No Fear Energy Tour 2009 Rocks Lafayette

Lamb of God is on tour for their seventh studio release, “Wrath,” and they’ve brought along friends that aren’t unknown in the metal community. The tour is only about two months long so catch it if you can. I personally had to drive two hours westward to see the show in Lafayette, Louisiana. But the venue chosen in Lafayette was perfect; it is a medium-sized arena I used to see rodeos in as a child (Lafayette is my hometown.) In New Orleans, we have small bars or sports arenas. In Lafayette, walking into the show was like entering another world like I have never experienced. It was a pitch-blackness with a large stage at the very far end that seemed like the end of the world; the light at the end of a tunnel. Before the show even started, kids were lying next to piles of beer puke on the stone floor. You know it’s going to be a good show. More...

Municipal Waste Issues Tour Report

Virginian thrashers, MUNICIPAL WASTE, have just finished recording their fourth record, “MASSIVE AGGRESSIVE,” with producer ZEUSS (MADBALL, HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL, UNEARTH). MASSIVE AGGRESSIVE is due to be released on August 24th, 2009 through Earache records. MUNICIPAL WASTE recently hit the road for a six week US tour with LAMB OF GOD, AS I LAY DYING, CHILDREN OF BODOM and GOD FORBID. TONY FORESTA (vocals) issues the following report from the road:

"The past week has been a real whirlwind for the Waste. Last Tuesday we finished mixing our new album up in Massachusetts then jumped on a plane to Arizona the following morning to start our 6 week tour with Lamb of God." More...

God Forbid Confirms Guitarists Departure

New Jersey metal group God Forbid has confirmed that guitarist Dallas Coyle has left the band. They also announced that former Darkest Hour guitarist Kris Norris will be his replacement. A message from band member Doc Coyle reads:

"There have been a barrage of rumors and questions on whether or not Dallas has left God Forbid. It's true that Dallas has left the band. It's taken us a few days to confirm this definitely, and figure out what we were going to do considering the fact that we are starting a very important tour with LAMB OF GOD this week.

"I don't want to go into the hairy details, but all I can say is that there was a mutual disagreement between Dallas and I, and the disagreement became angry on both sides, and he decided to sit out the tour the day we were supposed to leave. We later learned he did not want to tour anymore at all. Everyone in the band, including myself was upset and shocked. For me, it's a lot tougher because he's my brother and I have a very close bond with him. We've done everything together our whole lives, so it's difficult to deal with emotionally but I understand he has bigger responsibilities at home to care for. I wish he would've handled it in a different way, but I am not angry at him for leaving if he is unhappy with our situation. I really hope he finds success and happiness in his future pursuits.

"In the meantime, we've recruited ex-Darkest Hour shredder, Kris Norris, to fill in for the tour. We are currently doing a few warm up shows as a four-piece to meet the LOG tour in Phoenix, AZ on April 2nd. Kris will be there for the start of the LOG tour though. I've been friends with Kris for years, and have an immense amount of respect for his playing. I look forward to playing with him, and I'm sure he will knock it out the park! Byron and I will pick up the slack with the vocals as much as we can. Thanks for everyone's continued support, and we'll see you on the road!"

NEMHF 2009 Adds Third Stage

The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.

The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.

“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”

The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.

The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.

Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

Bands scheduled to perform this year include: More...

God Forbid Enters The Billboard Charts

New Jersey based metal band God Forbid has entered the Billboard albums chart with their highest entry yet. Their new album, "Earthsblood" entered the charts at number #110 after selling over 5,000 copies in it's first week.

Guitarist Doc Coyle has also checked in with the following update: “Hello everyone. I'm proud to announce that our new album Earthsblood charted even higher than our previous album, which is amazing in this day and age of downloads. Thanks to everyone who went out and picked it up. It means a lot to the guys in the band. Right now, we're in the midst of a European Tour with our bros in ILL NINO. The tour is actually going very well. The clubs are packed, and we're having a great time with Ill Nino. They are great friends, and it feels wonderful to be around familar faces in a foreign land. Europe seems to get a little better each time we come back. A few more fans show up each time with more enthusiasm, and we are certainly determined to make it over here. I can't wait to come back for festival season in June.

