Hell Posts New Album Track-By-Track Breakdown

Guitarist Kevin Bower of reactivated British heavy metal outfit Hell has posted a track-by-track breakdown of the band's new album "Human Remains." You can check out the breakdown below, or find Hell's video clip for "On Earth As It Is In Hell" at this location.

1 OVERTURE: THEMES FROM 'DEATHSQUAD': This began life as a rocking instrumental which originally appeared as the B-side of HELL's self-financed and now extremely rare 1983 7" vinyl single – subsequently bootlegged, but with the original now selling for absolutely ludicrous money on Ebay. For the introduction to this album, Kev Bower has taken some of the principal themes and orchestrated them in full-on Wagner 'Sturm und Drang' style using digitally-sampled orchestra and choir.

2 ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HELL: The intro section to this song is strangely notable for having been written by Tony Speakman whilst he was sat playing his bass on the toilet (bog metal?) with the remainder consisting of typically 'agent provocateur' religion-questioning lyrics over slabs of furious riffing. Live performances of this would always see Dave donning a full vicar's garb complete with the band’s now-infamous pyrotechnic exploding bible. This caused outrage amongst the local clergy at the time - it was literally front-page headline stuff in the local papers…

Hell Posts New Music Video Online

Reactivated British heavy metal outfit Hell has posted a new music video online for the song "On Earth As It Is In Hell." You can check it out below. The song will appear on the band's forthcoming new studio album, "Human Remains," which will be released through Nuclear Blast Records on May 13th. Speaking about the video, Hell guitarist Andy Sneap (also known for his work with Sabbat as well as being one of the most well known metal record producers) stated:

"The video we shot at Wingfield Manor in Derbyshire, UK. It’s literally 5 miles from where I live and the band used the same location in the video for ‘Deathsquad’ that they shot in 1983. Director Kristian Havard - who used to be in the band Xentrix – is a friend from when Sabbat used to tour with them in the late ‘80s, so I called in a few favors.

"The band always were theatrical and out there image-wise. The great thing about Hell is we don’t feel pigeon-holed into any category: we just do what we want. We are not looking at what’s going on around us music-wise playing catch up or following the latest trends. Personally, I think it’s very rare that a concept comes across well on music video, so it was really out of ease to do a live performance. After all, this is really to introduce people to Hell." Hell To Release New Album "Human Remains"

U.K. metal act Hell is set to release "Human Remains" on May 13th, 2011 through Nuclear Blast Records. The record label issued the following statement about the band:

"Cited as a huge indirect influence, and as one of the true founding fathers of occult metal, the band formed in 1982 from the carcasses of UK metal bands Race Against Time and Parelex, whose ‘White Lightning’ EP was listed by Metallica as a favourite, and which was subsequently included on the Lars Ulrich, Geoff Barton ‘NWOBHM ’79 Revisited’ sampler album.

"Despite over five years of constant touring, the band were cruelly overlooked by the ’80’s music press, who just didn’t get it. Hell were too different, too extreme, too musically intelligent and far too thought-provoking for all but the most enlightened to understand them. The final crushing blow came when their long-awaited 1986 album deal with Mausoleum collapsed as the label went bankrupt, followed by the tragic suicide of singer/guitarist, Dave Halliday in 1987. The remaining members drew a line in the sand and stopped playing overnight.

"A teenage Andy Sneap was a permanent fixture on the front row of almost every show Hell played and was also taught to play guitar by Halliday. He then went on to form Sabbat and become a renowned metal producer. Upon meeting again, the remaining members of Hell - Kev Bower (guitar/keys), Tony Speakman (bass) and Tim Bowler (drums) talked with Andy about re-recording the old material to release in conjunction with the old demos. With Sneap replacing Halliday on guitar and David Bower on vocals, the band has recorded 10 Hell classics from the 80’s."

Hell Cancels Keep It True XII Festival Appearance

The organizers of Germany's Keep It True XII Festival have issued the following update about Hell canceling their appearance:

"It is with great regret that HELL (UK) have been forced to cancel their appearance at KIT 12. Kev Bower, the band's guitarist and synthesizer player, was today informed that he must have immediate abdominal (stomach) surgery to treat a problem which will become very dangerous if not treated straight away, and his surgeon has warned him that an 8-10 week recovery period is the minimum required after this. Since Kev performs such a complex 2-part role within the band, finding a replacement is impossible given the close proximity of the show. HELL's first European appearance had generated great interest amongst metal fans - to the extent that some die-hards were actually traveling from the USA to see the show. This decision has been extremely sad, and HELL would like to offer their sincere apologies to all who were looking forward to seeing them. Our great thanks go to Oliver and all involved with KIT for inviting us - HELL very much hopes to see everyone at another KIT, another time....."
