German symphonic metal act Xandria announced the departure of vocalist Manuela Kraller from the band. Kraller took over for departing vocalist Lisa Middlehauve in 2009 and sang on the latest LP "Neverworld's Dream" (see review here). According to the vocalist, her reasons for departure were to follow a different musical path.
The announcement reads: "Hello everyone! Probably to a big surprise for everyone in here, we are announcing Dianne van Giersbergen to be our new lead singer! Dianne, 28 years old and from the Netherlands, might be known to many from her Dutch band Ex Libris.
"At the same time, Dianne's arrival means the departure of Manuela Kraller, who regrettably decided to continue a different musical path. Certainly, that was a big shock to all of us hearing Manu say she wanted to try other things. With major regrets we had to let her go. Not an easy task to deal with, whilst the goal was untouchable: To continue the musical journey we had taken with "Neverworld's End". But: We are very happy to have found THE new voice and face in Xandria who will continue this fantastic ride, our last album "Neverworld's End" had taken us to. And we are yet to sail way, way further with Dianne now!
"Manuela thanks all fans and us in a personal statement: 'After three years with the boys in Xandria, I decided to follow a different path and go my own musical way.' Manuela leaves with regret but also full of gratitude, thanking Xandria and fans for the time together and being grateful for the 'wonderful moments in mutual tours and shows.' She is 'wishing Dianne and band all the very best for the future!.'
"Last weekend's shows in Leipzig, Germany and in Pratteln (Switzerland) at the 'Masters of Symphonic Metal' Festival have been the last concerts for Manu performing together with Xandria. We will certainly miss Manuela! We are also thankful for the magical time we shared and wish her all the best for the future! More...
German symphonic metal act Xandria has just hit studio this past week to start recording the long awaited successor of their critically acclaimed album "Neverworld's End" (see review here).
The yet to be titled new album is the sixth studio album in the band's career. The release date of the longplayer is yet to be announced, supposedly sometime in the first quarter of 2014 via Napalm Records More...
Internationally respected, domestically loved, and locally interesting (“Look at all these black-shirted people walking into this Einstein Bagel Co!”), the ProgPower USA festival returned to its frequent home at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend for its fourteenth year of bringing quality metal to the stateside masses.
Through the hallowed gates (err… glass and metal doors) of the venue, almost anything was possible on the days of September 5-7. To some, it was an ocean of opportunity or a place to be reborn in metal. To others, a place to spend endless nights with the masters of the world themselves. To most of the 1,000+ attendees, it was where they went to reach within, feel alive, and leave with a sense of pride -- nobody was wondering “Why am I here?,” even if it was only the 1st chapter of their ProgPower story. (For this writer, the festival was also a chance to write 9 song/album titles from the bands that would be performing at the show into this second paragraph about the show. Because it sounded really cool.)
As previously detailed, the festival brought 5 bands to the states for the first time and 16 in total throughout the three days, with an extra 2 added to that in a separate Wednesday show. When I had arrived on Friday, the ProgPower elite who had come both days prior to it were feeling quite at ease and even had a sort of comfortable glow about them. I later learned that this was due in part to warm hangovers, but mostly due the awesomeness of the concerts on the days leading up to Friday, which were written about in part by Metal Underground admin CROMCarl. This, however, is the record of my time at this year's crazy heavy wonderland. More...
In its 14th year for 2013, the ProgPower USA Festival is one of the longest-running US festivals, and the longest-running US multi-day festival to feature bands from outside the US.
This year, it has the special distinction of being the US debut show for five bands. Totaling more than a hundred and twenty band performances in its time, it has developed a reputation as a tastemakers’ festival, heightening awareness within the US of foreign bands.
It can be a daunting festival, price- and endurance-wise, but it’s one that should be considered if the genres it derives its name from at all turn your head. Here’s what you can expect from this year’s celebration of the fast and the nerdy down at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia, starting on September 4th. More...

Kamelot will be joined by German symphonic metallers Xandria, Norways's own powerful progressive heavy metal band Triosphere, and from Montreal Canada, the melodic death metallers Blackguard will complete the package.
Blackguard recently toured with Kamelot on the 2011 Pandemonium Tour in North America and have proved to be a great addition to the billing. After announcing the departure of bassist Nils Middehauve, German symphonic metal band Xandria are reaching out to find his replacement. The open ad for the job reads as follows:
"This is your chance to apply for the job:
"If you think you are the perfect match and of course can play your instrument very well, please send an email with all relevant info, pictures of you, sound samples, links to Youtube clips with you playing etc. - basically whatever you have - to firstname.lastname@example.org Deadline is August 31st!"
German act Xandria has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's bassist:
"We sadly have to announce the departure of our yearlong bass guitar player Nils Middelhauve today. It was mainly due to personal reasons why Nils took the decision to split ways in the future. It gradually became obvious to him that some points of view vastly grew apart, concluding in Nils’ determination to not continue in Xandria anymore. Especially since all members are friends first and foremost, any more compromises had been even more hurtful. The band regrets Nils’ decision, yet is respecting it at the same time, even though everyone is really sad about it.
"Us, the remaining members in Xandria, are still a bit shocked and paralyzed and we can hardly imagine to continue without our yearlong fellow. We went through so many good and rough times together – Nils always gave everything for the band and we all have to be very grateful for his work! Nils – we will never forget the times we had together and we wish you all the best for the future! Thanx for everything!
"At this stage no replacement has been determined. We will carefully look for an adequate successor. Nils kindly will play any show confirmed so far, if no replacement will be found by the time of these very shows."
Xandria has issued the following announcement about the band's bass player having to sit out upcoming live shows:
"Bad luck for our bass guitar player Nils. Whilst we were playing the most recent shows w/Epica, Nils severely hurt his right forefinger on stage which eventually led to a serious blood poisoning after the last show.
"Due to this sepsis he had to undergo surgery twice in the course of the past week, which will now disable him to tour for the upcoming 4-6 weeks. Nils surely is extremely disappointed to not hit the road again in April, but feels comfortable in knowing there is a well-known substitute: Xandria's European tour w/Epica and Stream of Passion in April will now be played with Serenity's Fabio d'Amore, who is happy to fill in on bass guitar for the tour.
"So, no worries, we won't miss a single show. Please come out and support Fabio on his spontaneous new endeavor and wish Nils all the best for a return very soon!"
