Steve DiGiorgio To Join Obscura On Tour

Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, ex-Death/ex-Testament) will join German progressive death metal act Obscura on their upcoming Japanese tour alongside Nile and Triptykon. Vocalist Steffen Kummerer commented on the tour situation:

"During scheduling conflicts with Pestilence, Jeroen Paul Thesseling is not able to join us on the trip through the land of the rising sun. Fortunately our friend Steve DiGiorgio will help us out and plays these special shows with Obscura. With that said, I will clear that Jeroen is not leaving our band nor is a session player. We will record the third album with the same lineup as with Cosmogenesis in 2008 and start a huge world wide touring schedule with Jeroen on our side on all shows when the yet untitled third album will be released."

Sepultura, Obituary And Sadus To Tour Together?

John Tardy, the lead vocalist of legendary American death metal group Obituary has checked in with a road report from Europe. It reads as follows:

"That was a busy few days there to finish this run out! Not much sleep happening, a lot of travel, but some really good shows. Thanks to all of you that came out to see us! We finished out in Spain at a great festival in Lorca. It was a good show and great to see our good friends in SEPULTURA. It had been a while since we saw them and they want us to put the S.O.S. Tour back together. Sepultura, Obituary, SADUS...that sounds fun to me. We will see what happens.

"Next up for us, we will be headed to Portugal for a festival and our first trip there! After that we start our US tour and we are looking forward to that!

"I will go through all my photos and get them up here in the next day or two as soon as I get my self together and try to get caught up with all the fan email. I did not have internet for the last few days so I am falling behind, but I will get to them as soon as I can!"

Sadus Replace DDP At Mexico City Concert

San Francisco Bay Area metal veterans SADUS have replaced DUBLIN DEATH PATROL (DDP) as the headlining band for the January 26 concert at Hard Rock Live in Mexico City.

"Rock Thursdays apologize that DDP could not perform at the gig scheduled for January 26 since almost 15 days before the gig 80% of the tickets were already sold," a statement from the concert organizers reads. "But for all the metalheads in our country, we are able put on the same day and the same venue a great band of the thrash scene, SADUS, with the legend Steve DiGiorgio. The local act VOLTAX will still play the gig."

The End Records released SADUS' latest album, entitled "Out for Blood", North America in May 2006. The CD was released in Europe in February 2006 via Holland's Mascot Records.

The follow-up to 1997's "Elements of Anger", "Out for Blood" was recorded at Trident Studios in California with producer Børge Finstad (MAYHEM, BORKNAGAR, VINTERSORG, EXTOL), engineer Juan Urteaga and manager Rob Lewis. Sadus To Play Puerto Rico

Bass legend Steve DiGiorgio (SADUS, DEATH, TESTAMENT) has updated his site with the following message:

"San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In the continuing quest to visit all of Latin America, the chance to play the US occupied island in the Caribbean came up. And just like all our Southern neighbors, we felt welcome and long overdue to bring the "Sadus Attack".

The rain was randomly pounding and the beers were just as watery... but during the brutal sets of the two support bands the fans filled in and prepared to witness the old-school set compiled by these aging Sadudes.

The enthusiasm was at a high level the whole show even though the bass amp died half-way through, but Señor Luis on the sound board saved the mix with the DI.

It was a crazy time meeting all the fans after the show and going around to the death metal sidewalk concert at 3 AM.

I want to thank Alberto, Carlos and Ray for helping us the entire time... herbal thanks go to the multi-talented Hendrix... y sobre todo gracias a todos nuestros nuevos amigos y amigas de Puerto Rico para un tiempo bueno... and you can trust, we will back!"

Displeased Rep Comments On Sadus Reissues

Ron Veltkamp of Displeased Records has issued the following statement regarding the label's plans to reissue some of SADUS' early classics — "Illusions/Chemical Exposure" (1988), "Swallowed in Black" (1990) and "A Vision of Misery" (1992) — in a remastered form, featuring bonus material, lyrics and biography:

"Just like to set the record straight. The reason for reissuing the first three SADUS albums was not to rip off the band. We like the band and find that their albums deserve to be available and not only for $ 30-50 on eBay. We licensed them officially from Roadrunner and we pay them of course. What their duty is to do with that money is not up to us. The contract RR has with SADUS is the obligation RR has. Since we're not aware of the contents of the contract (only RR and SADUS do) we cannot predict what part will end up with the band. According to Steve's [DiGiorgio, SADUS bassist] comment, we assume it's not much, if anything. No, we don't like that either. When we deal directly with a band, we always pay the band their royalties, but with a license deal, we're not the ones that deal with the band. So don't blame us.

