Latest Vehemence News
Below is our complete Vehemence news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Following an entire decade without a new album, the Phoenix-based melodic death metal kingpins from Vehemence return to full-time duty in 2015, having reactivated the band and completed their fourth full-length studio full-length.
New album "Forward Without Motion" is now set for release on October 27th, 2015 via Battleground Records. The label comments:
"Their first new album since 2004's Metal Blade Records-released 'Helping The World To See,' Vehemence returns to the death metal fold with a stunning new album that will surely see the band regaining their traction within the scene after their time off the grid. 'Forward Without Motion' is the culmination of years of hard work and the collective desire to write the best songs and capture the best performances."
Guitarist and founding member Bjorn Dannov perhaps says it most succinctly when describing the record, "I really believe this is our strongest album to date. With our previous albums, we were so inexperienced in the studio so I was never really happy with the final product, production-wise. This album I feel represents the songs well. We wanted to capture a tight performance, but not overly produced and sound replaced like a lot of modern metal albums. We still wanted to maintain an organic element to the sound, which I believe we achieved."
Working on the songs off and on for several years between 2007 and 2011, Vehemence began a methodical, painstaking tracking process for "Forward Without Motion" between 2012 and 2014, the album's guitars, bass, and vocals being recorded at the home studios of Dannov and guitarist Kyle Moeller, with the drums being recorded at Villain Studios in Phoenix.
"Kyle did all the mixing, reamping, and mastering," says Dannov. "It was really great to have those tools at our disposal, without having to worry about a budget or studio expenses."
Vocalist Nathan Gearhart also remarks: "The lyrics of 'Forward Without Motion' each tell a unique story dealing with pain, loss, sadness, and horror. Written over the course of twelve years, each piece stands alone in subject. The consistent theme of the lyrics as a whole denote humanity's dark side, and summarize our lives and impact on our world during our limited time. Nothing changes. Nothing gets better or worse. It's all the same. It's time without a number. We are all going to die leaving this world just as fucked as those before us, and future generations will continue this cycle."
Following its crushingly triumphant debut maiden occurrence last year, the second Tucson, Arizona-based Southwest Terror Fest 2013: Year Of The Snake has been confirmed and the full lineup for the massive gala announced.
The complete lineup can be found below, and the following press release was issued about the festival:
"This fully DIY undertaking, booked by musicians, for musicians, is a low-cost event for all ages. Once again organized and hosted by Tucson sludgetroopers Godhunter, the now annual Southwest Terror Fest brings a one-of-a-kind extreme underground music festival to the Southwestern quadrant of America.
"This year, the experience has been expanded into an immense four-day event, now confirmed to invade Tucson venue The Rock from Thursday, October, 10th through Sunday, October 13th. The Southwest Terror Fest 2013: Year Of The Snake lineup features even more national headlining acts than last year, including legends like Sacred Reich and Vehemence, along with Kylesa, Red Fang, Demon Lung, Ancestors, Subrosa, Landmine Marathon, Early Graves and others, and a long line of newer underground acts, totaling more than sixty bands! Whether you like punk, sludge, black metal, thrash, grindcore, post-metal, etc., something for all fans of extreme music is to be found at this event."
Los Angeles metal band ABYSMAL DAWN recently wrapped up the recording and mixing process to their new album and follow up to 2008's "Programmed to Consume."
"We've been working on and off in the studio on this album since May and now we're finally done," commented ABYSMAL DAWN guitarist/vocalist Charles Elliott. "After a series of set backs, illness, and going through a world of shit in our personal lives, we had no choice but to make this record our revenge and the defining moment for ABYSMAL DAWN. We've had the finished mixes for about a week now and everyone that has heard it has been just blown away. We can already tell that this will be the record that the band will become known for. It's a very varied, extreme, technical, and melodic record and I can promise you that no one will be disappointed."
The yet-untitled album’s drum parts were recorded at Trench Studios in Corona , CA with John Haddad (PHOBIA, INTRONAUT, HIRAX). The majority of the sessions were produced and recorded by Mike Bear (ARTISAN, ex-PROTOTYPE), at Artisan Road Studios in Encino, CA and the CD was mixed and mastered by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, GOATWHORE, HATE ETERNAL) at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL. An early 2011 release date is expected.
