Nothing spices up a shitty, rainy afternoon like a good, old-fashioned metal show. And it’s even better when said daytime metal show includes some bonafide rock stars kicking complete ass in an intimate venue.
That’s just what unfolded in the dank, dark confines of Church in the shadows of Boston’s Fenway Park this past Saturday when Brian Fair of Shadows Fall and Mike D’Antonio of Killswitch Engage shattered the day’s doldrums with an hour of thrashy punk with their new side project Death Ray Vision.
The pair of old friends, joined by KsE/Seemless guitarist Pete Cortese, Cannae drummer Colin Conway and newcomer Zack Wells also on guitar, unveiled the new band a couple weeks ago at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Mass.
But this was their first show in Boston and it was a throwback to the all-ages union hall shows where the band members started out. They chose heavily from their newly-released EP “Get Lost or Get Dead,” ripping through “Shatter Frames,” “Get Lost” and the punishing hardcore romp, “Not for Glory.” More...

Boston thrashers CANNAE have teamed up with sponsors Unrestrained! Magazine and Galy Records to headline a string of shows throughout Canada. Dubbed the "Storming The Border" tour, CANNAE will be joined by Canadian bands BLOODSHOTEYE and 3 Mile Scream on the 15-date tour of cities throughout the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
"We're looking forward to playing Canada again, ever since the last time we were there with God Forbid and Sworn Enemy," CANNAE drummer Colin Conway says. "It was only a short amount of time we spent in the western section of Canada, but the shows were nothing short of amazing. We have always had a great time playing in Canada, and we're hoping that these upcoming shows will be no exception in spreading the word of Cannae throughout the Great White North."
Before crossing the boarder, CANNAE will play with The Red Death in Rochester, NY. The conclusion of the "Storming The Border" tour will coincide with the band's appearance at the third Sherbrooke Metalfest, alongside Canadian natives Neuraxis and Buried Inside. Boston-based thrashers CANNAE will embark on a handful of dates alongside God Forbid, Sworn Enemy, and Manntis to continue supporting Gold Becomes Sacrifice, the band's second album on Prosthetic Records. The record has received praise from the press, being called "a crafty combination of mind-numbing precision and jarring sensory overload" by Revolver magazine, while Blabbermouth.net wrote that the album "snorts, snarls, and kicks 90-pound weaklings in the face. As far as sheer heaviness is concerned, this quintet leaves bomb craters in its wake." Produced and mixed by Jason Suecof (God Forbid, Trivium) and mastered by Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Death), the record features guest solos by both Suecof and James Murphy (Death, Obituary, Testament), alongside the addition of several new members to the band.
Currently on the road with The Nicea Room in support of Gold Becomes Sacrifice, Cannae will meet up with God Forbid at the end of January, having already opened for the band on a string of dates throughout the Northeast in November. More...
Cannae has posted an update from the road:

We apologize for this and we hope to be back in that area soon to make it up to you.
We will also be heading back out on the road before the New Year with The Nicea Room. Dates have been posted for the East Coast and Canada, and more dates will be added shortly."
