Sydney technical death metal band Dred has announced that they've changed their name and will now be known as Ouroboros. Here's what the band had to say about the name change:
"After much thought and preparation we have decided to change the band name. It was a unanimous decision that we needed a more powerful and meaningful title that more suitably reflects what we are about and better fits our musical and lyrical themes.
"From here on forward DRED will be known as OUROBOROS.
"Our new MySpace page is already up and running and a new merch line is due shortly and the designs can already be viewed on this new page - www.myspace.com/ouroborosmetal
"The current DRED MySpace will remain active for quite some time to come in order to help inform the fans of the name change. Our upcoming full length will be released under our new name.
"Let us stress that despite the name change, the bands line up, the music and our goals remain the same."
The band's next gig will be on the Sydney leg of the "Unleashing The Extreme" tour, featuring Psycroptic, The Amenta and Ruins. The gig takes place at The Manning Bar on June 20th, 2009.
Japanese thrash metal band, Argument Soul, will be embarking on an Australian tour during May. Argument Soul will be in Australia promoting their latest CD LP, "Conflict of Crisis."
Argument Soul will be playing with Australian metal/rock heavy weights, Dreadnaught on the Melbourne show. Dreadnaught are on the verge of a releasing their latest self-titled CD LP, which will be available in stores during May.
The Sydney show will be with progressive metallers Vanishing Point, Pain Division, Dred, Inslain and Sedition.

The winners of the Summer Slaughter Battle of the Bands events that were held accross Australia on Friday night have been posted online by promoter Soundworks Touring. The competition was held to determine the opening support act at each of the five national shows.