Upcoming ABYSMAL DAWN tour dates are as follows:

Vehemence, who broke up in October, have decided to get back together following their "reunion" show this past weekend. The group has released the following statement:
"Well, we had our 'reunion' show last night, and it went over extremely well. Thanks to all that showed up. Nathan (vocals) also announced on stage that we are back together, and working on new material. This is true, however Vehemence is coming back on our own terms, without any label pressures. We will be doing very little touring if any, since we are pretty tied into our lives here in Phoenix. We also have other projects going on...
Mark, Andy, and Bjorn are currently working on a new band with Connor Woods (ex-Abigail Williams vocalist) and KC Bradham (guitar, ex-Brides of Chirst) - myspace.com/thesymmetryinchaos
Nathan also has his other project in the vein of extremely brutal death metal - myspace.com/hewhobindshimself
and John's band that will soon take over the world - myspace.com/cursedinblack
So to whoever gives a shit, thanks for supporting Vehemence. We hope to get some new tunes up for you to check out soon."
Fomer VEHEMENCE guitarist John Chavez is looking for Phoenix, Arizona-based musicians to join his new project, dubbed CURSED IN BLACK.
Commented Chavez: "The material will be ranging from all heavy spectrums of metal, death, black, punk, and thrash. It may seem like a VEHEMENCE continuation of sound and vibe, but not completely. This will be a unique band that will leave you headbanging! There will be displays of melodic aggression, skilled solos, experimental creativity, and will carry a wide vocal range diversity. I'm expecting to officially release a demo by March 2006 and tour non-stop after. Most importantly, I am looking to secure the lineup.
"I'm looking for extraordinary dedicated musicians that can contribute to CURSED IN BLACK's sound with immense creativity. The MySpace page has info on what this band is looking for.
"The writing process began shortly after the VEHEMENCE break-up. Some riffs have been carried on over from what was supposed to be new VEHEMENCE as well.
"I’d like to thank those who have came forward already about this member search, and I am already looking into several people as permanent additions to the lineup. Hope to get some response from some quality people. Also, the band needs a band logo, so please send submissions to email@example.com or the myspace account.
"Thanks to everyone that supported VEHEMENCE and to those that said they would have faith that this new band will be spectacular and support this one as well."
VEHEMENCE guitarists John Chavez and Bjorn Dannov have issued separate statements regarding the band's decision to go their separate ways via the group's official message board. Their statements read as follows:
John Chavez: "Yah, guys, it is true. I tried hard to persuade the guys to keep it together, but they felt this was the best time to throw in the towel and move on to the next chapter. I started to feel it too after what was said and presented.
"Basically, the overall vibe of VEHEMENCE was decreasing. The songs were good, and I think the whole thing with Sean Vandegrift not producing lyrics for six months, and not moving down to Phoenix, had something to do with the frustration and tension within the band leading to its demise. It would have been an awesome new VEHEMENCE record — a lot of twists and turns in the music, most diverse record ever. With replacing Nathan Gearhart — founder of VEHEMENCE, and creator of the name — it would be a different kind of presence; it would also be far from the lyrics/stories with another guy writing for us. We didn't really give Adam Cody a chance to write a whole lot either maybe a couple weeks and the stuff he came up with was pretty awesome stuff to say the least. Some bands just overwrite their old singers and move on with a new vibe and new era, but that wasn't the case with us, unfortunately. More...
Arizona-based death metallers VEHEMENCE have posted the following message on the band's official website:
"8 years after it all started, we decided that now is the time to throw in the towel. It was fun, and we would like to thank all the people who have supported us along the way. VEHEMENCE was and is a huge part of our lives, but at this point its time to start fresh. The death of Vehemence has since spawned 3 new bands from its ex members. ABIGAIL WILLIAMS featuring Mark, Andy and Bjorn of VEHEMENCE (www.myspace.com/abigailwilliams), HE WHO BINDS HIMSELF featuring Nathan (www.myspace.com/hewhobindshimself), and as John stated “I'm looking for members for a new band and I am also available for touring. Currently I'm also affiliated with several other side projects which I will release soon.”
We still have a batch of new shirts coming this year, as well as a new remixed version of our first self released disc entitled The Thoughts From Which I Hide, that will be available exclusively at www.vehemence.com. VEHEMENCE may do shows every now and then, but will not be a full time band. Just keep checking our website as that will still be up and running."
Vehemence has announced that they will no longer be working with former From A Second Story Window vocalist, Sean Vandegrift, who was originally recruited by the band in January. According to the group, "We wish him the best of luck." Vehemence has now added Glass Casket vocalist Adam COdy to their line-up. COdy filled in for the band this past spring during the band's tour with The Red Death and Crematorium and is currently "working on lyrics and demoing some of [Vehemence's] new material."
