God Forbid Reveals DVD Cover
GOD FORBID have posted this message on their MySpace page:
"Here is the first look at the cover for GOD FORBID's upcoming DVD 'Beneath The Scars Of Glory And Progression'. The design may look familiar to some of you. It was the tour poster artwork for the 'Chains Of Humanity' Tour. We liked it so much, that we thought it would be a fitting cover for the DVD considering that was the tour we filmed the concert. Also, we just posted two live audio tracks (on MySpace) from the concert for your listening pleasure. Enjoy Eric Rachel's stunning recording and mix!"
God Forbid To Release DVD
New Jersey metallers, GOD FORBID will be releasing a DVD entitled "Beneath the Scars of Glory and Progression," which will be released on June 10th. The DVD features a sold-out perform Fance at the Starland Ballroom in the group's hometown, all of their promotional videos, and an hour documentary.
Doc Coyle issues the following comments regarding the DVD, "Hey, it's Doc checking in from the 4th day of the 'In Thrash We Trust' tour with Death Angel, Soilent Green and Light This City. So far it's been a blast. The first two shows were with Testament, and they were excellent. We are sharing a bus with Death Angel and they are really some of the nicest guys I have ever met. There is a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm that they carry with them. Man, do they destroy live! I wasn't too familiar with them before the tour, but I can see why they are considered legends. Soilent Green and Light This City are kicking ass too. Great people and awesome bands." More...

God Forbid Guitarist Slams Metalcore
Over the coming months GOD FORBID guitarist Dallas Coyle will be writing a weekly column, The Hard R, for MetalSucks. Dallas has a lot to say about politics, life, music and an assortment of other topics, and lucky for you, you'll get to read all about them at MetalSucks. For the first installment, Dallas shares his feelings on the meaning of the word "metalcore" and the misuse and overuse of that term. An excerpt from the blog follows:
"When I go to the supermarket I like to buy Nathan’s or Sabrett hot dogs. Not the supermarket’s brand of hot dogs. I would like to hope that I have enough money to buy the higher quality product. Hence metal to metal-core. Metal-core to me is the poor mans choice for heavy, aggressive music.
Let’s bring up the ‘breakdown’. Most like to say metalcore is metal and hardcore put together but it’s more about the ‘breakdown’ that gets real metal, like God Forbid, labeled with this bullshit term. If that’s the case, let’s go back in time to SEPULTURA’s Chaos AD which has breakdowns galore. Is that then the first metal-core record? Everyone says of course not. I say ‘fuck you’ ’cause if we’re metalcore then Sepultura’s Chaos AD is too. For the record, Chaos AD is metal as fuck.
One of the ideologies that I live by is: Everything relates to everything. Metaphors are infinite. The metal to metal-core debate relates to everything in art; torture porn horror versus horror, cheap tricks versus real strategy, etc. Where’s the beef?
Obviously metal-core has none. I don’t fault the supporters who describe us as metal-core but I do fault their support of ‘journalists’ to try and reinvent the wheel that wasn’t broken in the first place. God Forbid isn’t doing anything but trying to make good metal for true metal heads. We’re not reinventing the wheel and we’re not responsible for that dump in the pants genre called metal-core. Can we please move on from re-labeling music that already has a label?"

God Forbid Announce DVD Title
Last week GOD FORBID turned to their fans to help them come up with a title for their new DVD and the fans rose to the occasion with a barrage of submissions.
Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) checks in to announce the winning submission:
“After a good deal of deliberation, the boys in God Forbid, with a little help from our A+R guy and manager, have picked a winner for the contest to name our upcoming DVD. And the winner is (drum roll please) David Cazares from Chino, CA with the title Beneath The Scars Of Glory And Progression. Congratulations go out to David. He made our jobs a lot easier. Maybe we'll have our fans name everything from now on.
I would like also like to announce our 2nd and 3rd place contestants: Alex Damske from Naperville, IL with Declaration Of Treachery and finally Heol Cennen from Llandeilo, UK with Constitution Of Touring. It was a close decision and I did not expect to get some many great responses.
