Vocalist and visual artist Karyn Crisis today reveals further details of her newest musical project, Gospel of the Witches.
Gospel of the Witches features Karyn Crisis' vocals and mystical lyrics, over music composed by Ephel Duath mastermind Davide Tiso. With Tiso playing all guitars and bass, the lineup is completed by Danny Walker of Intronaut on drums, and Ross Dolan of Immolation on vocals. In addition to the core lineup, the album will contain a guest appearance by Mike Hill, frontman of Tombs.
A 13-song album is currently in the pre-production stages. Tracking begins in June with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) at The Basement Recording NC.
Karyn Crisis speaks about Gospel of the Witches: "The album is a bold statement and an epic, unabashedly emotional work of devotion to the ultimate expression of the power of the fires of transformation: The Witch. Davide has a haunting ability to generate undeniably emotional landscapes with his guitar, and these songs twist and turn into darkness and then transmute into heartbreaking beauty and light. As a testament to Ancient Ways and the union of opposites, I explore the feminine power in my voice on this album and couple it with Ross' intensely masculine vocal power to create a consistent theme of thickly layered vocal choruses. Danny will round out these 13 dark mantras with thunderous drums. Take the tendrils of my unstoppable voice into the Great Mysteries... or run for the hills."
A Kickstarter page has been set up to raise money for the recording, mixing, mastering, and manufacturing costs. Check it out and see all the available rewards for contributing at this location.
Karyn Crisis (Ephel Duath) has launched a crowd funding campaign for releasing her new solo album under the name Gospel of the Witches. Ephel Duath's Davide Tiso, who also appears on the project, has issued the following statement:
"Plotting, composing and putting together Karyn Crisis's solo project Gospel of the Witches spanned a five years period that literally changed our personal and musical lives. During this time we saw this album grow in different exciting directions and many shapes, we finished putting dozens of different dresses on it.
"One thing never changed: its soul. This album has its own peculiar and demanding will and it revealed itself to us little by little, riff after riff. Lately, after a bursting phase of musical inspiration that lasted a few months the 13 songs that we are about to record were nailed. Today it is with great excitement that we reveal to you some details about this very special piece of work.
"At the Kickstarter page here, Karyn has few things to say to you. What I feel to add is that I'm proud and blown away by what we accomplished: these songs show Karyn Crisis at her very best. There are not so many artists quite like her, let's support and celebrate together Karyn Crisis' new wonderful adventure."
Davide of Italian metal band Ephel Duath has been working on the Karyn Crisis debut solo album and has given some hints concerning future work with Esposito Fornasari (Somma, Transgender, Ashes, Pascolare Menti, Allevare Pensieri) and more Ephel Duath albums. In reference to the Karyn Crisis album, he states that he's "super happy for what is coming out. The songs are so rich of many different moods, colors, killer mid tempos and heavy attacks," and that "There's groove. So much groove." "I had the chance to work in studio also with Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari, [an] amazing singer and talented programmer. It has been simply great. I hope there will be the chance to collaborate in [the] future." "Another important news, I'm assembling a home recording studio. This is so exciting I'm barely able to put it in words! I'm sure I'll be working day and night non-stop for at least the first year. I love so much to be in studio, I can't believe to finally have one in front of my bed. I'm already collecting ideas for another Ephel Duath album; there [are] new collaborations and projects in the air too."
Davide has provided some studio pictures with Esposito at this blog post.
