Besides the Sauna Open Air in Finland, the acclaimed Wacken Open Air and Rock Hard Festival 2005 just got confirmed. Finland's Sentenced has posted the following message on their official website:
We’d better put this out in the open before you hear it somewhere else.
The title of the new album is ”The Funeral Album”, and with it we, SENTENCED, are coming to the end of our road. This album will be our last one.
The decision is mutual, thoroughly thought over and final.
Metaphorically speaking, this is a mass suicide of 5, and the new album is the kind of note we want to leave behind. One last time around for good-byes.
The decision was made during 2004. The reasons are many, and I don’t feel any need to go into details here. I will say however, that everyone will walk away as friends. In my eyes we are even not splitting up, but ending our recording career together. And there is major difference between those two. Our wish was always to go out with style and at the peak of our so called success. I think with ”The Funeral Album” we will do exactly that.
Once the album is released, there will be an undefined number of farewell shows. When, where and how many, those are questions that at this point remain open. Intense and long touring, however, will unfortunately not follow, and most of these shows will take place on festivals where we can reach as much people as possible at one time. At the moment it seems that all of these funeral shows will be in Europe.
If everything goes as planned, we will also make a live-DVD out of those last shows and include a lot of stuff from the past on it. Not to mention all the music-videos we have done during the years. The working title for the DVD is ”Buried Alive”.
After that SENTENCED is no more.
And: THIS IS IT. There will not be a re-union, come-back, or any other pathetic and soap-operish circus that seems to be in fashion these days. SENTENCED will rest in peace.
We will make the most out of the band’s last year, and hope you will all join us.
See you on the last run.

Guitarist Sami Lopakka from Finland's SENTENCED has posted the following update:
"After spending about 2 months in different studios the new album is finally finished. Its total running time is 49:53 and the following titles are included:
1. May Today Become the Day
3. We Are But Falling Leaves
4. Her Last 5 Minutes
5. Where Waters Fall Frozen
6. Despair-Ridden Hearts
7. A Long Way To Nowhere
8. Vengeance Is Mine
9. Consider Us Dead
10. Lower The Flags
11. Drain Me
13. End Of The Road
What you can expect is a variation of different kinds of songs, and for sure some surprises. In addition to the traditional instruments we used everything from scissors, zippers, compressed air and spoons to harmonicas and a children choir… but not to worry: as far as I understand anything anymore, we still have managed to maintain a sense of style.More...

SENTENCED frontman Ville Laihiala has taken over the lead vocal duties in his side-project POISONBLACK following the departure of CHARON singer Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto.
Laihiala's decision to handle the vocals himself comes less than a month after reports surfaced that the group's new singer would be a Canadian vocalist whose name had never been officially revealed. Until now, that is.
In a statement posted on his official web site, Toronto, Ontario-based solo artist Christopher (COME CLOSER) has addressed the rumors that he has been chosen to become the new frontman for POISONBLACK. His statement reads as follows:
"I've been getting a sizeable amount of e-mails from various strangers, friends, and colleagues regarding the rumour that I am the new singer of POISONBLACK. Today I can address this rumour once and for all.
"I WAS to be the new singer of POISONBLACK. I had my passport ready, vodka in hand, and ready to fly to Finland to lay the vocal tracks down on the next POISONBLACK album and possibly trade anti-depressants with Timo Tolkki. Ville Laihiala and I have been communicating for 3 or so months trying to get me over to Finland to record and hash out the logistics of this possible long-distance relationship.More...

Here's from the official Sentenced site, Sentenced.org:
"Sentenced have announced plans to play a few European festivals during the summer, including Summer Breeze, which is set to take place August 19-12, 2004 in Abtsgmünd, Germany.
"We will throw in some brand-new stuff during our show this summer, because we don't want to play a 'best of Sentenced' kind of set this time around. That would be too boring," drummer Vesa Ranta said.
The band are currently writing and rehearsing the new material.
"We haven't worked on too many new songs yet as a band, but I know that Miika [Tenkula, guitarist], Sami [Lopakka, guitarist] and Ville [Laihiala, singer] have written lots of new material [on their own]. We are now rehearsing at a small studio and it's a very good place to build new songs.
"We are going to enter the studio next autumn, so I guess that the new album will arrive in the beginning of the next year. But it's up to record company of course...
"I guess it will take about two months to record the new album... It's a lot longer than it used to take during the old days when we used to record albums in a week... For example, it only took ten days to make [1993's] North From Here," Ranta laughed."