I would personally like to thank everyone who participated. We definitely have some creative fans. Our decision came down to choosing something that was unique and dynamic, but also captured, in a statement, what this DVD really says about God Forbid. The concert and documentary featured on the DVD are positives forces in our band's movement from turbulence to continuous kinetic growth. It deserved a title that illustrated that with all the bad things that have happened to us, even more good things happened, and we look forward to an even brighter future. Thanks again to David Cazares, all who participated in the contest, and everyone who worked on the DVD.”
God Forbid will enter the studio early next month with longtime producer Eric Rachel (ATREYU, IN THIS MOMENT) at Trax East in NJ to record their new album. Be sure to stay tuned to www.myspace.com/god4bid for current news and studio reports.
God Forbid Want Fans To Name DVD
Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) states: “God Forbid has been kicking for ten years strong, and we are consistently blown away by how loyal our fans have been through our musical evolution. It's definitely time to give something back. The GF camp have been having some trouble coming up with a title for our upcoming DVD, so Dallas (guitars, vocals) thought it might a good idea to involve our faithful fans in our creative process by letting you name the DVD. Yes, YOU motherfucker! Put on your thinking caps and become part of God Forbid history.
“This contest will only be running for a week, and the grand prize winner will get their name listed in the DVD’s credits, receive an autographed copy of the DVD, an ESP/Cocaine Energy drink guitar and a case of cocaine energy drinks. The two runner ups will also receive a bunch of other awesome stuff. We're going to pick the top three and have everyone vote on the best title from there. We will announce the winner on January 28th. Good luck and let the games begin!”
Please send all DVD title submissions to mail@centurymedia.com and be sure to include your full name, age and mailing address. The contest runs through 12PM on Friday, January 25th.
Coyle further comments: “This is going to be a big year for God Forbid as we will be releasing our first ever DVD and our first new album since 2005. The DVD is pretty much done, except for the menus, and we still need a title. I've already mentioned how incredible the concert portion looks and sounds, but the band was fortunate enough to be able to screen the documentary portion, directed by Denise Korycki, and we were all blown away. It is a combination of historical insight, introspection into our personalities, social commentary and some god damn funny ass shit. I guess we were sick of being funny on other bands DVDs. If you consider yourself a true God Forbid fan, this DVD will be essential. I think this DVD ranks among the best metal DVDs on the market.
“In regards to the new album, we are a lot further along in the writing process. We have a few songs completed, and probably a dozen more in the works. So far the material is extremely varied. I can also say that Dallas and I have started using seven string guitars, so tonally there will be more variety.
"We will be heading into the studio at the beginning of March with our long-time producer and friend, Eric Rachel (ATREYU, IN THIS MOMENT) at Trax East. So the album we probably come out mid to late summer. Let's keep our fingers crossed on that front. We will also begin videotaping rehearsals and recording, and releasing some YouTube updates as the process continues. Keep your eyes and ears open for those. More news to follow soon”
God Forbid Guitarist Speaks On DVD And More
MetalSucks recently had the opportunity to sit down with GOD FORBID guitar player Doc Coyle on the New York stop of their Stillborn Fest tour with HATEBREED, AGNOSTIC FRONT, NECRO, AT ALL COST, and SHAI HULUD. Doc went into detail about what to expect from the band's upcoming DVD release, the band's currently in-the-works album, the art of metal showmanship, and insight into the band's writing process. An excerpt from the chat follows:
MetalSucks: 2008 seems like it's gonna be a big year for you guys. You've got the DVD coming out. Is there any update on that?
Coyle: DVD is pretty much done. We pretty much just need to finish up the editing of the documentary. The concert is pretty much done too. We have to do the menus, and kind of get the final cut on everything. But I'll tell you, the DVD is fucking incredible. Honestly it's one of the best metal DVDs I've ever seen. It came out even better [than the show]… honestly we were so nervous, we didn't know what to expect. We knew the crowd was really good, and that, you know, it went so fast that we just didn't really know what to think. We were just happy with the turnout and everything just seemed like it went really smoothly. But when we went back and looked at all the footage, it looks fucking epic, the look of the whole DVD. We had Eric Rachel who did our last couple of records record it and mix it and it sounds incredible. We're actually gonna release a companion disc with it, because it sounds amazing. We're not the hugest band in the world so I don't know how many people are gonna buy it, but hopefully word of mouth will spread it. At least the people who buy it will pick it up and say, "Damn, that was worth the 15 or 20 or whatever bucks I spent on it."