Vehemence are currently writing their next album for Metal Blade Records. According to the band, "We've been hard at work writing new songs for our next album! It has definitely gotten more technical, and we are really excited to show the world the new Vehemence. We are still working on getting Sean Vandegrift (our new vocalist) out of Ohio... He has an apartment lease which is keeping him there, but we are trying everything we can to get him out of his lease." The group intends to write roughly thirteen songs and has tentative plans to record the album late this year with James Murphy (of Death noteriety) in Florida. Meanwhile, the band has one more show remaining with original vocalist Nathan Gearhart. The performance will take place on September 10th at Metal Devastation 2 in Phoenix, AZ.
Vehemence are out with the video to their new single 'We Are All Dying'. You can watch it online at Yahoo! Music.
New vocalist Sean Vandegrift will be unable to accompany Vehemence on their upcoming spring tours, so the group has recruited two temporary replacements. Bryan Edwards of Clifton will be performing with the band during their tour with Thine Eyes Bleed from March 21th through April 5th, while Glass Casket's Adam Cody will be touring with the group from April 8th through May 21st on their tour with Crematorium and The Red Death (except on April 23rd).
Crematorium, The Red Death, and Vehemence will be touring together in April and May. More dates will be announced, but the following have been confirmed:

Vehemence have now found a replacement for Nathan Gearhart, who recently left the band. Interestingly, the group has added Sean Vandegrift to their lineup. As you may recall, Vandegrift quit From A Second Story Window late last year. The band states that "We are excited as to what he will bring to Vehemence, and what the future holds in store." Vandegrift will make his debut with the group during their upcoming tour with Crematorium, The Red Death, and Losa, which kicks off in April.
Arizona-based death metallers Vehemence have parted ways with longtime vocalist/lyricist Nathan Gearhart due to "family obligations," according to a press release. "[Nathan] will be missed, but at the same time we are excited to have some new blood in the band," the group said in a statement.
"We are currently looking for someone who will be fully committed to shows, practices, and tours and must have great stage presence. We DO NOT want a Nathan clone, and would prefer someone who can bring something new to our sound. No matter what 'scene' you are from, if you are an extreme metal vocalist, get in touch! The goal is to expand, and reach a wider audience with our new vocalist so if you are interested, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and visit our website at Vehemence.com for new news and updates."
Vehemence's third studio album, "Helping The World To See", is available now through Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2002's "God Was Created" was produced by Will Solares and Vehemence at Open Primary Productions/DBD Studios in Maricopa, Arizona. Mixing duties were handled by Will Solares. Artwork was conceived by Wes Benscoter.
Arizona-based death metallers Vehemence have posted a live video for their track "By Your Bedside" at this location (Windows Media). Due to circumstances beyond their control, Arizona-based melodic death metallers Vehemence were unable to play their previously announced Toronto show at Club Rockit on Wednesday, October 27. "Big disappointment for us, as this is our second Toronto show we were unable to play," the band said in a statement. "Last time our vocalist Nathan got really sick on tour and we had to cancel our remaining dates. This time is more about the politics, lack of extra fee notice, and how fucking hard Canada makes it to get into their country to just play a show. We are extremely sorry to any fans we might have let down. 'Till next time. We will tour in Canada in due time. This is by far the best tour we have been on. Cheers to all in Mortician, Akercocke, and all the opening acts that we performed with."

Vehemence guitarist John Chavez has provided this update:
As of right now we just got back from Vegas and the show was a mess. None of the bands got paid and attendance included 15 people. The promoter didn't know what was going on, the stage of half built when we showed up, and fucked the bands out of the cost of us to get there. We canceled our appearance in Tijuana, Mexico due to finances at this point in the tour, and not having contracts or payment to play it. We will be back there soon, its only 7 hours away from Phoenix, so hang in there all that wanted to see us. We will begin touring again in California all the way up finishing this tour in Canada; I will give another lengthy update when this tour is over. Thanks to all and see us at the shows, support your scene or it won't support you. Also visit our secondary website on the ever popular myspace.com networking website. If you want on our guest list for any of our shows, just message us on there.
Vehemence will film their second music video in New York Sept 14, and 15th with TRL/MTV director Elliot Phear (also worked with Simple Plan and Steve-o from Jackass) for the song called "We Are All Dying," from the sophomore album release "Helping The World To See."
