Darkest Hour, after recently completing a North American tour supporting Killswitch Engage, wasted no time getting back to work. Upon returning home, the band immediately headed to Oceanic Studios to record with producer Taylor Larson.
Michael Schleibaum (guitars) states: “When John Henry (vocals) and I started the band some 18 years ago we could have never imagined the sound would travel this far. The making of this record (dating back to January of 2012) was both a painful and joyful one and the end result has become something truly transcendent. John’s work with Taylor on the new demos has proven to be the best he's ever sounded and the introduction of the creative minds of both Travis Orbin (drums) and Aaron Deal (bass) have taken the songwriting someplace otherworldly. You can expect a massive evolution. The Killswitch tour couldn't have come at a better time for us creatively. It gave us the time and space to think about the album as a whole and really craft something special." More...
Darkest Hour has signed a worldwide deal with Sumerian Records and is hard at work on the band's much anticipated new full-length album.
Darkest Hour states: "To say that Sumerian Records and label owner Ash Avildsen are big supporters of this band would be a huge understatement. We have been proud to call Ash our friend since our early years and this friendship has flourished greatly since then via our relationship with his sister company, The Pantheon Booking Agency.
"When you start a band you dream that one day you can do what you love with great friends and family around you. Now it all seems to have come full circle. With the good people at Outerloop Management, Sumerian Records and the Pantheon Agency we finally feel right at home. Every aspect of the group is being handled by long-time trusted friends and is in reliable hands. This safe haven has given us the shelter we need to put together a life-changing new album. More...
Roadrunner Records group Killswitch Engage is currently traversing the country on the “Disarm The Descent Tour,” accompanied by special guests Miss May I, Darkest Hour, The Word Alive and Affiance.
The tour lineup was originally to include As I Lay Dying, but the band dropped off the tour after front man Tim Lambesis was arrested for allegedly trying to hire a hit man to kill his wife.
In celebration of the U.S. headline run Jesse Leach, front man of Killswitch Engage, will participate in a live YouTube chat today, Tuesday June 11th at 1:00PM ET. For the live chat Jesse will be joined by his tour mates: Levi Benton of Miss May I, John Henry of Darkest Hour, Telle Smith of The Word Alive, and Dennis Tvrdik of Affiance.
Killswitch Engage will be posting a link to the live chat on the band's official Facebook page once it is live at 1:00PM ET. Fans will then be able to join in on the live Q&A with all four vocalists and can leave questions for them in the comments section of the video post.
After Tim Lambesis was arrested for allegedly attempting to hire an undercover officer to murder his wife, the fate of the upcoming As I Lay Dying/Killswitch Engage tour was up in the air. As I Lay Dying has now issued the following announcement about officially canceling the run:
"In light of recent events, As I Lay Dying will unfortunately not be taking part in the upcoming tour with Killswitch Engage.
"Given the circumstances, we feel that it is best for the band to be off the road while the current situation gets sorted. We'd like to thank all of our fans for their ongoing support at this difficult time.
"-Jordan, Nick, Phil, and Josh."
Lambesis' bail was set at $3 million and he currently remains in custody. Further details on the case and footage from his arraignment can be found at this location.
Killswitch Engage will however be continuing on with the trek, bringing on different supporting groups. The band comments:
"Since As I Lay Dying has announced they will not be able to join us on this tour...we would like to welcome Darkest Hour, and The Word Alive on the Disarm the Descent 2013 U.S. TOUR! Please welcome both bands with open arms, ROCK!"

Today in the U.S. we celebrate Memorial Day, which honors the men and women in our armed services and those who have given their lives to protect us. Metal bands across the U.S. have been commenting on the holiday, and here you can see a variety of statements posted online from different groups.
To all our veterans, young and old, and to all actively deployed U.S. troops, thank you so much for the sacrifices made on our behalf both for this generation, those before us, and the ones yet to come. Enjoy your freedoms today and time with friends and family, for that freedom came at an unimaginable cost. So, once again, thank you Vets!!! We honor you all today and give you our support and appreciation.
We appreciated and respect EVERY Veteran every where, go thank a Veteran today.
We at Castle Dischordia would like to thank the brave men and women (and their families) who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Thank you.
Scythe Of Dante
For all the soldiers that fought and died for both you and I, We salute you.
Take time today to remember those who sacrifice for country and cause. Remember those who do the hard work of the armed forces when they're tired, when their family lives are taxed, and when things look darkest. Thank you all.More...

The line-up was picked perfectly for this tour, from the bands abilities to bring unique heavy metal and modern hybrid influences to a big audience and worked the crowd. As Machine Head’s older fans and Darkest Hour and Suicide Silence’s younger fans filed in, some still excited from nearby Mardi Gras parades, the generations mixed, mingled, sized each other up, and eventually socialized as they waited to see two great bands opening for one of metal’s best known bands ever. September 29, 2007. The date of Machine Head’s gig at Montreal’s late and lamented Le Medley, holding the distinction of the most claustrophobic and brutally violent metal show I’ve ever attended. Now a few years older and wiser – and with a job to do – I had little intention of getting physical on February 4, 2012, but what this date of “The Eighth Plague” tour would surely lack in danger to my person, I expected it to make up enormously in scale, scope, and overall grandeur. Kristen Randall (Winds of Plague)

Machine Head was the first show that I actually bothered to pay money for since seeing Behemoth two years ago. “Unto the Locust” is an amazing album and I've never seen Machine Head headline a show. I caught them opening when they were touring with Metallica back in 2009 and they impressed me enough to get me to buy a shirt. Naturally, I was upset to see that they weren’t headlining for another two years and I wasn’t going to pass up this great opportunity. More...