“When we get back to the states, we only have a few days off before we have to do a few warm up shows that lead into the No Fear Energy tour with LAMB OF GOD, AS I LAY DYING, CHILDREN OF BODOM and MUNICIPAL WASTE. Congrats to our friends in LOG for debuting at #2 on the Billboard chart, showcasing that metal is alive and strong in a big way. I expect these sentiments to continue on the tour. This tour is going to be fucking EPIC! I have a feeling people will be talking about these shows for years! This tour is going to be a huge launching pad for this new album. We will be signing cd's at merch on this tour, so be sure to come by and say hello. We haven't locked down the set list 100%, but we only have 25 minutes, so that's around 5 songs. Expect a couple new songs, a few fan favorites, and maybe a wild card in the mix. Can't wait to get back home, and rock for you people. It's gonna be a rager! Peace."

God Forbid Offers New Album Break Down

God Forbid recently provided a track by track breakdown of their new album to the website Metalsucks. Excerpts from the article are below:

MS: As you are (hopefully) already aware, God Forbid’s latest opus, Earthsblood, hits stores today. Guitarists Doc and Dallas Coyle was cool enough to give us a track-by-track breakdown of each song on what is inarguably the band’s best record to date. Enjoy!

GF: 1.”The Discovery” – The intro for Earthsblood came about in a peculiar way. The original piece started with the doomy guitars that kick in around 40 seconds into it. We wrote it as part of our black metal side project called Hell Nigger. It was the outro for a song that we wrote in one day. Without the keys and stuff, it sounded more like Morbid Angel, but with the new album having a much darker tone, we thought it would make a cool intro to the album. The piano piece was actually played and composed (with some direction from Dallas and I) by my Dad, Kevin Coyle. We showed him the chords that the guitars were playing, and he started doing this arpeggiated Danny Elfman thing that just killed. Our Dad is a piano teacher and has been playing for like 40 years. He also played on our last album. The orchestration was performed by Michael Romeo from Symphony X. We met each other through our producer, Eric Rachel. He has his own home studio where Symphony X records their albums and this orchestration program that costs some ungodly amount of money, and takes 4 computers to run. Apparently, they use that program to do film scores. Mike is incredible, and I can’t thank him enough for adding some much virtuosity to the record.

God Forbid On Album: It's "Blowing People's Minds"

GOD FORBID guitarist Dallas Coyle has written the latest entry for his weekly column on MetalSucks, “The Hard R.” This week Dallas talks about the impending release of the new GOD FORBID album "Earthsblood," outlines touring plans for 2009, and takes shots at Internet detractors on Blabbermouth. An excerpt follows:

"I bet a lot of you are wondering why I haven't been doing my blog lately. Well, let me tell you. Our album comes out very soon and I say a LOT of fucked up shit when I'm writing these blogs. I guess it's not as fucked up as what the BlabberBitches say but I guess I can get people all riled up. Maybe they have no lives. Maybe their user name handle is out of date and they just can't change it because their anxiety of being un-"famous" prevents them from doing so. I don't know.

"I slowed down on the blogs for a bunch of reasons. 1) I had a baby. 2) I got a job. 3) I wanted to quiet myself before the album came out so you can pay attention to the music. Of all the shit I say, in the end, none of you would know me if it weren't for God Forbid so I think it's respectful to let GF have the spotlight while the record is set to be released.

"Now that the record is about to come out there's been some press, you've heard some songs and you've seen the artwork. Most of you are probably familiar with the fact that we're touring with Ill Nino in Europe in March, Lamb Of God in the states in April, doing the festivals in Europe in June and doing MAYHEM in July and August. That is a lot of touring. And to the BlabberGrundles who said we're washed up: Yeah, we also got fabric softener with our sick tours... Fuck off.

"How did all this happen? To tell you the truth, I have no fucking clue. I think it might be the fact that the record is blowing people's minds. Or we're a career band and we've always had momentum that is mounting. Or maybe we have friends in very high places. It's gotta be one or all of those things. I'm not too sure but I'll tell you this: I am fucking relieved, I am fucking happy and I am fucking content."
