Clutch Announce Australian Tour Dates

Maryland-based metallers CLUTCH have announced a string of Australian live dates. A press release follows:

"The mighty Clutch are back ….
It took them ten years to make the trip down under, the first tour in 2006 sold out, they fell in love with Australia and returned in May 2007 for a national tour to launch their new LP From Beale Street to Oblivion, the whole tour sold out. In December 2007, Maryland’s favorite sons will return to headline the Meredith Music Festival and play two special shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

An Evening with Clutch is a Gear Heads ultimate fantasy. Beginning with a set from the jazz filled side project of Clutch members sans Neil Fallon, THE BAKERTON GROUP, who will be familiar to any true blue Clutch fan, and moving to two sets from Clutch, for a night of Clutch…Clutch…and well…more Clutch.

Since leaving our shores, the bands have recorded a new track, King Of Arizona, for Jackass regular Bam Margera’s Viva La Bands compilation album, and made their first appearance alongside The Police and Tool at the 2007 Bonnaroo Festival.

Clutch will arrive in Australia fresh of the back of a mammoth American tour with New York prog rockers Coheed and Cambria. Neil, Tim, Dan, JP and Mick will be once again packing harmonica extraordinaire Eric Oblander into the road cases …ready to serve up an early Christmas present for Aussie Clutch fans."

An Evening With Clutch - Opening set by The Bakerton Group dates:

13 - The Hi Fi - Melbourne, Australia

The Hidden Hand Announce Tour Dates

THE HIDDEN HAND, the band featuring hard rock guitar legend Scott "Wino" Weinrich (ST. VITUS, THE OBSESSED, SPIRIT CARAVAN), has scheduled the following dates:

Aug. 30 - The Ottobar - Baltimore, MD (w/ CHOWDER, FILTHY ROTTEN SEX MACHINE)
Aug. 31 - Bowery Ballroom (Royal Flush Release Party) - New York, NY (w/ CLUTCH, BEATALLICA)
Sep. 01 - The Brighton Bar - Long Branch, NJ (w/ SOLACE, BLACK IRISH, JOHN WILKES BOOTH)

THE HIDDEN HAND's latest full-length release, "The Resurrection of Whiskey Foote", came out in February. The CD is the third THE HIDDEN HAND full-length (second from Southern Lord) and features the lineup that recorded the now sold-out/out-of-print "Devoid of Color" EP from last year: Scott "Wino" Weinrich (guitars, vocals), Bruce Falkinburg (bass) and Evan Tanner (drums).

"The Resurrection of Whiskey Foote" is not necessarily a concept album but it is heavily layered with historical story-based lyricism and themse. Musically there is a subtle southern or classic rock vibe (ala killer slide playing from Wino and even some harp by Michael Anthony Miller) that creeps into the foundation of their brand of dark, heavy, progressive rock.

Clutch Part Ways With DRT Entertainment

CLUTCH frontman Neil Fallon has revealed to ChartAttack.com that the band has parted ways with DRT Entertainment and is currently without a record label. Fallon refers to the band as "free agents," but seeing that CLUTCH have gone down the major label road before (1998's "The Elephant Riders" appeared on Columbia and 2001's "Pure Rock Fury" was released on Atlantic), don't expect them to do it again.

"Their business models are so antiquated," Fallon said. "It would make sense if we were a platinum band, but we're not even pushing gold records.

"We make our money selling T-shirts on the road. We'll do whatever makes the most sense. That doesn't necessarily mean the biggest check, it just means the most honest business relationship."

Regarding the nu metal label that has been previously applied to the group, Fallon said, "I think maybe it's some lazy rock journalism. We've played with some of those bands, so maybe they drew that association.

"Our philosophy is that we'll play with anybody anywhere anytime, and not snub our noses because they don't meet some kind of aesthetic, but I never understood that [label]. We've also been compared to Helmet when we started out, and then later on stoner rock, or what have you. People are compelled to put labels on things for marketing reasons or for writing reasons, and sometimes people do a good job of it and more often than not they do a lazy job of it."

CKY Drummer Reveals Side Projects

MTV.com reports that CKY drummer Jess Margera has revealed he's been keeping busy working on various side projects and lending his talents to other bands' work. He recorded all the drum tracks on Viking Skull's upcoming Chapter II LP and has formed a band called Partners in Crime with CKY guitarist Chad Ginsburg and Guy Heller of Moistboyz.

But the band he's most excited about — after CKY, that is — hasn't even been assigned a name yet. It features Fireball Ministry's Jim Rota and Clutch main man Neil Fallon.

"I was on a flight back from Germany, and I was looking at my iPod, and I looked at my top 10 list or whatever, and it was just like Clutch, Puny Human, Fireball Ministry, Led Zeppelin," he said. "So I called everybody but Led Zeppelin, for obvious reasons, because I was recording in my home studio. I just invited them all up to my house, and we worked on two or three songs. That turned into five songs, then eight, 10, and now we have 12 songs."

Margera said the Fallon-fronted act sounds like equal parts CKY, Clutch and Fireball Ministry, and had its first practice last month, following his pro-skateboarder brother Bam Margera's wedding to Melissa Rothstein. While the group does intend to release an album, he's not sure when that will be, given that the bands' hectic schedules will make tracking the LP difficult.

"It's like my supergroup, man," he enthused. "It's just cool as hell, and I'm psyched about it."
