Metal Injection has posted a video clip online of Summer Slaughter bands discussing the future of extreme metal, which can be viewed below. Metal Injection also commented:
"We asked bands on the 2011 Summer Slaughter festival what they think the future of extreme music will be. Some of the answers will surprise you. See how members of The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Darkest Hour, Dying Fetus, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Oceano, As Blood Runs Black, and Within the Ruins respond. More SS clips coming soon."
Metalinjection.net asked bands on the 2011 Summer Slaughter festival to talk about the best part of the tour. Check out the clip below to see how members of The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Darkest Hour, Dying Fetus, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Oceano, As Blood Runs Black, and Within the Ruins responded.
The House of Blues once again had issues with their guest list coming in too late. And of course that meant that I missed the first three acts and therefore have absolutely nothing to say about Within the Ruins, Fleshgod Apocalypse or As Blood Runs Black. Despite me giving an otherwise positive review to the new Fleshgod Apocalypse album, I had to wait in the front foyer while they played.
Thankfully, I was able to get into the venue by the time that Oceano began playing. Even though I hate ripping on hometown bands, Adam Warren sounded like he was choking on something throughout the entire set. Outside of their vocalist sounding hoarse the entire time, there was nothing remarkable about Oceano. They're yet another generic deathcore band that does nothing to stand out. I seriously can’t tell the difference between them and about twenty other deathcore bands that I've heard.
After Oceano finished playing, I was thankfully treated to Powerglove, a video game music cover band. I'll be the first guy to admit that I'm a complete and utter nerd and I've been a gamer since the Sega Genesis, so I naturally loved this band. And given that there is a TON of video game music that needs a metal remix, I'm hoping to see Powerglove have a long and prosperous career. (They still need to cover Grabbag from Duke Nukem 3D.)
And even for non-gamers out there, Powerglove put on a VERY good show. Between having a contest to bring the band the head of a stuffed animal and tossing blow-up swords into the audience, they were clearly one of the best band's there in terms of sheer theatricality. I'm really looking forward to seeing this band do a longer set in the future. More...
American metal outfit Darkest Hour has posted their new music video online for the song, "Love As A Weapon," which appears on the group's most recent studio album, "The Human Romance." You can check it out below. The video was shot overlooking the band's hometown of Washington D.C and was directed by Scott Hansen. More...
Metal Blade Records and Slave Pit Inc. are once again teaming up to put on the wildest party of this or any other summer…the 2011 GWAR B-Q is on for September 17th at Hadad's Water Park, featuring two full stages of rock before the final, climactic performance from the mighty GWAR. And this will be no ordinary GWAR set (if such a thing could exist…) as original GWAR bass player Mike Bishop (the first Beefcake the Mighty) will join the band for a very special set of songs from the "Scumdogs" era, before turning over the stage to the latest incarnation of the universes most dangerous band!.
"After slacking off for easily four or five minutes, the slaves of GWAR are back at it, laboring ceaselessly to satisfy our muddied desire and provide you with the sick shit you crave," said crass uber-thing Oderus Urungus. "Everyone is ordered to attend the GWAR B-Q and pay homage to their undead overlords of necrotic filth, US, the mighty GWAR, and maybe even join us for a yummy grilled baby-ass."
In addition to all the great music, there will be BBQ cook-offs, the return of The Spew-O-Lympic's and American A-hole competitions, a jousting exhibition from the Cutthroats Bike Gang, a Bloody T-Shirt contest and of course, all the fun that Hadad's Lake offers. Tickets are available here.
Washington, D.C.'s Darkest Hour has released an entirely instrumental version of the band's latest record "The Human Romance" via iTunes. Guitarist Mike Schleibaum commented on the release:
"Attention geeks, shredders, stem junkies and Karaoke fanatics. We're very stoked to offer you the instrumental version of The Human Romance. Feel free to download away and enjoy. If you haven't had a chance to pick up the record then by all means start with the version that has our very own John Henry singing on it. After all it ain't the DH with out the JH. These instrumentals will take you on one hell of an epic sonic journey so pick em both up, learn these words and scream your ass off with us at the shows!"

Darkest Hour has just wrapped up the video shoot for "Love As A Weapon," which is off the band's latest release "The Human Romance." Directed by Scott Hansern, the video takes on a very traditional performance approach to metal videos.
Guitarist Mike Schleibaum comments, "Filming the video with producer Scott Hansen was totally bad ass! Filming on a rooftop above our hometown of Washington, DC, with hail and lightning storms in the distance made for an epic filming experience. The final product will include us performing coupled with time lapsed montages of both majestic and disgusting footage. The contrast of these will surely make for a sick piece of metal videography."
The band has also announced its participation in this year's Summer Slaughter tour. Darkest Hour will be supporting The Black Dahlia Murder and Whitechapel alongside Six Feet Under and Dying Fetus. The dates are as follows: More...

American metalcore act Darkest Hour has announced that it will cancelling its appearance at the forthcoming "New England Metal and Hardcore Festival." The band provided the following statement;
"We regret to announce that we must cancel this years appearance at the New England Metal Fest. It has become a bit of a tradition for us, so many great bands, it will be a bad ass party, for real. But it is with the same breath that we congratulate Mike and his family on the birth of a new baby girl. She came a bit early to the party but baby and mom are doing fine. Worcester is a metal ass town and we will make it up to you all soon! We will see you in the pit this summer with Black Dahlia and the traveling circus that is Summer Slaughter, until then, cheers to new life!"

Lee McKinney (guitars) states: “The European run was a blast. We met some amazing people, not only in the bands we toured with and met for the first time (Protest The Hero, Purified in Blood), but also the fans that came to see us. It was also great being over there with Darkest Hour. We've known those guys for a long time, so it was almost like a vacation with friends. Being our second time in Europe, we got to witness first hand how our fan base overseas grew, and thats always awesome to see.
“Now we get to hit the U.S. again with Darkest Hour on the Atticus Tour! This should be a blast. We are releasing our new CD on this tour and are now going to be playing a good amount of new material live. We haven't toured the states in a few months, so we are excited to head back out with new material and see how it goes.
