Staind Gives Update on Tour and Video Progress
Staind co-founder Mike Mushok has posted the following update:
"Hey everybody, how's it going? All is well here - we've been on the road now for just over two weeks and we're playing in the New England area so we get to spend some days at home which is nice. We had a real hectic past week - we were all in New York doing a bunch of press to promote the new record, The Illusion of Progress, which comes out August 19th. It went really well. Aaron was a bit under the weather - he's been fighting a cold since we started touring, so we didn't play anywhere but did a bunch of interviews. He's starting to feel better now though, which is great.
"We also got to see a first cut of the video for the first single "Believe" while we were in NY and it looks awesome! It was a really cool concept... it's about a guy who plays guitar and wants to move to the West Coast. The filming started in Springfield, MA and they took a week and drove across the country filming their experiences along the way. It's kind of like a reality video and it came out really cool. You can head over to AOL to check out the premiere of Believe and see for yourself.
"So, we're just getting rolling on this 3 Doors Down, Hinder tour and the shows have been great. Crowds have been awesome and getting a really good response to "Believe". It's great to catch up with old friends too, touring with 3 Doors Down and Hinder. We have a great time when we're out with those guys.
"Hopefully we get to see you out on the road. Talk to ya soon."
"The Illusion of Progress" will be available August 19th. You can pre-order your copy now and receive a Staind t-shirt and instant "Believe" MP3 download.

Staind Posts New Single Online
Staind have posted their new single "Believe" online which can be heard by visiting their official Myspace. The song comes off of the groups first album in three years, "The Illussion Of Progress" which will be released via Atlantic Records on August 19th.
The band will be touring with 3 Doors Down and Hinder this summer, followed by an international tour supporting Nickelback.
Staind Announces More Tour Dates and Single
Having just announced the release date for their upcoming new album, Staind has now announced more tour dates and their first single from the album. Multi-platinum band STAIND has announced the much-anticipated release of "The Illusion Of Progress" (Flip/Atlantic), available August 19. The first single, "Believe," hits radio and iTunes June 24. A worldwide summer tour kicks off July 4 in Muskegon, MI prior to the band's joining the 3 Doors Down bill on July 9 in St. Louis, MO. STAIND will also tour internationally with Nickelback beginning September 8 in Cologne, Germany.
"The Illusion Of Progress" marks STAIND'S sixth studio album and is the follow-up to 2005's RIAA platinum-certified Chapter V. STAIND'S last three studio albums all debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. STAIND joins an elite shortlist of five other artists who have also accomplished this feat, including U2, Dave Matthews Band, System Of A Down, Van Halen, and Disturbed.
"The Illusion Of Progress" was produced by Johnny K and recorded in the home studio of STAIND vocalist Aaron Lewis, with the original band line-up, including Mike Mushok (guitar), Jon Wysocki (drums, percussion), and Johnny April (bass, vocals). The band calls the new project the "most musical CD" they've recorded to date, and even treated their fans to a series of intimate, behind-the-scenes "webisodes" posted on staind.com, documenting their recording process.
Comments Lewis: "We went into the studio with the mindset of making our heaviest record yet, but the record that came out has flavors of Pink Floyd and straight-up blues. We didn't use the same rigs that we use onstage; we used all vintage guitars and amps, and I'm pretty psyched about it! The songs are pretty timeless in their texture."
STAIND'S 1999 major label debut, Dysfunction, was certified RIAA double-platinum, and in the new millennium the band's Break The Cycle was certified 5x platinum, followed by the platinum succession of 14 Shades Of Grey in 2003 and Chapter V in 2005. 2002 saw the release of the gold-certified MTV Unplugged. In 2006, Flip/Atlantic released The Singles: 1996-2006, the band's first-ever hits collection, along with a separate companion DVD, Staind: The Videos.
Coinciding with "The Illusion Of Progress," below are 2008 STAIND tour dates: More...
Staind Sets Release Date For New Album
Billboard.com reports that Staind has set an Aug. 19 release date for its next Atlantic album, "The Illusion of Progress." The first single "Believe" will hit U.S. radio outlets on June 24.
