Meshuggah and Nuclear Blast have made the following announcement via Facebook about the title of the band's upcoming album:
"Meshuggah have chosen KOLOSS as the title to their eighth studio album, set for North American release on March 27th and European release on March 23rd via Nuclear Blast Records.
"Drummer Tomas Haake has issued the following warning: 'As always, we try to take our music in a slightly different direction with each album and with KOLOSS we feel that we really nailed what we were going for. Organic brutality, viscera and groove all crammed into a 54-minute metalicious treat, best avoided by the faint of heart!!'"
Back in 2005, Dimmu Borgir was a band still basking in the unholy success of its latest outing “Death Cult Armageddon.” And yet instead of launching into a new opus for fans to consume the band members decided on a new approach; they would re-release an early and often praised album (“Stormblåst”) by completely re-recording it, updating the sound with modern production and slap “MMV” on the end. There had of course been prior examples of bands making this choice, but it was perhaps here that best truly crystallized the new era of metal re-recordings. No doubt you have heard of similar re-recordings in the same vein, perhaps most recently Gorgoroth’s “Under the Sign of Hell 2011” or Burzum’s “From the Depths of Darkness”? Perhaps not, but that’s what I aim to uncover for you here. More...
Swedish metal band Meshuggah has completed work on the band's seventh studio release. The album, the title of which has not been confirmed, will be released on March 27, 2012 through Nuclear Blast Records. The album will mark the much anticipated follow up to the 2008 release "ObZen."
In a statement to the world, the band commented: "After a long time of deep soul searching and intense wrecking of the psyches, the new album is finally done. Soon you will meet this colossus that will pulverize your being. Welcome to the other side on March 27."
Prosthetic Records has issued the following announcement about Animals As Leaders embarking on a European tour:
"Animals as Leaders will head back to Europe in April/May for their first headlining tour on that side of the Atlantic. As you may remember, the last time the progstrumetal titans were there, they supported deftones on several dates and Between the Buried and Me on an entire tour. Not bad, right?
"You can check out their headline dates down below. You may notice there's a gap in there, AND that they're not playing in the UK, and you're thinking, 'Well, that's weird,' right? Well, they're going to be supporting the legendary Meshuggah there!"

That most metal of holidays is almost upon us again, but you may want something more than candy corn and blood colored cocktails to get you in the Halloween spirit this weekend. Earlier this month we covered the most over the top horror themed clips as well as videos that focus on the demonic and the diabolic, but that still leaves a good deal of ground to cover. For today’s edition of metal videos to get you in the Halloween mood we’ll take a look at the creepy, the atmospheric, and the disturbing.
Marilyn Manson – “This is Halloween”
While his metal cred is definitely questionable, Marilyn Manson does have the Halloween image down pat. Check out the quintessential “This is Halloween” clip below, set to scenes from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Although it wasn't expected until December, the organizers of Australia's Soundwave Festival have made their second band announcement. Joining the 60 bands already announced are Staind, Wednesday 13, Unearth, Cathedral, Shadows Fall, Heaven Shall Burn, Your Demise, Kittie, and 14 other (mostly non-metal) bands.
Hole has pulled out of the festival after frontwoman Courtney Love refused to play before Limp Bizkit. Soundwave boss AJ Maddah said on Twitter that he was "relieved we got the moody old cow off the bill. [There’s] no point talking her back, only for her to cancel later, or turn up & act like a rotten twat to other artists, fans, etc."
A third announcement in early December will add another five bands to the lineup, and Danzig is one of the confirmed possibilities. More...
