Bolt Thrower has released this bit of news regarding their first trip to the USA in 14 years:
"Due to the fact that we are not real festival lovers or great fans of flying, the chances of us ever coming to the States for a one-off show was always very small. But after years of relentless emails from Ryan we've finally given in. It's hard to believe that it's been 14 years since we last played in the US, so we are very happy to announce that we are finally coming back. Bolt Thrower will be playing Maryland Deathfest VII, on May 22-24, 2009, at Sonar, Baltimore, MD."
A few more bands were exected to be included in this announcement, but the organizers are still working on the details. Therefore, another announcement is expected with even more band confirmations in the near future, as they wrap up the booking process for Maryland Deathfest 2009
Tickets will definitely go on sale on Friday, November 7th.

OBSCURA bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling (ex-PESTILENCE) comments: "I just got back from Landschut, Germany, where we've finished most of the recordings for the new album. I'm very excited about the new OBSCURA material; it sounds extremely brutal and technical compared with PESTILENCE's 'Spheres' (1993). We are looking forward to play most of the new songs during the upcoming shows."

The band's new lineup is as follows:

Hannes Grossmann (ex-NECROPHAGIST) - Drums
OBSCURA issue the following press release:
"OBSCURA caused quite a stir when they - out of nowhere - toured as support for SUFFOCATION on their European tour 2006 and when they independently released their debut album Retribution later on. Now they are back and stronger than ever before! Mastermind Steffen Kummerer (guitar/vocals) is now backed up by no one else than the former PESTILENCE bass player Jeroen Thesseling and the ex-NECROPHAGIST members Christian Muenzner (guitar) and Hannes Großmann (drums). Together they create their vision of the future of extreme metal. A symbiosis of death, thrash and black metal merged with progressive elements and technical as well as compositional demand. Something that the band simply calls extreme metal art. The focus lies on songwriting though and not just showing off technical riffs, blast beats and sweeps." More...
HAIL OF BULLETS, featuring former PESTILENCE/ASPHYX singer Martin van Drunen and GOREFEST drummer Ed Warby, have entered Excess studios in Rotterdam, Holland to begin recording their debut album for a May release via Metal Blade Records. The band have issued the following studio update from Warby:
"As we're entering the final stages of recording our full length album for Metal Blade Records, we thought we'd share some choice footage of the proceedings. First up is a four-minute glimpse of yours truly beating the shit out of his drums. You can almost see that one crash break! The song I'm doing here is one of the more brutal ones (well, they all are, I guess), with some cool fills and stuff to spice up the umta-umta onslaught. I think I broke an average of 3-4 sticks per song during this session. The forests weep..." More...
Dutch nihilistic black doom metal band BUNKUR has signed with Displeased Records. Their new full length album, "Nullify," is expected in the summer of 2008. Metal Mind Productions reports:
"PESTILENCE doesn't require any introduction. Known for mixing various influences, from thrash to jazz, from fusion to classic death metal, the band has become a legend long before its final split-up in 1993.
"Patrick Mameli (guitar, vocals), Randy Meinhard (guitar) and Marco Foddis (drums) recorded their first demo, Dysentery, in 1986. However, it was only after The Penance, recorded in 1987 with a new member, Martin van Drunen (bass/vocals), that the band caught the attention of Roadrunner Records, who agreed to release their first official album, Malleus Malficarum (1988).
"Pestilence released four studio albums during their career. The final one, Spheres from 1993, brought along a thrilling mixture of jazz-fusion elements with death metal and, thanks to the extensive use of synth guitars, constituted a totally new quality in aggressive music.
Today, Metal Mind Productions presents the re-release of Spheres: classic material from Roadrunner Records' archives, released in a new digipack edition, limited to numerated 2,000 copies. The new version includes bonus material. It is released with new artwork: this, in fact, is the original artwork, done by UK artist Dan Seagrave, that wasn't used on the first pressing of the album.
Digitally remastered using 24-Bit process, released on a golden disc.
Release date: August 20th (Europe), October 10th (USA, via MVD).
Spheres tracklisting: 'Mind Reflections', 'Multiple Beings', 'The Level Of Perception', 'Aurian Eyes', 'Soul Search', 'Personal Energy', 'Voices From Within', 'Sphere', 'Changing Perspective', 'Phileas', 'Demise Of Time'. Bonus tracks: 'Demise Of Time' (Remix), 'Soul Search' (Remix), 'Mind Reflections' (live), 'Multiple Beings' (live).