"It's a departure from the last record," Staind frontman Aaron Lewis tells Billboard. "There's a lot more effect-y experimentation and a lot more textures with vintage instruments and vintage amps."
The band recorded at the studio that Lewis keeps in his barn with producer Johnny K. And while Staind previously swore to rock even harder this time out, Lewis says it's aware of pressure for another ballad-style track along the lines of such hits as "Outside" and "It's Been Awhile."
"That's what the record label wants," he says. "You're foolish not to [be aware] of that."
"Illusion" is the follow-up to 2005's "Chapter V," which has sold 986,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Staind will be on tour this summer, beginning July 4 in Muskegon, Mich.
Staind Reveals New Album Title, Tour Plans
Staind have announced that their upcoming new album will be titled "The Illusion Of Progress," with a summer release date expected. The band will hit the road for a tour this summer with 3 Doors Down and Hinder. Staind will open for Nickelback on their fall European tour. Those tour dates include:
September 8th in Cologne, GER @ Arena
September 9th in Stuttgart, GER @ Schleyerhalle
September 12th in Belfast, IRE @ Odyssey
September 13th in Dublin, IRE @ RDS Simmonscourt
September 15th in Manchester, UK @ Arena
September 16th in Sheffield, UK @ Arena
September 18th in Birmingham, UK @ NEC Arena
September 19th in London, UK @ 02 Arena
September 21st in London, UK @ Wembley Arena
In related news, Staind frontman Aaron Lewis has plans to begin writing for his solo debut which is expected to be released toward the end of the bands upcoming tour in support of their new album.
Staind Post New Webisode Online
STAIND has posted the ninth webisode from the band's Western Massachusetts studio on MySpaceTV.com. Watch the clip here.
The band began writing its sixth studio album in November and sketched out more than a dozen songs so far. Guitarist Mike Mushok previously said the tunes so far are split between some of the heaviest material the band has written and some of its more standard melodic fare.
To bridge the gap between that record and the group's next album, STAIND frontman Aaron Lewis plans to release an acoustic disc of his solo work. Plans are fluid at the moment, he said, but he's considering a mix of live recordings and studio tracks for that album.
Aaron Lewis' three-night solo acoustic run at the Mohegan Sun Cabaret in Uncasville, Connecticut on February 22-24 was filmed for Lewis' first solo DVD. More...
Motley Crue Management Dismiss "False Rumours"
Tenth Street Entertainment — which represents MÖTLEY CRÜE — has shot down as (at least partially) "blatantly false and completely unfounded" Internet rumors that CRÜE will headline a festival-type tour called "Cruefest", with support from several other artists from the Tenth Street management stable, including BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, SIXX: A.M. and DROWNING POOL. According to Tenth Street, CRÜE's April 15 press conference/announcement in Los Angeles will relate to "a few" (but presumably not all) of the following artists:
MÖTLEY CRÜE
ATREYU
SAVING ABEL
SHINEDOWN
CHEVELLE
APOCALYPTICA
THE EXIES
PUDDLE OF MUDD
STAIND
GODSMACK
DROWNING POOL
THEORY OF DEADMAN
THREE DAYS GRACE
AVENGED SEVENFOLD
SIXX: A.M.
TRAPT
SEETHER
FLYLEAF
BUCKCHERRY
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE
RED
BELLE & SEBASTIAN
PETE YORN
THE WALLFLOWERS
3 DOORS DOWN
All four members of CRÜE will be present at the April 15 press conference at a location yet to be determined for what the release hyped as "by far...one of the biggest music announcements of the year!!" The band is also launching a contest in which one grand prize winner from each major city in the country will be flown to Los Angeles to cover the announcement, complete with a chance to interview the band and have the interview broadcast live. Details can be found at the official CRÜE site.
Benefit Gig For Great White Fire Victims Announced
TESLA, STRYPER (with a special guest appearance by Tom Scholz of BOSTON), Aaron Lewis (STAIND), Eric Martin (MR. BIG) and Carmine Appice's SLAM (a drum thing) are among the confirmed performers at a benefit concert for the victims of the February 20, 2003 nightclub fire, which claimed 100 lives, seriously injured 200 others, and left 65 children without one or both parents.