A lot of bands put out some shitty DVDs. I'm not gonna name any names. But ones where you they shot it with their momma's 1984 VHS, them hangin' out backstage, them prankin' each other and throwin' up on each other and downing beers. It's like… that shit's cool, but we wanted to have a great concert. 'Cause I know when I was a kid I couldn't afford to go to the concert. I watched "Live Shit Binge and Purge" [METALLICA]! That's how a lot of people who have never seen you before are gonna learn about your band, and what it might be like to go to one of your concerts. And we also wanted to show the personality of the band. A lot of people talk about how when they tour with us we're a cast of characters, we're off the wall. A lot of bands bring us on tour 'cause they like hangin' out with us. So we wanted to kinda show people who didn't know us personally what we're all about. And also the story of our band… it's a very interesting story. It's not like a typical success story — like, if you watch the KILLSWITCH DVD it's like, "We did this, and it was amazing. And then we did this, and it was more amazing. And then we got big, and then we got rich!" I mean whatever, they're not, who knows how much money they have. But I'm just saying it's all great stuff, and with us it's like yin and yang — it'll be good, we've had good stuff happen to us and we've had bad stuff. The tale of a struggling, working band, in the fight, but not where they wanna be.
Our shit, the thing about it is it makes us look a lot bigger than we are! The show, the lights looks crazy, we had ten cameras and a fuckin' crane. It was a big show, so it just looks good. We're really happy with it.
MetalSucks: We were talking to Brodsky [Dave Brodsky, director] about it and he was over the moon about it.
Coyle: I can't believe how well it came out. The documentary is fucking incredible. Lex Halaby did it, he did KILLSWITCH's documentary. But ours is just so much edgier. We talk about the race thing, and just the struggles of our band. The shit is the REAL shit. It's fuckin' hilarious. People who are fans of the band are gonna be really stoked on it. Hopefully it'll come out and build some hype before the CD.
MetalSucks: And how far along are you with the new album?
Coyle: We're actually pretty far along. We have three songs compeletly done. We're still tinkering, you know, it's never done till it's done. But we've probably got another 10 or 12 that are almost done or half done, and probably another dozen ideas we haven't even gotten to yet. But we have another two months of straight-up writing and preproduction and we go into the studio in March. It's coming along really well. Sometimes you get so wrapped up in working on it that you don't even know how good it is and how people are gonna react. We've shown some people the songs we've done, and it's been an overwhelming response so far… it's a lot different.
MetalSucks: How so?
Coyle: We're just doing different… trying different types of song. We're not tied into a formula. One song we have, it sounds like a DIMMU BORGIR song. One song sounds like OPETH. Then we've got more stuff like "To the Fallen Hero", more hook-oriented stuff too. And some really technical stuff. Some super, heavy slow stuff. In a way not being a massive band like KILLSWITCH or LAMB OF GOD or SLAYER, you don't have as much to risk as far as trying different things. I don't know, we're trying to make an impact.

God Forbid Issue DVD And Album Update
New Jersey metallers GOD FORBID check in with the following update from guitarist Doc Coyle:
"Howdy partners! It's Doc from God Forbid here to let everyone know what's been going on with the band. It has been a while since we've given an update. We actually just played Stillborn Fest with HATEBREED over the holidays, and it went incredibly well. The shows were packed, and it is amazing to me how our live shows just seem to get better and better over time. They went fucking crazy! Thanks again to Hatebreed for once again taking us on the road. They are great friends and and still one the best live bands around. I'd also like to thank the other bands on the bill; AGNOSTIC FRONT, NECRO, AT ALL COST, THY WILL BE DONE, TURMOIL, SHAI HULUD, and BLOODJINN. We made some new friends and reunited with some old ones. Definitely a great way to spend the holidays. I would also like to wish everyone a happy new year.
