Ape Readies New 3-Song EP

APE will be releasing a new 3 song EP very soon, possibly within the month. The band will be releasing material they recorded back in April and May of this year. The band comments on recent events:

"[2010] has been more of a struggle for APE both internally and externally. While waiting months for some of the shit to settle, APE's two founding and only remaining members; Everett Mason and Galen Weir will release the bands new CD soon. A release date has not yet been set but it is expected the new CD will be pressed within a month. With no APE shows booked and with no timetable on when APE will take the stage again their have been rumblings about Galen and Everett embarking on side projects during the bands downtime."

Ape Cancels Two Shows

Ape has been forced to cancel two shows and has issued the following update, without many details, as a result:

"Unfortunately APE will not be performing on June 4th at Hollywood and June 5th at the Atria. We have some internal issues to deal with. We sincerely apologize to the promoters who booked us, the bands on the bills with us, and the lovely people who support us and come to our shows. We have been scrambling like crazy to find another band to take our spot because the news was just brought to our attention last night. Things will be dealt with accordingly and there will be some new APE news in the future."

Ape Enters the Studio to Record New Music

Canadian hard rock/metal fusion band Ape has entered the studio once again and issued the following update about it:

"APE is back in the studio and things are sounding fucking kick-ass. We don't necessarily have a plan on when these songs will be released or even how many songs we are going to do. All we can really say is that the tunes are sounding a little heavier than 'Survival.' The addition of Jon on the drums is exciting. His hard hitting style and good feel is giving us a very solid foundation back there. We knew we had to hit the studio immediately after he joined. We are hoping to have something out in roughly a month. We'll keep you up to date."

APE Clarifies Their Name and Stance on A.P.E.

Toronto hard rock/metal band APE has posted a statement about another Toronto band, A Primitive Evolution, using the acronym "A.P.E." Here's the statement and warning to fans:

"We think it is necessary to clear something up. APE and A.P.E. are in fact two different bands. Understandably this is very confusing. Two rock bands from Toronto with the same name. To add to the confusion, our name is derived from an acronym as well, however now we now simply go by APE. We assure everyone that this confusion is entirely not our fault. Another band called A Primitive Evolution is playing under the name A.P.E. A few months ago we contacted the band A Primitive Evolution to let them know that APE is already taken and suggested that they go by their full name since their acronym is our band name. But our emails have been ignored. We think there is a simple solution to this. They should go by their full name A Primitive Evolution and we should continue with our name APE that we have been playing under since 2001. After all, if you are an original band don’t you want to have your own identity? We don’t believe A Primitive Evolution purposely stole our name, we think it was an accident. We even think the skull in their logo that we also use in our logo is just a coincidence. It seems that the problem now is that they are in too deep to change or start over. A Primitive Evolution just did and album that is called A.P.E. (our debut album is also called APE released in 2007) and they probably have our name all over their merchandise as well. So rather than update their name to one that is original, it seems as if their plan is to ignore us and hope we go away without making a stink. Not going to happen. Regardless of which band you are a fan of we want all of you to know that we had the name first and that putting periods between each letter of our band name doesn’t make it original. Anyone who sees their posters can see that A.P.E. is always in big letters and you have to squint to see that it actually stands for something. We felt the need to post this after receiving countless emails and phone calls of disappointed APE fans paying a cover charge to see the wrong band. We wouldn’t have posted this unless we believed we are 100 percent in the right. To all you independent bands out there, protect what is yours."
