody who has supported us through the years.

"For us, it is time to move on. We are definitively not retiring as musicians, so you haven't heard the last from us yet…

"Regards, Frode, Aksel & Gerhard"
