Jamie Hooper, Sunny Dhak and Bob Froese originally got together to do a one-off reunion gig for an old group of theirs - however, things went so well they decided to continue under a new moniker. A five-track demo of the new band, now dubbed 3 Inches of Blood after a particularly gruesome dream of Froese's, found its way over to the house of Hot Hot Heat keyboardist Steve Bays. Bays' friend, death metal vocalist Cam Pipes, was impressed with 3 Inches' old school sound, which sounds like the shrieking vocal assault of Rob Halford, the epic guitars and storytelling of Iron Maiden, the pirate theme of Running Wild, and the lasting influence of the British New Wave of Heavy Metal.

Although the group had little distribution for the record, they did share the same U.K. label as The Darkness, who at the time were on their way to becoming the UK's latest rock sensation. When 3 Inches went overseas, they hooked up with The Darkness for a UK tour. The tour was a smash success. Due to this bubbling under at the press level, Roadrunner Records took notice of the group's demo, and signed the band in 2004.

3 Inches began work on "Advance and Vanquish," determined to make it a "classic" metal album. Musically, the band has expanded on their classic metal roots, developing into one of the tightest hard rock bands of modern times.

3 Inches Of Blood Gearing Up For Tour

3 Inches of Blood is gearing up for a tour as direct support for Eluveitie, but before that gets started the band will be making a quick pit stop into Shostroud Productions in Vancouver to record new cuts with Sho Murray (City of Fire) and Byron Stroud (Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory). One of the songs will be played live on the upcoming tour and will be making its way online soon. The band comments:

"It's a great time for us to be touring North America again. We haven't slugged it out in the US since Mayhem fest in summer 2010 and we're always happy to play to our loyal Canadian brethren. Everyone in the 3IOB camp have been eagerly anticipating this tour. We've never toured with a band like Eluveitie before. Their fan base is probably more similar to ours than most other bands we've toured with in the past. The Holy Grail guys are always fun to hang out with and we're curious to check out System Divide. We're extra pumped for this tour because it will give us the opportunity to road-test a new song or two. Hope everyone digs the new jams."

The upcoming 3 Inches of Blood tour dates are as follows:

1/26 Boise, ID @ Neurolux
1/28 Lincoln, NE @ Bourbon Theatre
1/29 Columbia, MO @ Mojo's

3 Inches Of Blood Comments On Upcoming Tour

Cam Pipes from 3 Inches Of Blood shared his thoughts on the band's upcoming tour with Eluveitie:

"This is gonna be an interesting tour for us. We’re used to being on tours with metalcore/screamo bands and we stick out like a sore thumb. This tour, I think we’ll share more musical similarities with the other bands and therefore will be playing to a more like-minded crowd. At the same time, each band brings something unique to the tour. I’m predicting all the bands will get along famously. This should be a treat for our fans too ‘cause they’ll be seeing us with styles of bands that we aren’t mached up with too often!"

Eluveitie also commented:

"Thank you Cam Pipes, and we agree: This is going to be a blast. We’d like to add for anyone thinking the package is a little weird: If you’ve ever seen any of the bands live imagine that energy times four and you know what to expect on this tour and why it fits just right." More...

Holy Grail Comments On Tour With Eluveitie

Vocalist Luna of Holy Grail has issued the following statement about the band's upcoming tour with Eluveitie and 3 Inches of Blood:

"We’re really excited to tour with Eluveitie and 3 Inches Of Blood, our last tours with both these bands were a complete blast and we really hit it off well! It’s like touring with family. Can’t wait to hit the road! This package is perfect, we have a great balance of melodic heavy metal bands with brutal riffs and wild live energy across the board! I’m also looking forward to check out System Divide!"

Eluveitie also added: "We ourselves can add that we had a great time with the guys of Holy Grail on our last run together with Amon Amarth and we are looking forward to this one! On another note we have received questions about the lack of VIP-Tickets for this tour, as they seem to be very popular these days. The answer to this is simple: We checked out offerings of other tours, we have considered it, and we have decided that you can get most of it on any Eluveitie show already but we do not think that we should be charging you money for it. Fan contact has always been (and will always be) a big part of what we are and as always we will be hanging out after the show to chat, take pictures, get drunk (occasionally..), and sign whatever the hell you would like to have signed.

"In fact free posters and autograph cards will be available at the merch booth this time (while stocks last of course). And since we’re traveling in a big ass tour bus it’s really not that hard to find us if you feel the urge to say hi during the day! So while we will probably offer 200$-plus tickets just like anybody else if we ever become a stadium band all you need to do for now is to keep your eyes open, and don't be shy."

3IOB And Alexisonfire Team Up For A Secret Show

Its quite amazing how in the span of just one hour you can go from sitting in a friend’s basement drinking beers to being one of the lucky few in attendance at an exclusive "secret show." My Friday evening on November 27th certainly wasn't planned to go in that direction, but as soon as the text message was received proclaiming that 3 Inches of Blood and Alexisonfire would be performing a secret show under different names in a small, 300 person venue, myself and a few friends were rushed out the door and began our frantic journey into downtown Vancouver, which would transform into one of the best concert memories in my lifetime. Sound eerily similar to the movie "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist?" I hope not. More...

3 Inches Of Blood Posts New Music Video

3 Inches of Blood has teamed back up with director Rick Podd (The Watcher, Hellraiser), who previously shot the “Battles and Brotherhood” video, to shoot a new clip for the track “Silent Killer.” The video has been banned by MTV for its bloody content, so the clip is now available through Bloody Disgusting, and can be viewed below.

Shane Clark (guitars) states: “The concept of the song is about an assassin, so naturally we first thought of a concept featuring an assassin going around doing what they do, but in a style that is more influenced by movies that we liked. At first we thought about a simple performance style video but we've done that a few times and this seemed like a much more entertaining thing for us and our fans. Therefore, we brainstormed a bunch of ideas with Rick Podd and thought of our own killing scenes. I wanted to get poisoned and puke blood and vomit all over the place, and after that it was all in the hands of Rick.

"I really had a good time with the acting stuff; it was great to work with Chris Valago as well. Some know him as the Heathen from Zimmer's Hole, he's the big FX banana in the Vancouver TV & Film industry, more importantly he's a good friend of mine so we got to sit and plan out the puking at great length, I'm really happy with how that turned out. As for the entire final product, I'm very happy with it, having everyone work together on something and have it turn out great is really satisfying.” More...
