Woe Comments On Upcoming Album

Candlelight Records has announced October 12th as the North American release date for "Quietly, Undramatically," the new album from black metal act Woe. Recorded at Gradwell House in Haddon Heights, New Jersey with additional tracking completed at front man Chris Grigg's BS1 in Philadelphia, the album is the first to feature a full band ensemble comprised of members from Absu, Woods of Ypres, The Green Evening Requiem, Infernal Stronghold, and Rumpelstiltskin Grinder.

Formed in 2007, Woe originally began as a solo project of Philadelphia-based multi-instrumentalist Chris Grigg. Grigg commented, “Quietly, Undramatically is a major step forward for Woe. Not only is it our first release for Candlelight Records but the debut of Woe: the band as opposed to Woe: the solo project. The performances of Evan Madden (drums) and Shane Madden (bass) bring Woe to a whole new level. It is a much more mature album, featuring dynamics and ideas that Woe has never been able to tackle before. We are all very excited for this album's release and the subsequent live performances in support of it!"

The album reunites the band with designer/illustrator Justin Miller. "Justin and I have worked together on different projects for years now and he has never let me down. I consider his art an additional song on the album -- the most important song, the one that ties it all together. Sound is what I do, sight is what he does, and it is a relief to know that Woe's presentation is handled with such feeling." More...

Pay What You Want to Download Woe's Debut Album

Chris Grigg, vocalist of Philadelphia black metallers WOE, has released the following statement regarding the new "pay what you will" option on their website for WOE's debut album, "A Spell for the Death of Man:"

"Woe is not a marketing scheme or career path. It is not something we do to get famous, get girls, get friends, get sponsorships, or look cool. (A good thing, too, since it has not and cannot do any of those things!) The amount of time, energy, and personal money poured into this project for no reason other than passion for the art is staggering and, as time goes on, will continue and increase. Below, a dollar amount of your choice can be entered and, when the process is complete, you will start the download of a zip file (approx 102MB) containing the complete 'A Spell for the Death of Man' album in MP3 (320kbps) format along with the CD insert and lyrics. It is DRM-free so you can do with it as you please." More...

Fest organizers comment: "This fest is going to be a hell of a time (with) a slew of badass Richmond bands and sick as hell out of town bands! This is the first time a fest like this has happened in RVA to my knowledge. One of our biggest goals with this beast of a fest is to keep it DIY. We want to do it yearly and I'm hoping you can all help it grow. If you come and show your support for your friends, the music, the bands, winter, whatever... I'm considering everyone involved in the first year to be the OG's of the fest!"