This is going to be a big year for God Forbid as we will be releasing our first ever DVD and our first new album since 2005. The DVD is pretty much done except for the menus and we still need a title. It's incredible how difficult it is to come up with something as minute as a title, but it is very important. I've already mentioned how incredible the concert portion looks and sounds, but the band was fortunate enough to be able to screen the documentary portion directed by Denise Korycki, and we were all blown away. It is a combination of historical insight, introspection into our personalities, social commentary, and some goddamn funny ass shit! I guess we were sick of being funny on other bands DVDs. If you consider yourself a God Forbid fan, this DVD will be essential. I think this DVD ranks among the best metal DVDs on the market.?
In regards to the new album, we are a lot further along in the writing process. We have a few songs done, and probably a dozen more in the works. The material so far is extremely varied. We have a really black metal influenced song, a sludgy, melodic opus, a much heavier 'Fallen Hero' type track, an epic OPETH inspired song, and a bunch of other awesome shit. Rock stuff, prog stuff, slow songs, thrash songs. I honestly am not sure what songs will make the album in the end, but I can say that it will once again be a departure from what we've done but still sound like God Forbid. We will probably end up writing too many songs and having to pick which ones will fit best. Our goal has been to make an album that will not only be a landmark for God Forbid, but for heavy music in general. After showing some very rough rehearsal demos to people, and getting some very enthusiastic responses, I feel like were at least headed in the right direction. We have not finished any tracks with vocals, so I can't answer the ever elusive question about whether there will be more or less singing. I'm still not sure. We will try to do what fits the songs. I can also say that Dallas (Coyle, guitarist/vocalist) and I have began using 7-string guitars, so tonally there will be more variety. We will be using some of our older tunings, but will be going as low as A and G for some songs. But no nu-metal songs, in case we were getting your hopes up. We will be heading into the studio at the beginning of March with our longtime producer and friend, Eric Rachel at Trax East. So the album we probably come out mid to late summer. Let's keep our fingers crossed on that front. We will also begin videotaping rehearsals and recording, and releasing some YouTube updates as the process continues. Keep your eyes and ears open for those.?
We do not have any touring scheduled at the moment as the focus is on the new record, but we would like to do some shows to support the DVD release. There is no release date yet unfortunately. The band would like to do some European festivals in early summer, and hopefully land a big US summer tour to help blow this new album up. Any touring plans will be announced in the coming months. Everyone take care and stay metal. Vote Obama 2008!"
Agnostic Front Preparing For Stillbord Fest
AGNOSTIC FRONT is about to embark on their recently announced direct support slot to HATEBREED on Stillborn Records annual Stillborn Fest 2007. The 10-day tour will kick off on December 20 at Jaxx in Springfield, VA and will also include GOD FORBID, NECRO, AT ALL COST and Stillborn's newest signing, THY WILL BE DONE. These bands will play the main stage on all tour dates. Additional bands will play the main stage on select dates and will be announced shortly. Some Stillborn Fest shows will also feature a second stage.
AGNOSTIC FRONT lead singer Roger Miret commented: “This is a huge tour for us and we can’t wait to get out there with our good friends in HATEBREED. As everybody knows by now, no matter what size show we play we always put out hearts into it and give 110%. We will always love playing the smaller shows, that’s where our roots are; screaming in peoples faces when they are three inches away from us. Now, there’s a lot more space between us and a lot more faces so I intend on screaming much louder! Prepare for hardcore fury!”
Pre-sale tickets for Stillborn Fest are available at low-service fee for this event at this location.

God Forbid Drummer Offering Lessons
GOD FORBID drummer Corey Pierce has issued the following update:
"Well, as we will be home for some time writing a brand new record, I have decided to take on a couple of students. Hopefully I will receive some motivated and dedicated individuals who love the instrument as much as I do.
"If you're interested, please email me at MySpace and make sure to include what you want to learn and hope to accomplish in the email. Thank you to everyone who supports my band and thanks in advance for those of you who feel you want to study with me."
He added in a separate message: "I am selling a Premier free floating snare drum 11x14 in immaculate condition. It is worth about $1,100 but I will be selling to the highest bidder starting at $750 so far. Anyone interested simply message me at MySpace."