The show will take place on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Dunkin Donut Center in Providence, Rhode Island. All proceeds from ticket sales and charity auctions benefit the Station Family Fund, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization founded by survivors of the Station nightclub fire. They are committed to providing survivor relief, including costs of ongoing treatment and rehabilitation.
Staind Taking A Break
It's going to be awhile before there's a new Staind album in record stores according to front-man Aaron Lewis. In an interview with Billboard he said,
"Everybody needs some time off. I like to try to make sure the surface is clean. You've got to let all the build-up from being on tour and playing the same songs over and over again go away and have a clean slate to start over with so we don't repeat ourselves.
We've kept a pretty rigorous schedule from the word go in our career. We've been around for 10 years and made five records; that's a pretty serious work schedule. I don't think there's anything wrong with slowing that down just a little bit and giving people a little bit of an opportunity to miss what we have to offer."
When asked about the idea of a solo album he said,
"It's there in concept and thought, but there's a lot of things that have to fall into place for me to bring it to the table."
He hopes that recording on his own will give Staind the chance to recapture the head-banging reputation that's been overshadowed by the bands more mellow hits.
While Staind are playing a string of dates in early December, Lewis will kick off a solo tour on December 27th that currently stretches into 2007. More...

SOAD, Korn, Others Don't Mind Music In Viral Video
MTV.com has written an interesting piece on Viral Videos and talked to a number of band members about their music's use in these indie videos:
Just as Vietnam was called the first TV war, the current conflict in Iraq could be remembered as the first viral-video war.
Viral video, the buzz word of the last few months (especially with marketers), is the term used to describe Internet videos like the "Star Wars" kid, "Brokeback to the Future" and "MySpace: The Movie" that have become phenomena thanks to e-mail and Web sites like YouTube.com and iFilm. But while those were clearly created to get a good laugh, there's a far different viral-video campaign blossoming that centers on American soldiers in the Middle East.
Essentially, troops are using affordable cameras and laptops to shoot and edit videos that chronicle their experience in and out of combat. And since most are set to modern rock music and feature the sort of quick cuts and stylistic shots often associated with MTV, the effect is like watching a music video.
"Wow this is cool — it's better than the real video," Staind singer Aaron Lewis said as he screened a video of "So Far Away" that juxtaposes frightening explosions with scenes of soldiers jokingly Saran-wrapping another troop to his bunk. "It's just crazy to see the footage of them right there in the middle of it, doing it all."
"I have seen ones where you can see people blowing up and all that kind of stuff," said Korn singer Jonathan Davis, whose music has been used by the video-makers. "But even the tame ones serve a purpose. They put faces on the people out there doing it, they're in the barracks and stuff, which is good."
"It is truly an indie media, from soldiers who are the ones who really know what's going on," said Tom Morello after screening a video that uses Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name." "It's not being filtered through some corporate-owned news service or whatever. So I think that their insights to what's happening there are important ones, being set to music that they like."
And not just music they like, but aggressive, political music that reflects the subject matter.
"The intense nature of the song really adds more emotion to the video," said Chris Wentzel, a civilian who used soldiers' footage he found online to make a clip for Drowning Pool's "Bodies." "If music wasn't used in the videos it would kind of take away from the video as far as emotion."
After Davis screened a clip that uses Korn's "Dead Bodies Everywhere," he knew exactly what the filmmaker was going for.
"It's a video of them killing people, so there's going to be dead bodies everywhere, which totally gives it a new meaning," Davis said of the song, which he wrote about working at a coroner's office before Korn formed. "I remember working at the funeral home, and you had to [inject humor] or you would have gone crazy from all the death being around you. And I think this is a way for them to do that, where they get their laptops and get their camera, 'Oh, check out my video.' It's like a way for them to deal with what they're doing. 'Cause they're killing people, man — I don't care who you are or what it is, it's still killing people and it's still got to be taxing on your mind."
And for that reason, Davis is supportive of the viral videos, even though they are made without permission from the bands and are therefore technically illegal.
"I don't know what the record company is going to say about that, but what's it hurting?" Davis said. "It's reality. People hear stuff from me all the time, they don't get to see that; they just see the powder-coated stuff. But if you really saw what's going on over there, you could see something different."
