Latest Burnt By The Sun News
Below is our complete Burnt By The Sun news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Richmond thrash-core kings Municipal Waste have finished work on their debut album for Earache. Entitled 'Hazardous Mutation', The Waste's new album was recorded in the band's hometown of Richmond, Virginia, by Corey Smoot (aka Flattus of Gwar). 'We are very excited about this record and we feel its by far our best material to date,' states frontman Tony Foresta.
'Hazardous Mutation' features the debut of new drummer Dave Witte (Burnt By The Sun, Discordance Axis), and is highly recommended for fans of 'crossover', particularly old DRI. (Also recommended for fans of beer bongs, Ocean Pacific couture, and wizards.) 'Hazardous Mutation' features cover art by the one and only master of all thrash artwork, Ed Repka, best known for his work for Megadeth.
'Hazardous Mutation' hits US stores Sept 20 (Aug 29 in the UK/Europe). In the meantime, you can check out an advance mp3 here and look out for The Waste on tour -- they're currently wrapping up an East Coast US tour with Coliseum but they'll be hitting the road again and again in 05 to spread the 'Mutation' across the globe.
Burnt By The Sun have now begun looking for a new vocalist. As such the band has posted four vocal-less MP3s online for interested candidates to sing along to. The tracks can be downloaded here:

Former Burnt By The Sun, Human Remains, etc. drummer Dave Witte will be quite busy in 2005, as he continues to be involved in a handful of projects. For starters, Witte will be on the road with Municipal Waste in late-February and early-March. Witte will also be playing on Melt Banana's next tour of the U.S., which will run from April to June. Moreover, Agoraphobic Nosebleed tentatively have plans to make an appearance or two this year, and Witte will be on the drums for those. On the release front, he recently joined a new band called Hex Machine. The group played their first show on January 10th and will record a demo in the near future. Meanwhile, Black Army Jacket's discography will be released in the very near future by Black Box Recordings. Finally, the next East West Blast Test album, tentatively entitled "Unpopular Music For Popular People," should be available this spring through Ipecac Recordings.
Burnt By The Sun have lined up two shows in Iceland later this month. Aaron of The End will be filling in on vocals.

Drummer Dave Witte, who recently left Burnt By The Sun, has now joined Municipal Waste, the Richmond thrash/metal band that signed with Earache Records earlier this year. Here's what Witte had to say about the move:
"I am an ultra whirlwind holocaust attack, stoked to join The Waste. It's a thrill to be a part of a band that is fun. Expect some serious thrashin' action."
Now that drummer Dave Witte has freed up his schedule by quitting Burnt By The Sun, he and Agoraphobic Nosebleed will finally have an opportunity to collaborate, something they've discussed off and on for several years. In fact, Witte and ANb guitarist Scott Hull have practiced together before, but nothing more. According to Relapse Records though, Witte will apparently be joining the Agoraphobic Nosebleed roster in the near future, particularly for the purpose of live shows.
The future of Burnt By The Sun is in doubt as frontman Mike Olender and drummer Dave Witte have now left the group. Remaining members Teddy Patterson and John Adubato may or may not continue under the same name. Here's what Mike Olender said about the split:
"The decision was amicable and there are no ill feelings between any of us. This core line-up was really exciting, satisfying, and rewarding for me to take part in and I'm honored to have shared the last 4 years with Dave, Ted, and John. We wrote music that we loved and tried to convey a message that made people think."
Olender will do a few more shows with For The Love Of, before focusing on his website The O Report. Witte will continue on with various other projects. Adubato and his wife are expecting another child in November.
UPDATE: Teddy writes on the band's site:
Things are looking up at Camp BBTS today. Johnny & I are talking about future plans, they are not as bleak as they seemed last week, we'll keep this a secret for a while...
