Soil Part Ways With Guitarist Shaun Glass

Chicago-based metal band SOIL has amicably parted ways with guitarist Shaun Glass due to "personal differences." The band will not seek a replacement guitarist but will remain a four-piece, with vocalist AJ Cavalier filling in on some of the guitar duties.

SOIL is completing the songwriting process for its forthcoming album and will enter the studio in early 2008.

SOIL's latest CD, "True Self", was released in May 2006 via DRT Entertainment. The follow-up to 2004's "Redefine" was recorded and mixed at Bomb Shelter studios in Los Angeles, California with producer Ulrich Wild (STATIC-X, TAPROOT).

Following his departure from SOIL, Shaun will focus all his efforts on DIRGE, the new extreme metal project which he formed with THE DOOMSDAY SOCIAL drummer James Knight (ex-THE BLANK THEORY, CHACOPA) and A TEXAS FUNERAL vocalist Jermz.

According to Shaun, who previously played bass in the 1990s death metal act BROKEN HOPE, DIRGE's musical direction is "total fucking extreme metal in a very modern thrash style."

SOiL has pretty much been in hibernation writing for a new album since we got home from 13 months of touring in mid-June! We are excited to say that we are about 3/4 of the way finished with the writing process and will be heading back into the studio in early 2008! The new songs are sounding awesome and we can't wait to get them out for everyone to hear!

All that being said, look for new SOiL tour dates around mid-08."

"Well, we're pretty much done touring after 13 months for [the latest SOIL album] 'True Self'. We have now begun writing for the new SOIL album and it feels fucking great, so all you junkies will have to wait a bit to see us live. Like you aint seen enough of us already the last two years, HAHA! But yes, we're glad to be creating music again, and all I can say, judging from the music we have already, this shit is gonna ROCK!!!"

Soil Refuses To Play At Site Of Dimebag's Death

SOiL has refused to play the October 26th date in Columbus, OH of the MUSHROOMHEAD/SOiL tour at the Al Rosa Villa club. The band cites the murder of the legendary Dimebag Darrel that occured at the club in December 2005. "We find it in bad taste that the club is even still standing" says guitarist Shaun Glass. "I would be sick to my stomach to just walk into that place." Bassist Tim King continues "Maybe other bands can play the club and not be bothered by what happened in there, but as close as we were with Dime and the DAMAGEPLAN camp, we would be unable to get on that stage without breaking down. We hope our fans will understand and respect our decision."