"We would like to make these three albums the final versions, ones that the band, the fans and us are proud of. If you decide not to buy these albums because the band might not get paid for it, we understand the reason, but doubt it will have any positive effect on anyone."

Sadus Bassist Comments On Upcoming Reissues

SADUS bassist Steve DiGiorgio has commented on the recent announcement by Displeased Records that they will be reissuing some of the band's early classics — "Illusions/Chemical Exposure" (1988), "Swallowed in Black" (1990) and "A Vision of Misery" (1992) — in a remastered form, featuring bonus material, lyrics and biography.

Said DiGiorgio: "As far as the reissues [are concerned], there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. But I'm not so guarded about it. The situation is that Roadrunner Records owns the rights to those three albums for 20 years after the deal starts for each album, so 2010, 2011, and 2012 respectively. Displeased Records paid whatever they were required, and will continue to pay out to Roadrunner in order to re-release all three. By Roadrunner owning the rights still, they are not doing anything outside of the contract we signed with them to do something like this. Displeased Records will make money off of the sales, sure. But they are obligated to pay Roadrunner a royalty rate, and after production costs, I don't think it's enough to agonize over.

"The way I see it, is that our music is getting more readily available to the old fucks and new young fucks that have been scanning, and overpaying on eBay to get it. All of this wouldn't be happening if we didn't stoke the embers and revitalize ourselves. The reissue demo CD, the Santiago DVD, the new album, the shows, the upcoming DVD, and now the reissued Roadrunner albums...all in the last two or three years. In the big picture, it's all brought SADUS back to life and got people talking about us again, wanting to book us more, and listening to our music again...maybe more than ever.

"Displeased is willing to take a risk of cost to sales on our modest trilogy of thrash albums that never made such a huge splash in the sea of metal. I view it as a compliment to our staying power that they would even pay attention to us. If they were only money-hungry, trust me, they would go after a band that would pose a better possiblilty to generate a substantial profit. Their intentions are good, and no blame should be put on them for our shitty deal that we signed with Roadrunner — or less modestly — the deal that Roadrunner knowingly tricked us and many bands into. In fact, props should be garnered to them for beating out our current employer, Mascot, for the rights and opportunity to re-release to what some call 'cult albums.' Be careful not to confuse ethusiasm with greed.

"If I haven't persuaded you yet, then I guess you can start some kind of Displeased boycott on some website or something. But legally, nothing is being waged against us. Money people potentially make off of us vs. fans that breathe life into our mostly stagnant band is a fair trade-off, in my mind."

Displeased Records Plan More Extreme Reissues

Displeased Records, which recently reissued Whiplash's Insult to Injury, have placed more classics on their release schedule. This fall, the label will put out two discs by New York '80s thrashers Toxik (World Circus and Think This) as well as the sole offering from technical thrash band Disincarnate (which featured Death guitarist James Murphy), Dreams of the Carrion Kind. The company will follow in the first half of 2007 with three reissues by San Francisco death-thrashers Sadus — Illusions, Swallowed in Black and A Vision of Misery — and two by Canadian death-metal outfit Gorguts, Considered Dead and The Erosion of Sanity.

Darkane Film Hometown Show For Possible DVD

Swedish thrashers DARKANE have just returned from being on tour in Europe with SADUS and GORY BLISTER. Here's the official update from DARKANE guitarist Christofer Malmström:

"We had a great time and the audiences were fantastic! After returning home to our hometown Helsingborg, we played a show here and filmed it with nine cameras for a possible DVD. We are gonna listen to/watch the results within the upcoming days and see if it's worth working on (mixing the sound and editing the video). If it's good we might release it later this year together with extra material from our career. We've always brought a video camera on tours and studio recordings, so it might be a lot of fun to watch."
